Great videos, Greg! I really like the Alaska stuff and looking forward to your moose hunting installment. A friend and I recently purchased two sets of ACME Gen 4 shocks. My experience was different than yours. So far I've been happy with their performance, but there was zero post-sale follow-up when we needed help. We called and emailed ACME with questions about stance and fit issues and never got a response. As you mention, our gear was splayed out too far. The larger problem was that the axle spacer bushings are not compatible with Atlee Dodge Super Cub 3" extended gear. We improvised and burr ground two sides of each of the four bushings to fit. This left little bearing surface and the spacers look hacked up. We also had to relieve areas inside the gear tube for heims clearance. I asked for replacement spacers to install on compatible Airframes gear but, again, no response. If anyone plans to bolt ACME shocks to Atlee gear be advised. I hope ACME decides to make compatible spacers.
Sorry to hear that. I had the cabane Vee from Javron which has been pressed for clearance on the upper attach point so I ended up not needing the off center bushings. I made my own on center bushings for the upper. There are a lot of different issues for a shock company even just trying to make a shock for a super cub. You would think no problem since it has been around for so long. I have Javron gear which is narrower then Atlee or Airframes so my shocks were to long. I bought mine new from a guy in Alaska that decided he could not run them since he was part 135. Acme said send them back and they would fix them for me even though I was not the original purchaser... Call Matt or Goose again if you have not and bend their ear about it.
Excellent video. Raised in AK - '62-'89. They PDX. Wish I knew you then. Built an RV6A and flew to Mt Denali. Looking forward to the Moose Hunt Vid. Hopefully only the camera had a bad landing.
That was really interesting seeing that gear system up close finally. I like the stinger config over the t3, it looks less stressed and compact. Hope you moose hunt vid is a long one.
@Mauleguy did you have to land on the pavement at Merrill due to being heavy and needing more runway distance? The gravel strip there is pretty nice, but can be a bit short. Sounds like a hell of a moose trip!
No, I was using a friends hanger next to Dan's Aircraft so if I had to taxi all the way there I might as well land right next to the taxi exit. Wear and tear on tires taxiing long distance from gravel strip would be much more.
Awesome Greg! Everybody really loves the Acme stuff. It's great they work with customers to tailor make what they need. Really liked the camera angles in the ditches...well done! Looking forward to the moose hunt video. I'm stoked about your new swag...gonna order some tonight! Love the new logo's!
@@mauleguy thanks. It almost looked like Oratex on bushwacker and wanted to see if it was what your thoughts on life were. I have a friend using it on a Cub rebuild, but no idea if it's going to provide a long life like my Ceconite has (43 years and counting)
@@General-Grant I did Oratex on my Silver wide body cub, I would not do it again. Not so much because of the lasting issue (although that is probably something to consider). The main reason is the tapes would not stay on. The service I experienced from Lars was fairly argumentative. I think there are good things about it but to many negatives for me.

Thanks, yes it has been awhile
Glad to see ya back.
That “favorite shot of the day”….guess I don’t need to worry about if the Acme’s can handle a side load. 😁

I’m on the list and eagerly awaiting the STC from Acme for my PA-18.
You are going to love them!
Great flying

@@mauleguy Thanks, this is good to know as I near my swap to PA-12 wings on the J5 and also for the recover of the frame.
