For the comments saying "ginagawa lang nila ang trabaho nila" being RUDE is not part of their job. :) They should improve it and siguro mag travel rin mga IO natin kahit sa SEA countries lng para makita nila yung level ng COURTESY sa mga IO nila. We can do better or hire better IO officers.

Walang manners mga government officials jan sa Pinas..I’m sorry pero totoo and sad. They don’t know how to treat people with respect, taas ng tingin nila sa sarili nila. Annoying and disappointing. Vanessa shouldn’t have gone through that traumatic experience. You didn’t deserve to be treated that way. I know they’re only doing their job but they should be respectful towards the travellers.

It happened worse to my sister. She was 50 years old then. I bought a ticket for her to visit me in one of the countries in South east Asia where I migrated. She was denied travel by the immigration so she just went home and never tried to visit me since then. It’s so unjustifiable that a 50 year old is not allowed to go on holiday. Horrible immigration officers.

Happened to us when I brought our kasambahay/yaya back to Thailand with us (from PH). She got pulled out, they took away her boarding pass, sent her to the interview room (so many people waiting there). We spared 3 hrs before flight time and this happened and we almost missed our flight! My baby was also crying so hard that yaya was missing and was in the interview room. They gave the reason that it was her "First time travelling aboard" and suspected for employment there :( duhh.. after a long wait I have to show the immi staff our photos together and everything. They also made me sign a document confirming that I will be sponsoring her financially during the trip and that I will bring her back to the Philippines. It was so damn annoying and I didn't expect this will happen at all. I mean.. why would you stop your people from travelling out of the country??? as long as they can afford it and have proper documents. It should be the responsibility of the destination country whether to let them in the country or send them back.

@@paulacarissakintanar2304 Hi Paul! We didn't prepare any documents rather than our ticket/returning ticket (and passport) cuz we didn't know at that time that there is such thing like what PH immi is doing. They mainly focused on asking about how long she has been living with us/working for us, her work experience etc., (in my case she has been a kasambahay in my partner's family for 13 years) and then the BI interviewed me (employer). I got asked same question, how long she's been with us etc., (they just wanna make sure she's not lying I guess). I was also asked to show our photos together from my phone. Then I was asked to sign a document saying that I'll be supporting her financially through out the trip and will bring her back to the Philippines. Before letting us go the BI also told me that everything I signed is binding and that I will have to bring her back... hope this helps!

The Immigration Office of the Philippines should be with the modern times. People regardless of status, as long as you can afford can travel. We are a little over a day away from 2023, and we should be accommodating to people who are travelling. Filipinos shouldn’t be too strict and too doubtful to fellow Filipinos. We need to trust our Kababayan.

It's inconvenient and quite a hassle to be questioned by immigration officers, but this has a purpose: IOs are tasked to screen possible human trafficking victims. And in the Philippines, the most frequent victims of human trafficking are single Filipino women. These victims' common excuse is they are traveling with family (who are really human traffickers). Many Filipino women are also duped by foreign scammers/boyfriends who book everything, but who intend to turn Filipino women into trafficking victims. The IOs' almost cruel/harsh line of questioning is a necessary evil. Thousands of Filipino women who are potential human trafficking victims have been saved by IOs.

I have the same experience back 2019. I was to return to New Zealand and at the time I had an Open-Work Permit which was explained to me by POLO-New Zealand that I do not require an OEC since I was not sponsored by any company in New Zealand. I presented my visa and company certificate and insurances that pretty much covers everything or anything to happen to me abroad. Pinabalik balik ako sa desk ng POEA hanggang sa sumama na sakin yung nasa desk just to tell IO na hindi ko kailangan yung document na hinahanap nila. Walang modo and arogante yung IO na nag assist sakin. Kaya nakakawalang gana umuwi dahil ang hassle.

