I'm not a fan boy for any brand, but I do have to say that just like an m16 or m4 vs the AK 47...having owned all 3 and many knifes...there is a reason why the Ak is harder to jam and stop in most cases than the other...if your tolerances are to tight and there is no play, then you get gunked up and jammed up quicker

Can't tell you how many times I've come so close to buying one of the Benchmade OTF's lol. They are probably equal in terms of quality when it comes to OTF's imo to MT. Absolutely LOVE the Ultratech's and UTX's for EDC though. The prop. hardware is a little annoying for sure -bird
BirdShot IV it’s that price diff between benchmade and microtech. What 275$ for Ultratech and 400$ for infidel with lower quality steal. It’s hard to pull the trigger on benchmade. Way overpriced. Am I crazy ?

The only reason I like the Microtech more is due to the blade proportion look. But other than that, I completely agree with you on the Microtech argument! I still hold that Benchmade charges WAY too much.
AsianKy1e I can agree with this sentiment. Every time I consider getting a benchmade I remember the “dainty-ness” of the blade. And also, I really like that MT uses premium steels, whereas BM uses ordinary.
I'm also in agreement I was shopping for a knife this last week and was between ultratech or a benchmade 3300 and went with the ultratech for $275 the benchmade was $350 at my local gun shop but benchmade owner or CEO is anti gun
MICROTECH does put out more blade configurations and variations with their otf’s. Single edge, double edge, tanto, etc. They also use different blade finishes like satin, stonewashed, mirrored, blackout. They offer two-tone with or without full serrations or semi serrations on their blades. Imho the best serrations on the market. Microtech uses a variety a different colors for their aluminum handles and step it up for special editions to carbon fiber and customized anodized fittings/hardware. They also use more exotic steels and Damascus on their oft’s and give the user more options. None of the competitors offer such variety. Not to mention the various blade grinds and angles that are second to none. The detail on microtech otf blades are by far superior to all other production otf knives on the market to date.
Microtech is the "gold standard" of otf knives, probably because they popularized them, so every other otf gets compared to them. A few manufacturers are on par or better, some are worse, and everything gets more complicated when you throw pricing into the mix. I was looking at the phaeton, but for me it came down to the ultratech being available in m390, and also having wider blade stock. I also dislike the proprietary screws, they don't serve any useful purpose, especially if loctite was neglected during assembly. In the end, a well made knife is a well made knife, no matter what brand is on it.
Microtech just uses way better steels, the d2 on the infidel is just plain embarrassing on a $400 knife, u can get a microtech ultratech for $300 maybe less and it has m390 or 204p wich are arguably the best steels out there. People complain about microtech being overpriced and they probably are but at least u get a premium steel, again $400 for a d2 blade its outrageous, I can get a $50 knife with d2 steel, benchmade needs to step up their game...
I totally agree. I have 3 Microtech OTF knifes and for over 200 bucks a company should be able to fix a rattling deploy button with lots of slop. I wont buy anymore MT just for this reason alone. Not worth the money
Yeah I see people talking about the button play... It's designed with a spring inside underneath the button. That button play on your actuation button is by design.
Now here is what I think is the most correct answer :) Microtech is NOT my favorite. Their name and the way they always are sold out(Not many seem to be made), but I fully believe it's like you say. We should like here, look for the knives side by side and there Microtech lose IMO :)
I think that serves as evidence of the contrary. Why buy something that everyone has? Not that alluring if you see every John, dick, and joe carrying a micro tech.
Michael Frandsen And i DONT like Benchmade, they are good in the market for folding blade’s and AXIS but Microtech has never let me down and that’s not what i can say from Benchmade! They should stay away from OTF’s ! But hey thats just my opinion...... they tried and i respect that but if it wont deliver ....then stop trying to jump higher then you can! Give me a Microtech anny time of the day! And if you cant bring up the the force you need to deploye an UTX85 then sure stay away from a Combat Troodon or even a Scarab
I just ordered a utx 70, it was between that or an infidel, and the infidel was juuuust too much money. I know im going to get a good solid knife with benchmade, but that over 400, it was just too much.
Microtechs are sexier than benchmades. Also I've seen the torture tests for microtechs but not for any other otf. The torture tests I think speak for themselves, but that is purely my opinion. I do wish they were a little cheaper.
