    I loved living in Uptown! Tons of live music venues, a HUGE beach with paddleboarding & birdwatching, diverse community, awesome food options

      I lived in Uptown when it was very sketchy. It's much nicer now. But nowadays there's no place to park. I was doing shows at a theater (now closed) on Broadway and sometimes I had to circle for 1/2 hour before I found a spot, especially if there was something going on at the Aragon. Plus, they started making all the side streets permit only. I quit doing shows there for that reason.

      EXACTLY. The entire city is living up to its nickname from the 1980s: Beirut on the Lake.

    I grew up in Evanston and have lived in the Chicago area for 50+ years. You forgot my favorite neighborhood where I lived for 16 years - Edgewater! I could write several paragraphs here, so I will leave it to your viewers to PLEASE explore this amazing area within walking distance of Loyola University, the Lake, awesome public transportation, diverse population and restaurants.

    I have never lived on the South Side, but I've been to areas like Archer Heights and Garfield Ridge. They have some hidden gems. My own neighborhood, Belmont Gardens, is sandwiched in between Avondale, Old Irving, Belmont Cragin and Logan Square. It's not well known, but that's no surprise. We have no cool retail, the most likely food choices are taquerias or fast food (although there are two nice breakfast places within walking distance) and most of the homes are very modest bungalows, nothing fancy. But don't misunderstand me, we *love* our bungalows and many of us have gotten them certified historic by the Bungalow Association. Our best asset is the neighbors. It's a very stable area, with many families having been here for 15+ years. We look out for each other and when one of us needs help, multiple neighbors are right there, ready to pitch in. One North Side neighborhood that seems to also be underrated is Albany Park. It has it all: diversity, great food, amazing green space (Ronan Park and River Park) and very walkable. Thanks for posting this very nice video!

    Rogers Park is transit rich close to the lake with easy EXPRESS access to downtown Chicago and Evanston. Loyola AND northwestern sandwich the neighborhood It is ridiculously undervalued.

    Avondale. Hermosa. Portage Park. Belmont Cragin. All great and underrated Northwest side neighborhoods. Don’t think Uptown is necessarily underrated just a bit sketchy still. People are cautious. Can’t blame them. Old Irving has actually been on the radar for many but might be getting a bit too late to buy some real estate as the prices have been skyrocketing the past few years for its proximity to Lakeview. Good picks though.

    • @alexzais1935
      @alexzais1935 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RobertSpiller Hey Robert. Bronzeville is actually on the borderline between semi-safe and semi-not safe. Not the worst place in the city but crime is definitely present. It’s located on the Southside of the city so shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. I’ll tell you one thing though. It’s recently rumored to be gentrifying with wealthy middle class and upper middle class black individuals just like the neighboring area of Hyde Park already is and has been. Also where Obama lived for several years as he was a professor at the University of Chicago there. If I’m correct, a lot of the wealthy black population from Hyde Park are leaving and settling in Bronzeville for the cheaper estate and rent. If you’re thinking about jumping ship from Detroit I would do so rather sooner than later before an all out mass gentrification happens and the costs start skyrocketing in Bronzeville too.

    I'm a second-generation Chicagoan who grew up on the Southside and moved to Uptown a year ago. LOVE the neighborhood right on the lake beaches, in between Andersonville and Boystown, and full of culture. I'm Puerto Rican, but I still wouldn't live in Humboldt Park as it gets better and worse at the same time.

    People overlook Rogers Park because it sucks, in addition to being too far north. Uptown also sucks. These neighborhoods are high crime, the worst two neighborhoods on the north side. Uptown also has the misfortune of bein overrun with homeless crazy people, yet still expensive. Easily one of worst deals in the city.