Hi, sorry to hear about the immigration hassle that you went through. That happened to me 2x couple years back. I was questioned, pulled to the side and been interrogated. It wasn't my first time to travel and in fact, I had an education visa. I had to call on someone I knew abroad to attest that I have been going in and out of the country for educational purposes. I hope our government leaders will pay attention to this kind of complaints because I felt like I was a criminal being questioned. I've read IO stories from everywhere na rin and based on some stories, usually mainit daw mata ng IOs sa mga traveller na babae, lalo pag by pair or nasa group (kasi baka involved sa human trafficking, maga-apply pala ng work, etc.) Yakap!

Tinanong lang kun saan ako pupunta tapos ano gagawin then that was it tatak then pasok na. Same goes the 2nd time I went out of the country, bilis lang din walang daming tanong tatal agad. But I have a colleague back then and her story tumatak talaga sa isip ko kasi na offload siya. I'm blessed because the young immigration officer was respectful but that was a horrible experienced. It's just I have middle east flagged issue way back 2009 that they said why I extended my vacation for another 3mths? And that was a Flagged issue. Finally, after asking additional documents to ensure that I will return home then they stamped my passport.

Singapore immigration also does this but usually for those entering their country nman as tourists. But they also sometimes question their citizens when they leave for travel although sa Singapore kasi if their citizens are travelling to other countries bago pa mag travel they are required to apply online sa govt website nila and furnished the necessary docs to get approval especially males they need to secure a permit too to their National Defense. Not all, but random passengers are also questioned at their IO.

I’m sorry you went through that. I also experienced that. Dami hiningi…but I changed my language from tagalog to english and showed several communication exchanges regarding my leave with my boss dun lang ako pinalampas….Then on different occasion, when I got the chance to join in a Christian grp who volunteered to help some filipinos in the embassy’s safe house I learned that there are alot of illegal filipino workers who had been victims of abused. Then I wished that the government should have been stricter to filipinas going out of the country to ensure their safety. I realized that the IOs are asking for so many docs and capability to travel to avoid such scenarios. But the IOs should have manners and explain why they are are asking such questions if they think the traveler does not understand…So the next time I traveled with my nieces, i told them to answer in english and maintain eyecontact with the IO and answer confidently. Lusot agad 😁 tho marami rin hinanap na docs like hotel booking, etc. (Just sharing)…So both sides lng kailangan mag-unawaan cguro.

Yung permit to travel irerequire ng mga airlines for booking the tickets.

Immigration in Philippines is really terrible. I also experienced it the 3rd time I went to Taiwan for vacation. (I love Taiwan btw). They asked some very nonsense questions like why do I have to go Taiwan if there’s a nice place to spend for vacation in Philippines. (like wtf, I was cursing inside at that time but have to answered them professionally because i’m afraid they might reject my entry) But seriously, very insane. But then, we can’t blame the immigration. Because there are really so many Filipinos that are TNT or working abroad without following proper procedures so immigrations don’t have a choice but to get more strict. But I don’t think their solutions are very effective 😅 because Filipinos will really find a way to cross to other country and find job illegally if desperate

Some people might think irrelevant yung hinahanap na documents. But i think, theres a reason for their questions.
All expense paid daw.
PERO, SAME DAY, dumating yung nag bigay ng tour, may pinakilalang dalawang bata.

It wasn’t my first time traveling, all my documents are complete. I’m a business owner and since I have been reading a lot about “IO horror stories” have completed all the documents even printed it just to be sure. I have travelled with my boyfriend who’s also my business partner, pero since nauna ako akala ata mag TnT ako since akala niya solo lang ako na babae.
There were a lot of questions but the worst is the IO asked to look at my online bank history and checked recent transactions pa, to see how much it has, then when the IO saw it, he asked why it has “too much”.
I understand they’re are just doing their job, but I agree with Sir JM that maybe they could ask us questions nicely naman minsan, medyo rude kasi yung pagtatanong minsan.