I’ve purchased 3 Benchmade OTfs and have returned 2 of them. My last purchase was the Autocrat and it failed to fire like 20 percent of the time. I prefer the Microtech line. Maybe I just got lemons? I’ve reviewed a bunch of Microtechs on my channel but I gave up on BM OTFs.
The main reason I prefer microtech to the infidel is the microtech has a stronger lock in my experience and my infidel seemed to be more sensitive to getting too dirty to properly operate. I work in a sawmill though, it's not common for a knife to be exposed to the amount of dust, hydraulic oil and frigid temperatures they see in my pocket. I also beat on my work knives pretty bad. The microtech holds up really well to moderate use.
I wish the Phaeton’s blade was as broad as the Microtech’s blade. The Phaeton’s blade looks a little too disproportionately slim/skinny compared to its handle.
Absolutely a Lifetime Warranty and I love my UTX70 and since 2014 it’s been sent and sent back 4 different times and it seems to keep having the failure to deploy issue. It being the bottom line 70 I would have thought after the 2nd or 3rd issue they would have just replaced it. I’m going to go rogue and open it myself and replace the spring and see if that fixes it. I actually love a Microtech Knife but Despise an Ego. Semper Fi. 3/6 .
@@Daddy53751 yes and it seemed to just be a small issues with the Carrier that the Blade rides on and I have an Ultratech now and it’s insanely hard to deploy but getting better and I will say Microtech Warranty Service now is Top Tier and i had a one week turnaround on an Ultratech spring replacement. They also offer an amazing Military Purchase Program with a huge discount.
Everyone is saying microtech because that's what they own...They have been at it for a while But I'm picking up a phaeton over the ultratech little more blade length I'm fine with S30v actually prefer for ease of sharpening Benchmade warranty is in my opinion the best and they use torx so that u can service it..Also l have huge hands that would be hitting of the glass breaker
I agree, micro techs ARE generally overrated and over priced. However, that switch jiggle is merely due to design. There is a tiny spring underneath the switch that keeps it suspended. The benefit of this design is that it keeps dirt from your thumb from getting into the mechanism during actuation. You’ll notice there are no open slots under the trigger like there are in the Benchmades. Just FYI nice vid
Thanks for info. Still, as the switch is like the first tactile feel you have, it’s signals to me, sh*t quality. All other OTF’s I have are tighter than a drum, and never have dirt issues. But, what do I know? Not a super knife designer for sure. But will stick with my (perceived) higher build quality knives.
I find any OTF over $400 to be extremely overpriced. At best an OTF is a really cool shank or letter opener. With that said I find manual side openers from microtech to be great knives. Just wish they made a lot more of them
Fit and finish the houge, benchmade and microtech are fairly similar. However where I personally feel that microtech is ahead of competition is in the choice of steel used in their blades, as well as the large amount of options available for each design. Simply steel superiority and variety in each model are what make them better for me.
Almost Smart i have owned both now and personally SIGNIFICANTLY prefer the microtech. i prefer the mt blade steel choices but that's personal preference, but the blade size was more useful on the microtech and it had no play. my benchmade rattled around and had a tiny super thin blade compared to the the size of the handle. neither misfired once though so props to both
So I'm a huge Microtech fan. But I absolutely agree with you that it seems to me they're not unequivocally better than some of the other brands, for the reasons you mention. I'm actually really interested in an Infidel (maybe a Mini) after watching you use yours.
I’ve always been a Benchmade man never buy anything else got my first microtech and both are the best in their own way although certain things that microtech does is more geared towards heavy use and abuse compared to edc plus for round about the same price the microtech usually use higher end steels for the same price as extremely outdated d2 and S30v I enjoy both and carry both brands but the microtech now find their way too my hand more so than the others
@@SneakyCaleb I've been working mine for a few days and it has gotten a little better, was wondering if it will go smooth? Awesome knife for sure, scary sharp.
Late comment, however I have had a LUDT in m390 and have heavily used it, hasn’t let me down. I’ve had multiple ultratechs and haven’t absolutely loved them. Just ordered a BM infidel in s30v hopefully I love it.
YES, MINE IS A ULTRATECH, WAS A $295 RATTLING KNIFE. THAT LUDT AINT WORTH THE MONEY EITHER, I HAVE ONE. My video was titled microtech ultratech the $295 rattling knife.
