The format where I won my first and only regional xD In all seriousness, there was a very key couple of pieces missing from Cimo's list. Jigabyte and X-Saber Palomuro were both key cards in this time period with King of the Feral Imps, as the former gave easier rank 4s and the latter could be used with Hat Tricker to access Naturia Beast, which was an auto win summon for the mirror match. Those 2 are so pivotal to the pre-BOSH PePe list that I hope its looked at a little more before we move into BOSH.
Not to mention that the list also played Painful Decision and Vector Pendulum, which enabled more consistent scales and put a 0 def monster in the GY for Masked Chameleon. Also, 2 Brilliant + 2 Garnet, really?
If you think Cimo's list was bad, just look at MBT's list. No Nobledragon Magician, no Dragonpulse Magician, no SKY IRIS which is the best card in the deck by far (oh you want to use Wavering Eyes on me? Too bad!), no Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon to act as an extender to your plays by summoning the level 7 in your pendulum zone and going into an XYZ play? Not to mention Magicians used Dracoslayers as well, because why wouldn't you?
Small note about Brilliant Fusion: In Gem Knights, if you want to swing with the monster you summoned off of it, you can just pitch Gem Knight Fusion and immediately add it back to hand by banishing one of the Gem Knight monsters sent with Brilliant Fusion. It´s a nice little interaction I got to pull off in Master Duel a couple times (where it´s at 1).
As someone whose first deck was Odd Eyes Pendulum Magician and then proceeded to play this deck for the next 5 YEARS this episode has me excited to finally see this deck in action in the History of Yugioh Edit: and it’s just as bad as I remembered. @@TheGoldenBoot-cz1do it being able to prevent monster effects from activating was really strong against damage juggler so it was good for that match up and with absolute and vortex made a strong conga line of big extra deck monsters
After taking my first big pause from the game at the start of high-school during Druler format I came back to the game thanks to some new friends exactly during this time. This format will always have a special place in my heart not just because I particolary enjoyed playing it but mostly because of the people I was playing with; some that I than later lost to the threads of life. Really enjoying this series and me and my friends exactly like MBT tried for so long to make a deck that pend summon Apex works for so long a real journey trough memory lane.
One of the things I remember playing with Pendulum Magician / Odd-Eyes used to be was Sky Iris (field spell) and Odd-Eyes Fusion (fusion spell card). Sky Iris could protect the scales from targeting and also search your odd-eyes monster or spell. And Odd-Eyes Fusion allowed you to make Vortex dragon way easier (as it has a effect if your opponent controls monsters you can use your extra deck). That was 1 reason why you run the Odd-Eyes Rebellion XYZ in extra. Also Majespecter Kirin was playable and was a free bounce and a LVL 6 for your Norito or Utopia rank 6 plus Odd-Eyes double damage OTK. Glad to see MBT play one of my favourite archtypes, even if this was its first build. :)
It was honestly the worst build he picked. There was a Odd-Eyes Magician Turbo Deck that could get out Absolute Dragon which makes people think about doing stuff and also Meteorburst Dragon just says no to effects in the Battle Phase.
I'm so excited to see Odd-Eyes Magician here. I loved this deck when it came out, even if I bought my Apex Avians late and so I had to pay an extra $12 per copy for.
19:24 Cimo could have done Foolish Burial into Trick Clown, then overlay with Joker to make either Ptolemaeus into Pleiades to interrupt, or King of the Feral Imps to get Partnaga to get to scales for Wavering Eyes. Passing on Joker was stupid imo

I have to say as someone who played pendulum magician during that exact era of yugioh that while at first the decklist looked like what joseph was piloting, eventually it started to include many more pendulum monsters inlcuding bunbuku, kirin and lots of odd-eyes with sky iris which is a crazy card. I hope during the next episodes you show off that build of pendulum magician (without the performages) which was the second best deck during PePe and that got kirin banned! Especially as we played Luster too! Edit: Wow. What on earth was that second game from MBT? I get that Max 'C' is scary, but you only draw 1 from a pendulum summon. He could have easily Pendulum summoned two different monsters in defence mode. 2 monsters for 1 card is an extremely good deal, and MBT could have stopped right there. Shields up and ready to defend his board. Now, I don't think he could have gone into a rank 7 sadly, so no dracossack for even more defence. But even so, MBT basically gave Cimo the win with his poor play, and then instantly began bitching how bad the deck is. Only a poor workman blames his tools. Edit 2: Well, at least he took game 3, but Cimo played so poorly by not going into Trick Clown right away with Foolish Burial and then Xyz summoning into something, probably King of the Feral Imp, so that Trick Clown is ready to play.