I always print my necessary documents for "Just in case" scenario. Most IO are just being thorough kasi as other posters said- because of Human trafficking and they also know that Filipinos are (unfortunately) known for being TNT's. In this time and age, digital copies of airline tickets, boarding passes, hotels bookings, etc are acceptable. Also, you don't have to carry or present your birth certificate in the airport when you have a biometric passport. The IO seemed to be suspecting Vanessa and the legitimacy of your holiday travel. With regards to the IO's behaviour and manner of questioning, it's like Psy Ops. Unfortunately, she/he was wrong. Mahigpit talaga ang immigration for first timer lalo na if you travel alone..Madalas ito reason:
    - can you afford to travel
    - madaming pinay naging pokpok abroad
    Tips:
-magdala ng Company Id and show sa Immi officer na currently working ka at babalik
    - show your return ticket at hotel booking
    - if possible, acquire invitation letter sa kakilala sa destination country
    - dress up, para mukhang yayamanin. Reality baka isipin nila limited lng funds mo.
    - relax and wag mag panick or palingon lingon.. tinitingnan nila body language mo.

Super strict nila hindi lang sa first time travelers kundi sa mga solo travelers. Good thing I am well prepared with the same documents na sinubmit ko when I applied for the Schengen visa so kahit igisa nila ako ng tanong, wala silang mahahanap na reason para i offload ako. I even showed my bank statement which I felt uncomfortable at first. It was horrifying for me because she was making me feel that she was doubtful that I can afford to travel to Europe. I just dont understand why they are doing that, seems to me that they are power tripping. Only in the Philippines. Samantalang sa entry ko Italy, isang tanong lang and I am already good to go.

Rule of thumb: kelangan mapatunayan mo na, babalik ka and you can support your stay sa country destination mo, hindi ka kase dapat maging liability sa pupuntahan mo kase if that happens, red flag lahat ng pinoys. Sometimes, they ask how much pocket money kase may cap din up to how much we can only bring na cash. Confidence is the key and dapat wag magpasindak!
US, mas matindi profiling and Q&A. 😄✌️ Enjoy HK!

I agree. Some of them are really terrible. Susungitan ka pa madalas like you can feel the intent na di ka papalusutin. Worst will hold you back at baka ma miss mo flight mo (kaya better mag check in ahead of departing time) I travelled like 5 times a year to visit my mom in HK kasi she's working there pero everytime mag tatanong sila susungitan ka pa rin talaga. (I was a student when I did my travels abroad alone, 18) Tapos daming tanong and mag insist pa na I'm a dual citizen kasi bakit ilang beses daw bumalik balik kahit hindi and makikita naman nila sa system yun. While in my first visit in HK(first flight din) madami tanong yes like ilang days, sino kasama (tho I was with a relative nung una), complete address ng house and etc. pero the person smiled at the end and even extended my 2 weeks stay for another week kahit my ticket naman ako pauwi ahead. Then if pupunta ako HK after that flight wala na silang tinatanong sakin. They'll just check my passport and everything sa system then okay na since my record na ako na ilang beses bumibisita. Pero sa ph? Lol. Idk. Hahaha. Yung pasensya mo talaga matetest sa limit.

You could have gone to one IO as a group/family unless that is not (again) allowed there in the Philippines. The question about if she had a copy of birth certificate with her was totally absurd. You could have not obtained a passport without a birth certificate. Your passport is just that proof and it’s common sense. IO’s in the Philippines need proper training. Also, we need to keep up with the times. We carry documents in digital formats these days. Even we don’t need anymore paper airline tickets and boarding passes to check in.

It's nice to hear our IO is doing their job thoroughly, to thorough that certain things shouldn’t be asked and for my personal opinion IRRELEVANT e.g., “Birth Certificate, Relationship status of the passengers, sometimes even the pocket money or other personal information” technically by LAW everyone has the right to travel and not question that way unless otherwise, you are flag as a person of interest. In addition the IO don’t have the jurisdiction to ask such questions. Take the example in other countries they just ask you to present your passport because that is the only document you need. BUT Truth To Be Told Immigration here in the Philippines in particular are like that because of some Filipinos are taking risk of traveling outside country as tourist then later will overstay worst do some illegal stuff. When caught after will blame the System, so sad.

Hope this second travel di na ganun kahigpit.