Honestly, I concur. Both companies make great knives, however most Microtech's OTF's are too stiff. I tried opening the Cypher with one hand to no avail, I had to use both hands. Great point about the traction. Most knives I will not buy if it's too smooth to hold onto with very few exceptions. Benchmade service and warranty is flawless. They care about doing the right thing for the consumer and honoring that committment. I don't know if Microtech can match that. Lastly, with Microtech, you're paying for the name. Benchmade has my vote.
Thanks this was helpful, I am looking to buy my first OTF and this actually gives me good information showing the difference between the microtech and the benchmades
First off, I love the objective thinking. As a Microtech fanboy (a proud one, at that) I could never jump out and say that they’re “better” than any other company out there, although they’re my favorite. I know, it all comes down to preference and so many of us get caught up in trying to justify our purchases, but to say any one brand is the one to rule them all is a stretch. Now that I’ve added a whole lot of nothing to your comments, I have to go pick up a utx 85...
I have both the UTX 85 and The Infidel mini and honestly I think they both perform equally. I cut alot of types and sizes of rope. As far as play in the blade thats normal for an OTF.
Microtechs hold there value!! And there known to bed out of stock in certain models forever...look at the STITCH now inner of the hottest knifes now only because you can't up and order one..anyway Microtechs are my favorite brand because they hold value regardless condition!
I disagree . My child's mother couldn't and she's a 28 year old in shape woman who's 5 foot 9 ... Kinda embarrassing to spend 250 and say these things are the best then she can't even fire it.
I have an ultratech and a cypher. I like Microtech design except they are too hard to deploy and retract. Actually the cypher is easier. But they carry really well in the pocket and they are fun to play with. I also don’t like the fact that they want you to send it back to them for taking apart and cleaning.
Thank you! I bought my wife a MT utx-70... paid $220ish for it. My observations: 1) The edge was DULL 2) The Bohler M390 steel was extremely soft. As soon as I got one side sharpened, I’d flip it over and the bevel on the other side was gone. 3) Stiff action... too stiff 4)There was blade play right out of the box. This knife is not worth the money IMO and I’m thinking about sending it back. That’s something I never do, but I’m that unhappy with it. For the money, I was expecting a lot more than a fancy box, and a subpar knife. Should’ve bought her a Hogue.
@@SneakyCaleb that’s what I keep being told... by people who know. I’m convinced the hype and defense of MT, is nothing more than guys trying to convince themselves that their $500 troodon was money well spent, and they totally did not get ripped off.
I once owned an Infidel. When I got it, I was so excited. I tested it by stabbing it into 3" corrugated cardboard. The blade was pshed halfway into the handle and jammed stuck. I could not get it to work after that. I sent it back and got my money back. I am leary of ever buying another infidel again. I like the sytyle of the Infidel but don't think I would rely on it for anything.
I can’t really speak for benchmades otfs. But I’ve had a few axis locks fail on me and some terrible symmetry with blade grind lines on benchmades and if you ask me that’s out of line for what they charge. As far as micro tech, the only one I own and have ever handled is my utx 70. It’s tiny and I love it. I’ve seen some videos of people just beating the hell out of those utx 85s and while I don’t think that makes any sense, it is nice to know it will hold up to a degree of usage. Some guys have carried a micro tech otf for years without failure. Great video btw, I agree with you. I wish they would release a batch now and then with less expensive steel. Say 154 cm for example. I’d gladly pay 100 bucks for a 154 cm micro tech knife. But they probably wouldn’t even drop in price even if they did use a lesser steel.
Understand your point..the mine is because from the minute 3:24 you start to talk about why the people think that Microtech is better and you start to compare with other knives with twice of value. I will love to see te comparition betewen similar knifes just that. Thank for your video, nice knives that you have
I’ve owned a bunch of 85s over the years and ultratechs. I like ultratechs way better than 85s. The little difference in size makes a big difference IMO.
Yes im sorry but microtech is a high quality blade no doubt. But the price point is just to high. I mean the smallest one will set you back 200$ plus. I think they are the Harley Davidson of the knife world. Your paying for the name.
