For early jar based strategies they'd usually try to mill out the opponent in one single turn through card destruction. The main idea back then was to fill up your opponent's hand like crazy by activating cyber jar multiple times during your turn (through book of moon and tayou usually) so the opponent would end up with 10+ hand cards, after which you'd use card destruction and force your opponent to draw 10+ cards again before finishing off with a way to recycle card destruction and use it again, decking out your opponent. It's funny that kaiba used the Ring Of Defense combo with Ring Of Destruction when he could've used Des Wombat or Barrel Behind The Door Instead and for anime context, Spell Of Pain is literally a straight upgrade.

You can draw multiple cards with guard penalty: The destiny hero guy (name escapes me) did it in the GX anime by changing a monster to defense position twice with spark blaster
In one of the yugioh world championship games I ran a banish focused Obelisk deck using the card Necoface. Necoface is a card that returns all banished cards to their owner's deck and gains stats for each card returned, but if it's sent to the graveyard or banished both players banish the top 5 cards of their deck, so monster recovery was a nice way of using Necoface, getting its effect off, and returning it to my deck so I can use it again when needed
I was glad to see barrel behind the door make a cameo here. My only win in any kind of competitive game was an otk where my opponent pulled some crazy first turn shit and pulled blue eyes ultimate dragon, which walked into my set Ring of destruction and barrel behind the door.
I love DuelLogs videos, but this video is like EVEN better because not only is it explained why the card is bad, it also gives you an alternative that is still bad but still way better.
5:19 Idea to make this card better: Name: Un-Break the Monster Effect: Target 1 Monster in your GY. If that monster still exists in the GY, shuffle it and your entire hand back into the deck and then you draw the same amount of cards you shuffled. Also after that, your opponent discards an equal amount of cards you drew.
1:38 Idea to improve this card by just making it apply to changing battle positions in general: _Position Penalty_ Quick-Play Spell _For the rest of the turn, each time an opponent’s monster(s) changes battle position, Draw 1 card._ So basically with this, something like “Spark Blaster” (that was in the last video BTW) would effectively become a Pot of Greed.

I genuinely think Cyber Laser Dragon would have seen at least a little play if you just had to tribute one cyber dragon, on the playground if nothing else. It's a brick in the hand, sure, but PGU summons it from anywhere so that means you can use it for discard fodder and still summon it, letting activate cards like Phoenix Wing Wind Blast basically for free. But needing two tributes immediately makes it dead in the water
It would be a better ritual monster in that situation... (at least, better in early 2000s ritual monster standards which is... not saying much) But i do agree it could. 2 Cyber dragons at that time where there were only 2 that had the actual name (Cyber Dragon and the Prototype Cyber Dragon, which changes its name when in the field) makes it too cumbersome to use. For all that effort... just slot in a power bond and a cyber twin dragon in your extra deck. If only 1 was required, upgrading a 2100 ATK to a 2400 Atk with destruction effect... or a 1100 ATK to a 2400 ATK, would have been pretty good
Sooo. During the era where Pot of Greed was actually legal (yes, I did play it, I am that old) Solemn Judgement was not nearly as good as it became because the game was far too slow. In that day, while the omni negate was nice, having to pay half of your life points was too high of a price as you would more often than not lose life points in increments of 500-1500, and protecting your card once was not worth 4000 life points. Combos were NOTHING like they even became during the end of the OG YuGiOH not even GX so the real reason why Robber never saw use was because it didn't let you draw 2 cards, only one Pot of Greed and trading one for one with no swing in tempo or card advantage was not worth it being dead on field.
Back in the day Solemn Judgment wasn't "considered" good. It was still good people were just being too cautious. Modern Goat format decks very often run a set of Solemn Judgment because hindsight it WAS worth half your life points if it stopped a blowout
If I may, I do want to say this: You do mention it would be better to run specific Trap cards then these Quick Play Spells. The thing is, if you want that to work, you'd have to hope your opponent lets you keep that set Trap on the field long enough to activate it. What's most likely to happen is the opponent will hit you with backrow removal before you have a chance to use the trap. As bad as these Quick-Plays are, they can at least be activated before your opponent can react.
I think it could see some play... but not wide spread. Most jar cards are limited / semi limited and many T1 decks have their own archetypal ways to draw / increase their consistency. I dont see Jars splashed in decks as often as i did before
5:21 Idea to make this more generic to use: _Card Recovery_ Quick-Play Spell _Target any number of cards on the field that you own: Shuffle them and your entire hand into your deck, and if you do, draw cards equal to the number of shuffled cards, and if you draw more than 6 cards, your hand size limit is increased by equal to the number of additional cards for the rest of the duel._
I knew someone who ran a Horus deck and they'd use Level Down!? on their own LV8 Horus to extend their battle phase, but only for game. I think that's the only use for it though.