@@user-jk7vp7vn2k Yeah, there's nothing stopping you from using the effects of Magician Pendulum Effects after you active Pendulum Call. You just can't use Pendulum call if you've used a Magician's Pendulum's effects first.
Discard 1 card; add 2 "Magician" Pendulum Monsters with different names from your Deck to your hand, also, until the end of your opponent's next turn after this card resolves, "Magician" cards in your Pendulum Zones cannot be destroyed by card effects. You can only activate 1 "Pendulum Call" per turn. You cannot activate this card if you activated a "Magician" monster's Pendulum Effect this turn.
@@dolphinsniper you said he could have easily scaled the wisdom eye to pop itself to search whatever. You can't do that the turn you use pend call due to the second line of text. I remember buying this deck Sophomore year of Highschool and easily becoming the most hated in the friend group because I played pendulums and no one else bothered to learn how they work
Does MBT not know that the entire pendulum summon only counts as one special summon? Should have just pendulum summoned as many monsters as possible in defense and give Cimo one single draw. That at least would have given him the chance to survive one turn. But no, he for whatever reason leaves the field completely open.
He only had 2 monsters to pend summon which were both basically vanilla monsters. It's not worth giving cimo a draw just to put two garnets on board. It literally didn't matter and cimo had dark hole regardless
@@Spiffyy69 He did it twice. And you are telling me that letting Cimo break even one card advantage is worse then leaving your field open against a deck that only needs 4 cards to OTK you anyway? Wether they are vanilla monsters doesn't matter because pendulum monsters go into the extra deck anyway, that's their gimmick. He won't lose anything since as you've said, they are just vanilla monsters anyway, it's not like he has to save their ignition effect. Better wall up for the chance to survive then just do nothing. There is absolutely no excuse for this. Especially since unlike us they don't know what the opponent has, it's not like he simply gave up because he knew Cimo had Dark Hole. And he did it in both duels. So yes, it would have mattered, at least in the first duel. Look at Cimo's end field and tell me how he would have otked through two defense monsters with that field? He would have survived had he walled up instead of just passing with no cards on the field at all. I watched this because I thought they couldn't make any huge mistakes playing Pendulum Decks. And I once again stand corrected. Try to make as many excuses as you want but that was just a horrible play.
@@pandaman1331 The first game he opened double avian so you have no idea what you're talking about lol so that means he has double avian, odd eyes, and a spell/trap. I hate how often they just pass against MAXX C. Like yes, you give your opponent a card, but you know he is on a consistent OTK deck, so pass on nothing will get you killed anyways. Might as well play a little
He points out that it didn't matter in the end because the one card he had to defend himself would have just gotten castel so why give your opponent more cards in hand
@@TainyaGaming Well, you force a Castel, which is most likely less damage. Like I said, you'll die anyways, so just try. Also, even if it wouldn't have changed something this time, it's not the first time they do it. And it annoys me a little every time, when they just shut down as soon as they see earth insect.
I loved playing Six Samurai at this time. Having access to floodgates like Gozen, Rivalry and Anti-Spell Fragrance (In addition to Shi-en and Naturia Beast) made Pendulum match ups a lot more one sided.
I like how they thought making Brilliant Fusion a Continuous Spell so MST can "negate" it would be enough to make it balanced. As proven time and again, easy answers to problem cards existing don't make them any less of a problem.
Is there a point to running 3 upstart goblin in a 41 card deck? I would do it just out of OCD since i want to run the maximum but wouldn't 2 upstart in a 40 card deck be almost exactly the same but marginally better since your opponent would be 1000 lp lower in some situations?
It means you're marginally less likely to draw Garnet, as long as you use Brilliant Fusion before Upstart. Is it worth it? Unlikely, the correct cut is probably some other card instead of the third Upstart anyway.

But even so, MBT basically gave Cimo the win with his poor play, and then instantly began bitching how bad the deck is.
Only a poor workman blames his tools.
Edit 2: Well, at least he took game 3, but Cimo played so poorly by not going into Trick Clown right away with Foolish Burial and then Xyz summoning into something, probably King of the Feral Imp, so that Trick Clown is ready to play.
popping wisdom after resolving the spell?
@@user-jk7vp7vn2k Yeah, there's nothing stopping you from using the effects of Magician Pendulum Effects after you active Pendulum Call. You just can't use Pendulum call if you've used a Magician's Pendulum's effects first.
Discard 1 card; add 2 "Magician" Pendulum Monsters with different names from your Deck to your hand, also,
until the end of your opponent's next turn after this card resolves, "Magician" cards in your Pendulum Zones cannot be destroyed by card effects.
You can only activate 1 "Pendulum Call" per turn. You cannot activate this card if you activated a "Magician" monster's Pendulum Effect this turn.
@@Spiffyy69 Yes, and? Your point is?