Great Video, I’ve been saving to get a top-tier OTF and watching videos on the Phaeton and Mini Infidel for several days and I’ve pretty much ruled out the UTX 85. It’s so great you have a Hawk Mudd knife and think the Deadlock is amazing. Semper Fidelis
My thought on the pin hole screws, maybe try a pair of snap ring pliers? Might be just the right size to get in there and keep things snug although they probably won't be any good for torquing them down but sometimes it better then nothing... or you can always find some finishing nails cut them flat and mount them in something solid or soldered, braised, welded, tracked, glued, or what ever you think will hold strong enough for the job at hand? Just some rando thoughts... 🥃cheers🍻
Microtech is a million times better then benchmade. Microtech has better blade to chassis ratio, better steel. Infidel has way more blade play ,microtech has very little play. Microtech fire so much harder , which makes it less likely to fail. Just the whole microtech design is better
The Benchmade phaeton and microtech ultratech are the same knife basically. The phaeton has the same exact internals as a microtech. I don't know if microtech straight-up manufactured the body themselves or license Benchmade to do it but they're the same
That's a great look at these knives. The only autos I've had before the UTX-85 were the Protech The Don, a couple small Protechs, and a Kershaw Launch. The Kershaw was as good IMO as the small Protechs, but the Protech Don wasn't working out due to the little "scabbard" things catching in my pocket. I like the look and design and quality of the Microtech, but the deployment is ridiculously stiff. If it gets easier to open and close that could make it a keeper, otherwise I dunno.
The button play is intentional... There is a hole and a spring underneath the button. So wiggling that button and complaining about the noise isn't "pointing out a defect", it's more like complaining about the intentional design of the button.
@@SneakyCaleb Yes but not in their out the fronts. Dont get me wrong benchmade is a good knife ive owned 2 infidels and the spring broke in one of them but that was just a fluke.
how long do you think those springs on otfs will hold up? Im more concern about longevity. About those rattles, ive read somewhere that its better for otfs to have that like how vertical play means more secure lock up on lockbacks.
just got me a marfione cypher od green today, and the sound at 3:28, when in my hand, it felt definite and with purpose. Then it hit me, this knife has a theatrical aspect to it. I could see me 'playing this knife' like an instrument with its loosened part in a scenario where I want to raise the tension, or create subtle awareness that 'hey, I've got a knife in my hand' or 'is he holding a knife, what is that sound?' or ... basically, the modern version of the good 'ol ('bad boy') switchblade/butterfly of the 80s
i love my utx 70 but i wish it didnt have so much blade play wich im super picky about, but that seems to come with the otf action design. i wish i could buy more autos but i live in soviet canada and they are prohibited :(
Just picked up a utx85 t/e. Got it for a good price so I jumped but honestly I do feel the quality could be better for the money. I had a few failures to deploy which my have been from some pocket lint getting in the wrong place, blew it out and haven't had anymore problems. But the blade play does bug me a bit.
The price difference and the blade steel from microtech definitely should have been mentioned during this video. Microtech generally has much better steel for a lot better price.
What I think is... my Microtech is so stiff I can hardly operate it sometimes, their LUDT is much better than their OTF knives. I'd say Benchmade in a sec if you compared them, I never owned a Benchmade OTF, but have played with one owned by a friend. Nice stuff you got, keep telling the truth. You may save someone else from much frustration. Thanks AS
I own benchmade..love em..I own microtech..love em more..and yes microtech is stiff but not a problem for a man...and microtech is built better in my opinion..and I actually carry and use my knives they are not safe queens
Benchmades autos are just overpriced. You can get a ultratech with m390 for way less then a infidel. And I prefer the side mounted switch. And the overall look.
For double action EDC I'd go Benchmade all day. However when I don't feel like carrying my side arm, I conceal carry a Halo VI. Id like to pick up one of those drop point Infidels. Super hard to find though.
I think they are both quality knives. My experience has been that my utx-85’s deploy just a little easier than my infidel and mini infidel, however, they all are easy to deploy in my opinion.
So with all this being said. What would you recommend: Benchmade phaeton or and ultra tech? Going to make a purchase soon on my first otf.. and can’t make my mind up. Going to be an edc. So it will be abused
You know, it’s the perception that Microtech is a better knife maker. They’ve done a better name brand marketing campaign. Much like Harley Davidson motorcycle company. Honda is way better product, but they didn’t do a good job selling the name in their bike market. Good video. I am in the market to get a Ultatech and I think you just changed my mind. I have to justify $300 on a Ulteatech. Thanks for the post. 👍
It comes down to the same argument with handguns. One is easier to carry and the other is easier to cut with. The Microtech is trimmer and easier to carry. The Benchmade is bulkier and easier to get a good grip. They are both nice but they are going for a little different concept.
