It's kind of funny to consider that this entire time, and in all of the battle city finals for that matter, rowan is standing a few feet away from the absolute insanity going on in front of him and just standing there waiting for someone to violate an official rule.
Merricks version the original "Great beast of the sky, please hear my cry! Transform thy self from orb of light and bring me victory in this fight! Well I gotta say the English dubbed version is a lot better when summoning the Winged dragon of Ra by doing the ancient chant it’s a lot better than the subbed version
Atems version the shortened one “Almighty protector of the sun sky, I beg of thee please heed my cry. Transform thyself from orb of light and bring me victory in this fight. I beseech thee grace our humble game but first I shall call out thy name, WINGED DRAGON OF RA.”
My version, a mix of the two "Almighty god of the sun and sky I beg thee please heed my cry, transform thy self from orb of light and bring me victory in this fight, envelope this battle with thy glow and cast thy godly rage upon my foe, unlock thy power from deep within so that together we may win, I beseech thee, appear in this game but first I shall call upon thy name.. For Mai, I wouldn't say he was "so" close. A lot of people take his use of Mai's inability to read the text on Ra's card as proof he's a weak duellist but to me it's the opposite, I see it as a testament of his strategic skills, exploiting supposed advantages gained by his opponents to get the upper hand.
You see to me, Marik isn't playing the same game as everyone else. The only time he took a duel seriously was against Yugi, and you can see just how different he plays between his duel with Yugi compared to Joey, Mai, and Bakura. He wasn't dueling them, he was tormenting them, his every action and play was designed to make them suffer in accordance to the shadow game they were playing. I lot of people really think Joey could've beaten Marik in straight duel, but if they _weren't_ playing a Shadow Duel, Marik would never have let Joey keep so many monsters on the field, because he went several turns not even attacking just so he could torture Joey's monsters, as any pain they felt was also inflicted onto Joey as well. The mentality absolutely matters and Marik is obviously a much more skilled duelist than people give him credit for, and they deny that credit simply because they're still salty about Joey not claiming his win, which he honestly didn't deserve under the game they were playing. They weren't dueling, they were playing a game of torment and whoever lasted the longest would win, that was condition of the game, and Joey legitimately lost it, sure in Duel Monsters he won, but again that just wasn't what they were playing, in the end Marik's higher pain tolerance is what won him the game, but it very much nearly cost him everything, which is why his next Shadow Duel was constructed to avoid any penalties being inflicted on him. Had Yami not switched the two Mariks and went the normal way of beating him, then the real Marik would be dead while his dark half now had full control over his body. Yami Marik learned his lesson and it ironically backfired on him simply because he didn't expect the maneuver Yugi played.
@@leoncoben6983 Joey's duel against Marik wasn't meant to win. It was meant to show the cast up to that point that this seemingly invincible mastermind who manipulated everything until now was merely mortal. Joey made Marik sweat at the end, and though Marik won that bit of doubt Marik had showed everyone that the once calm and collected Marik Ishtar can, in fact, be vulnerable. It wasn't a duel Joey was meant to win. It was meant to show the Pharoah that Marik isn't invincible, and that he can be defeated.
If I were watching this duel I’d get a camera out(cause it’s like the late 90s at the time of dm) and record him saying the chant so I wouldn’t have to bother translating it.

I like how it's not the same as the true chant used by Atem.
Yes, each chants represent their personalities. Though I'm not sure with the Japanese version 😁

So its known as the hieratic chant in, I believe they were using Japanese romaji backwards if I remember right.
This speech was one of my favourite moments in all of the seasons. So much power and reverberated menace in this scene.

He doesn't get paid enough to care about people being assaulted, tortured, or killed in front of him.

Mariks English voice is one thing that the dub did so well.
I thought Atem’s and Kaiba’s voices were on point too

Marik was insane but i really liked his deck and skills (even though he was so close to lose by Mai Valentine and later Joey Wheeler).
In the manga, Mai barely did any damage to him.

Life was better back then 😂. Simpler time watching Saturday morning Cartoons
Dartz: Ok but what the hell are you doing in my place man?
He's ending Season 4

Plot twist: the voice actor isn’t being filtered.

Why is the background, Dartz's HQ.......That's from the Atlantis season lol.
there's been 3 different chants for Ra one used by Marik Atem and some schmuck who stole a copy of Ra from Pegasus (which is the wrong chant)
Why is Marik standing in front of Dartz's snake thing
He’s a boss that’s why
Because Marik > Dartz
I love it how 4kidstv explain card effect by voice actors lol
Correct me if I'm wrong but can this even be called a chant? I always thought Chance were not only repetitive but also rhythmic in a sense

The filter bugged me.
Marik vs Dartz?
I remember how fure this was as a kud was so badass.
What is truly great about this, despite being a ruthless scumbag bad guy, Yami Marik still has the sense to beg Ra for help
Who says the chat better him or Atem?