@@dolphinsniper you said he could have easily scaled the wisdom eye to pop itself to search whatever. You can't do that the turn you use pend call due to the second line of text.
Ik your comment said much more than that but it shows a lot when you don't know that because it's such a crucial thing every player who has played pend call would know
The mist valley version reminds me of when thunder dragon colossus was legal and I was running 3 og thunder dragon in an effort to draw 1 of them to pitch and search 2 and make a colossus
Really wish we got to see the insanity that is plushfire in this game. Hopefully we can see it in another episode because that card is sooooo nutty
Why is Cimo playing a 41 card deck with three Upstart Goblins? Just get rid of a Goblin at that point. Or the second Garnet...
This was so fun to play it was my first competitive deck and it did great !!
Man I can't believe they're showing off the ltra secret errata of Skullcrobat that changes it's text to *perform* monster
Trif’s favorite ep
First line of Masked Chameleon: Cannot be Normal Summoned. ;)
You should have played Florian Ginevra's 1st place CCG (cancelled ycs Lille replacement) decklist. It was way ahead of the whole room and he played really cool techs ! ❤️
Fav format right here when I started yugioh
You guys need to talk about High Speed Riders
I remember buying this deck Sophomore year of Highschool and easily becoming the most hated in the friend group because I played pendulums and no one else bothered to learn how they work
We had a friend that was the only pendulum player and we were the friend group that all refused to learn to do so. It was grand.
Oh lord MBT describing my exact cope from 2015 hurt
Tell me about it. Between that and his completely inability to build a decent Pendulum Magician deck, this is the worst History episode by far.
@@pandaman1331 The first game he opened double avian so you have no idea what you're talking about lol so that means he has double avian, odd eyes, and a spell/trap. Obviously the other card in hand didnt complete the scale with odd-eyes. Smh dude, please tell me what he was supposed to pend summon without a complete scale
@@Spiffyy69 Due, stop making up shit. We don't see MBT's hand. How would you even know he had double Avian? You are just trying to make pathetic excuses for his bad plays. He played like shit, periodt!
I need to commission someone to make a plushfire. Like as in a plush of it.
AYYYYE MBT ON MY FIRST COMPETITIVE DECK LETS GO!
Ah yes, my favorite performapal: hat tricker
41 card deck with upstarts in it, 2 brilliant 2 garnet ratio for some reason, what a list
I loved playing Six Samurai at this time. Having access to floodgates like Gozen, Rivalry and Anti-Spell Fragrance (In addition to Shi-en and Naturia Beast) made Pendulum match ups a lot more one sided.
Wonder how many times cimoo will draw garnets in today's episode
Oh boy, one episode until, tear… Zero…
Has science gone too far?!
Ladies and gentlemen welcome to true modern Yugioh where the games are over in minutes!
They're finally playing the best deck let's go
This was only ... the beginning.
I like how they thought making Brilliant Fusion a Continuous Spell so MST can "negate" it would be enough to make it balanced. As proven time and again, easy answers to problem cards existing don't make them any less of a problem.
New rule:
Color joker yellow
Color all searches joker can make yellow
That way you can't possibly mix up the searches!
Is there a point to running 3 upstart goblin in a 41 card deck? I would do it just out of OCD since i want to run the maximum but wouldn't 2 upstart in a 40 card deck be almost exactly the same but marginally better since your opponent would be 1000 lp lower in some situations?
You are correct, no point in these decks. No one said the people that built the decks were good at it.
It means you're marginally less likely to draw Garnet, as long as you use Brilliant Fusion before Upstart.
Is it worth it? Unlikely, the correct cut is probably some other card instead of the third Upstart anyway.
Skullcrobat searching performage hat tricker is a broken effect, no wonder the card was on the FnL list. Oh cimo, always playing the broken cards with secret hidden broken effects lol
At this point I think they should absolutely have done the old setting monsters in the s/t zone in infernity
I know people left the game shortly after this time but this was around the time I started and man do I miss it. I stopped playing towards the end of the vrains era and can't seem to get motivated enough to get into the new decks
Boomers hated pendulums even when the meta was very low, pepe was hit after 2 weeks and hit a month later and after that metalfoes we're good and that this end of pendulum of mr3, they we're irrelevant until links and pend evolution droped
@@lucasalarcon3230 yeah idk why people complained so much
I get you can ss 5 turn 1 but if you go back 2-3 formats you could already do that
its so funny my non pendulum ninja deck around this time was still making rank 4s faster than any pend deck I was seeing...you wouldn't think that to be the case but it was happening and it was nuts
Cimo had it in the bag without cheating then proceeded to cheat. That tracks for these two
They skipped Psyframe, MBT is perfect for that deck
I’m sure that’ll come up in Jank eventually