The only reason why I prefer Microteck otfs is because of the designs. All of Benchmades OTFs just look too bulky and the blade to handle ratio just doesn't look right. The Autocrat is probably the only Benchmade otf I would get.
I’m actually advocating for MT to make what I call “Ultratech 115”. A 15% larger Ultratech. I’d seriously love an “Ultratech 115”!!! As far as the perception of MT, I think at a certain point it becomes something along the lines of Gibson Guitars, and Glock pistols, and folks want the “original benchmark” of whatever it might be. Other makers are making factually superior guitars and pistols but there’s a comfort and satisfaction of the “original”. Quasi religious “fan boys” are IMO a completely separate category, and I’ve no explanation for them. That’s what I think.
Gladly to see someone talking the truth. Actually all microtech double actions(including scarab YES even you have two springs) have their spring on tension whenever they are deployed or not... While infidel does not. You can find this through their disassembling videos on youtube.
Nice to see another video.. You have some great knives.. I bought that LE 10 anniversary BM Infedel..What's the deal with the chisel grind ? I've been trying to research it.. Somewhere it says that it makes the knife a better piercer or stays sharp longer...But, the blade is really thin... What do you do for maintenance/oiling ? I really appreciate your input.. I picked up an REI 940-1702 too..It's green G10 with purple back spacers.. I think I remember you like green.. But, the steel isn't upgraded (still S30V).. It's about $25 more then the 940-2 but I like the colors.. Thanks.....
I like the colors on that one alot very similar to the regular 940 which is my favorite! I don't oil my otfs if they have an issue I will send them to warranty work but none of my Benchmades/Microtechs have needed any help. The blade on the infidel is very thin but it's not perfectly chisel ground like the pegan. It's strong enough I think but yeah thats why I prefer the rare single edge one shown in this video because it's thicker and will be easier to sharpen!
I have a UTX-85 and the Phaeton. IMO The Benchmade is a much better edc since it lacks the glass breaker. Absolutely love the jimping on the Benchmade too. I still think the microtech is a great blade but the benchmade is arguably better
I’m not sure but I own about 5 microtechs and I love them they just have a better logo and the have better looking blades like the hell hounds it’s like Mercedes versus BMW pretty much the same just Slightly different tech
I looked at all your comments. No one mentions your “bitch” moment?? Isn’t that what you said and then laughed to yourself?? Cool knives. I’ve been looking at getting a Microtech. I actually wish the screws were like a normal hex head or more subtle. I don’t like the look of the triangle looking screws. Thanks for the review
I like my Microtechs. They are fun and carry well. Even my cypher. No other knife that size carries that easy. The biggest beef I have is the hardware. If you use an OTF like I do they are going to get dirty and not deploy properly. Microtech says to blow it out with compressed air and spray REM oil on it. If all you have is pocket lent that might work. But dirt, blood, grease and other stuff doesn’t blow out. Now you can pay shipping and send it in to Microtech. If I can take apart my CRK and clean it why can’t I be trusted with the Microtech?
I agree, my benchmade infidel button is tight to the frame opened & closed, the loose button my UTX-85 T/E 233-4TA drives me crazy.. but my Protechs are the best
For me microtechs just have a cool factor that i love more than benchmade but quality wise both are great. i guess it's a matter of personal preference. : )
You're comparing a $300 blade to a $400 blade. I'll take microtech all day for 100 bucks cheaper than the competition. So you may be right about the button not having the wobble on the Benchmade but it's not worth 100 dollars to take that wobble out of my microtech.
They’re my favorite OTFs because I love their aesthetics. I also love that they use Elmax and M390 instead of more everyday steels. I think they’re the top OTFs on the market just by an inch for that reason.

Semper Fi. 3/6
.
Did you ever get to the bottom of the issue?
DAVID YOHO thanks , glad to hear we got some phaeton votes haha . Just ordered the phaeton just like in the video and I’m stoked
First time seeing a vid of yours. Massive flex with those knives 😂
Good to know!
Thank you !
I think that there is slight variation in each one between benchmade and micro tech and from what I’ve heard generally microtechs have less play.