Ring of Defense is probably the most painful one on the list, considering that there was no reason to nerf it compared to the anime version. Could've just make it prevent an instance of effect damage to you, wouldn't have been broken at all, but nooooo.
I can see Guard Penalty being used in a deck that can easily change positions on either side of the field. I could probably splash a copy or two into my Karakuri deck in Master Duel and get results.
9:58 Idea to amend this card to be better: _Photon Generator Unit MK.2_ Quick-Play Spell _Tribute 2 “Cyber” cards from your hand and/or field; Apply 1 of the following effects:_ _⚪️Special Summon (from your hand or deck) 1 Level 5 or lower monster than mentions “Cyber” in its name or Text._ _⚪️Activate 1 (From your Hand or Deck) 1 Spell/Trap that mentions “Cyber” in it’s name or text._ _⚪️Add to your hand, send to your GY or banish 1 card you possess that mentions “Cyber” in its name or text._
A better idea would be to retrain Cyber Laser Dragon into a Link monster. I devised a Link 3 with Y arrows (upper diagonals and straight down) that would retain the spirit of the monster. Before you complain about the Y arrows, here's the effect I had: 2+ "Cyber Dragon" This card's name is treated as "Cyber Dragon" while on the field or in the GY. This card must be summoned to an Extra Monster Zone. All "Cyber Dragon" monsters you control inflict piercing battle damage. Once per turn, you may activate one of the following effects: - Banish 1 card this card points to - Destroy 1 monster on the field with ATK less than or equal to this card. Because of the line "Must be summoned to an Extra Monster Zone", it cannot be used towards a 3 card Extra Link as the card in the middle without excessive effort to move it after being summoned.
@@azuredragoon2054 Would it be a Machine or Cyberse monster (since you can’t really spell “Cyberse” without Cyber, and the Cyberse and Link types have a lot of interplay anyway.)

I dont know if its been done already, or even practical, but what about a top 10 best cards, or best decks, during specific formats? Like early lob format, goat format, or any of the other formats that i dont actually know the names of? For example, i know there was a format where zoodiac was terrifying and i know a few of the pieces of that deck, but maybe there were more much needed cards. Or maybe there are only actually one, two or three cards that actually make a deck really good. In terms of format it could just be the 10 best cards, with maybe 1-3 of each of the top decks, depending on their individual power level, or maybe you choose the top 5 decks and choose the best 2 cards from each, or maybe the top 10 decks and just the best card of each.
Yeah, Mirage Tube definitely got nerfed hard from its anime version. In the anime, it negated the attack and burned your opponent for the attack of the target monster.
What about a top ten for "hidden" combos that arent obvious at first? To make this more clear my first thought is cyber dragon hertz into machine duplication to pull two cyber dragons
I have an idea for guard penalty What if the card can force a monster from either side to defence position and keep it that till the controlling players next turn but the controller of the monster gets a card draw when the effect resolves. Also Jar robber should be playable on any pot/jar spell/trap.
i was playing a master duel game a couple months ago and used raigeki the opponent responded with anti raigeki i was surprised who in their right mind use a specific counter trap?
You know what's worse? Burn decks are problematic enough to side deck against in goat, and its clear intent as shown in the anime is to negate the downside of ring of destruction, a very prominent trap card. Did they go that way? No, instead they preferred to chain Mystic wok so you would gain LP instead of losing those while also being a good response to battle traps.
I would say it would get SOME use... but not a whole lot. Not all decks and rely on flip cards... and the one flip card that i can see this new version can abuse is Pot of the Forbidden... but not all decks can slot that in Meanwhile, Flip-based archetypes like Subterrors have their own means of recovery... so it may be redundant. If back in the GX era where Cyberjar was still legal at 1 and the game was really slow... then yea... i can see it being useful for an Empty Jar deck

3:08 Wait, why wouldn’t that work on Magic Cylinder. Was thinking of using it as imagine I make a powerful boss monster, go to inflict 4K damage. He uses magic cylinder turning it to effect damage so I make it 0 with ring of defense. Still negated my attack, but would I still be taking the 4K?
Why is Mirage Tube a spell? It can't be activated from the hand and can only be used when one of your monsters is attacked. And I'm pretty sure you can't use spell cards during your opponent's turn.