Maybe true
Almost Smart i have owned both now and personally SIGNIFICANTLY prefer the microtech. i prefer the mt blade steel choices but that's personal preference, but the blade size was more useful on the microtech and it had no play. my benchmade rattled around and had a tiny super thin blade compared to the the size of the handle. neither misfired once though so props to both
@@butterflyeffect2411 all the models have different blades etc. Both are nice. And both have lemons from the factory.
So I'm a huge Microtech fan. But I absolutely agree with you that it seems to me they're not unequivocally better than some of the other brands, for the reasons you mention.
I'm actually really interested in an Infidel (maybe a Mini) after watching you use yours.
I have an ultratech due today-if it has blade play like yours,I'm sending it back
I’ve always been a Benchmade man never buy anything else got my first microtech and both are the best in their own way although certain things that microtech does is more geared towards heavy use and abuse compared to edc plus for round about the same price the microtech usually use higher end steels for the same price as extremely outdated d2 and S30v I enjoy both and carry both brands but the microtech now find their way too my hand more so than the others
@AlmostSmart Are the buttons on your L-UDTs crunchy/gritty? Does it get better with time?
Yeah they are slightly. It’s never bothered me though. They are my favorite Microtechs.
@@SneakyCaleb I've been working mine for a few days and it has gotten a little better, was wondering if it will go smooth? Awesome knife for sure, scary sharp.
Where do you trade knifes at ?
Late comment, however I have had a LUDT in m390 and have heavily used it, hasn’t let me down. I’ve had multiple ultratechs and haven’t absolutely loved them. Just ordered a BM infidel in s30v hopefully I love it.
you found one in s30v?! where? I have to agree! LUDT is one of the best models microtech makes!
I got an infidel in s30V also just picked it up 2 days ago. It was blade HQ exclusive
Benchmade has my vote.
quit being a pussy
Thanx! Almost ordered online. I'll seek out a brick and mortar dealer and "hands on" a few before pushing thru.
Thanks this was helpful, I am looking to buy my first OTF and this actually gives me good information showing the difference between the microtech and the benchmades
Ok I’m listening, he’s definitely qualified for an informed opinion
First off, I love the objective thinking. As a Microtech fanboy (a proud one, at that) I could never jump out and say that they’re “better” than any other company out there, although they’re my favorite. I know, it all comes down to preference and so many of us get caught up in trying to justify our purchases, but to say any one brand is the one to rule them all is a stretch. Now that I’ve added a whole lot of nothing to your comments, I have to go pick up a utx 85...
as someone who also owns both an ultratech and a phaeton, the innards are complementary different
And probably 85% don't get own a microtech lol.
I really just wish that benchmade would upgrade their damn steel!!!!! Make the drop point infidel again and do it in 20cv for goodness sakes.
Stitches are being put back into production super stoked.
Lol all those knives in their little sheaths
I've had a couple Mts that were hard to fire, but the 85s are probably the easiest to fire, literally a little kid could do it
I disagree . My child's mother couldn't and she's a 28 year old in shape woman who's 5 foot 9 ... Kinda embarrassing to spend 250 and say these things are the best then she can't even fire it.
ive been playing video games all my life. so ive been training my thumbs all my life for the moment i get my ultratech lol
I have an ultratech and a cypher. I like Microtech design except they are too hard to deploy and retract. Actually the cypher is easier. But they carry really well in the pocket and they are fun to play with. I also don’t like the fact that they want you to send it back to them for taking apart and cleaning.
The movement is supposed to stop internal damage.
Thank you! I bought my wife a MT utx-70... paid $220ish for it.
My observations:
1) The edge was DULL
2) The Bohler M390 steel was extremely soft. As soon as I got one side sharpened, I’d flip it over and the bevel on the other side was gone.
3) Stiff action... too stiff
4)There was blade play right out of the box.
This knife is not worth the money IMO and I’m thinking about sending it back. That’s something I never do, but I’m that unhappy with it. For the money, I was expecting a lot more than a fancy box, and a subpar knife. Should’ve bought her a Hogue.
Hogue knives are way better quality
🥃cheers🍻
Not sure how much value I can put into a rant from a guy saying "we couldn't deploy the microtech". I can definitely value your opinion though
I hear you lol! We could open it but it was incredibly stiff.
BM infidel is a smooth deployer, currently trying out MT ultratech/M390 . A bit stiffer but no prob and bits for the hardware is available.
Short answer is any expensive of a certain item is always overrated. This can apply to cars, guns, etc
Your not comparing steels. Benchmade has s30v vs microtech m390
Benchmade uses some of the best steels around including m390/20cv
@@SneakyCaleb Yes but not in their out the fronts. Dont get me wrong benchmade is a good knife ive owned 2 infidels and the spring broke in one of them but that was just a fluke.
@@mrsarg56 true
how long do you think those springs on otfs will hold up?
Microtech has wiggle room so dirt and grim doesn't stop them from deploying, it's kinda like the ak 47 of knifes
Richard Mitchell that sounds like an excuse for lesser tolerances
@@mythowrose2742 not a excuse but a good reason
im saving up for a deadlock!
Just picked up a Normandy. Lifetime warranty so I figured I couldn't go wrong at 1/3 the cost. Haven't seen any torture test yet.
My first otf comes in the mail tomorrow, its a utx85. i like seeing good and bad reviews on it.
It’s still a great blade
i love my utx 70 but i wish it didnt have so much blade play wich im super picky about, but that seems to come with the otf action design. i wish i could buy more autos but i live in soviet canada and they are prohibited :(
Just picked up a utx85 t/e.
Fucking amazing steel
For me is expensive, but the quailty is worth for the price
What I think is... my Microtech is so stiff I can hardly operate it sometimes, their LUDT is much better than their OTF knives. I'd say Benchmade in a sec if you compared them, I never owned a Benchmade OTF, but have played with one owned by a friend. Nice stuff you got, keep telling the truth. You may save someone else from much frustration. Thanks AS
Send your microtech in they'll service it and smooth out the deployment take advantage of there services, you have a lifetime warranty.
Agreed !!
So what do you think for EDC utx-85 or the ultratech? I use my knife quite a bit while working currently I cary the benchmade casbah.
I own benchmade..love em..I own microtech..love em more..and yes microtech is stiff but not a problem for a man...and microtech is built better in my opinion..and I actually carry and use my knives they are not safe queens
My microtechs always misfire, my benchmades never misfire ever love em both tho but man do misfires piss me off lol
@@luisthegoat3006 weird... I've never had a misfire.
Benchmades autos are just overpriced. You can get a ultratech with m390 for way less then a infidel. And I prefer the side mounted switch. And the overall look.
You can use a pair of snap-ring pliers for the Tighe hardware.
I hate to admit it but I've been carrying and Ultratech clone for 2 years now and love it so much im considering buying the real deal.
For double action EDC I'd go Benchmade all day. However when I don't feel like carrying my side arm, I conceal carry a Halo VI. Id like to pick up one of those drop point Infidels. Super hard to find though.
I love all my benchmades most but I dig my utx70
I think they are both quality knives. My experience has been that my utx-85’s deploy just a little easier than my infidel and mini infidel, however, they all are easy to deploy in my opinion.
So with all this being said. What would you recommend: Benchmade phaeton or and ultra tech? Going to make a purchase soon on my first otf.. and can’t make my mind up. Going to be an edc. So it will be abused
I like the points you made in the video. I agree.
12:50 failure to deploy?
Nope just feeling the detent
As far as the perception of MT, I think at a certain point it becomes something along the lines of Gibson Guitars, and Glock pistols, and folks want the
“original benchmark” of whatever it might be.
How long do the springs normally last in these otf knives and can you change them out yourself when they do break?
GitcheG75 warranty on all these companies is good
But you probably could if you had too
What website do you sell your used knives on?
Thanks for reply
Really like your ludt color! I just got a microtech Sigil and had to send it right in for warranty it was rubbing scales
dope video bro. I thought I was the only one who thought the ultratechs were stiff as fuck. Do you think the benchmade otf is worth the $400?
the infidel is sick worth every penny
1:52 ...OK, so this is in fact the first video I’ve seen of yours, and yes, I can confirm you do have knives.
And the guy below that likes their looks, looks can't protect you when you need it.
You're comparing a $300 blade to a $400 blade. I'll take microtech all day for 100 bucks cheaper than the competition. So you may be right about the button not having the wobble on the Benchmade but it's not worth 100 dollars to take that wobble out of my microtech.