Reliable Guardian is definitely not a good card, even in the context of Classic Yugioh. But I've just gone on Format Library and searched all Quick-Play Spells from Glad Beast format (last pre synchro format) and there are definitely some worse ones, including: "A" Cell Scatter Burst A Deal with Dark Ruler Combination Attack Malice Dispersion Mind Wipe Tailor of the Fickle There are a few situational ones that are also pretty bad but could have uses
0:10 Idea to improve/Retrain this card: _The Dependable Guardian_ Quick-Play Spell _Target 1 Face-Up monster you control: Increase that target’s DEF by equal to its original ATK, then further Double its DEF. While that target is in face-up Defense Position, you take no battle or effect damage from your opponent, and any such damage you would take instead increases the target’s DEF equally._
Quick-Plays can be activated during your opponents turn only if you set them face down like trap cards. The Condemned Maiden's effects let you keep them safe in your hand until you need to use them.
isnt monster recovery a -1 ? you draw by the amount of card you shuffle so if you have 1 monster & 5card hand, activate monster recovery you shuffle 6 then draw 6 ?
No, monster recovery exclusively states "cards you shuffled from your hand", so with one monster on the field, a set monster recovery and 5 in hand you have 7 cards. You then activate monster recovery, bringing you down to 6, then shuffle the monster and hand into your deck, draw 5 cards and have 2 less than before.
@@arrownoir"V"irtual You"tuber". Aka, someone streaming while using an animated Avatar instead of their actual Face. Or if an armed dragon line destroyed back row instead of monsters
Not Logs casually chucking in a dig at my favorite Archetype while promoting his agency launch.
Crystal beast are so much fun
You can draw multiple cards with guard penalty: The destiny hero guy (name escapes me) did it in the GX anime by changing a monster to defense position twice with spark blaster
Edo/Aster
In one of the yugioh world championship games I ran a banish focused Obelisk deck using the card Necoface. Necoface is a card that returns all banished cards to their owner's deck and gains stats for each card returned, but if it's sent to the graveyard or banished both players banish the top 5 cards of their deck, so monster recovery was a nice way of using Necoface, getting its effect off, and returning it to my deck so I can use it again when needed
4:40 "the time pot was legal" lmaoooo
I was glad to see barrel behind the door make a cameo here. My only win in any kind of competitive game was an otk where my opponent pulled some crazy first turn shit and pulled blue eyes ultimate dragon, which walked into my set Ring of destruction and barrel behind the door.
I love DuelLogs videos, but this video is like EVEN better because not only is it explained why the card is bad, it also gives you an alternative that is still bad but still way better.
5:19 Idea to make this card better:
Name: Un-Break the Monster
Effect: Target 1 Monster in your GY. If that monster still exists in the GY, shuffle it and your entire hand back into the deck and then you draw the same amount of cards you shuffled. Also after that, your opponent discards an equal amount of cards you drew.
This last part is way too op man
Sorry, your problem.
1:38 Idea to improve this card by just making it apply to changing battle positions in general:
_Position Penalty_
Quick-Play Spell
_For the rest of the turn, each time an opponent’s monster(s) changes battle position, Draw 1 card._
So basically with this, something like “Spark Blaster” (that was in the last video BTW) would effectively become a Pot of Greed.
You know I'm not a vtuber person and I won't watch his new group but I'm kind of proud of him for how far he's come. The guy is a go getter. I don't even think it'll be successful but you gotta appreciate the stamina this guy has for constantly making new channels and working on new ventures.
The Reliable Guardian really needs to see a doctor, those growths in his arm look kinda unhealthy.
He got that mashed potato muscle tone
Early card designers had clearly never seen a bodybuilder in their lives.
(at least, better in early 2000s ritual monster standards which is... not saying much)
But i do agree it could.
If I may, I do want to say this:
You do mention it would be better to run specific Trap cards then these Quick Play Spells.
What if jar robber was buffed to working on any jar or pot of card.
I think it could see some play... but not wide spread. Most jar cards are limited / semi limited and many T1 decks have their own archetypal ways to draw / increase their consistency. I dont see Jars splashed in decks as often as i did before
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring pretty much neutralizes all the Pots and Jars so
@@freyachobibut it doesn’t let you draw a card
5:21 Idea to make this more generic to use:
_Card Recovery_
Quick-Play Spell
_Target any number of cards on the field that you own: Shuffle them and your entire hand into your deck, and if you do, draw cards equal to the number of shuffled cards, and if you draw more than 6 cards, your hand size limit is increased by equal to the number of additional cards for the rest of the duel._
After the farfa modern drama, it's good you clarified the timeline.
I constantly forget "White Hole" exists. It might be one of the most forgettable ygo cards to exist. 😂
I stopped playing after synchros so thanks for the classic cards videos, love your channel
9:58 Idea to amend this card to be better:
_Photon Generator Unit MK.2_
Quick-Play Spell
_Tribute 2 “Cyber” cards from your hand and/or field; Apply 1 of the following effects:_
_⚪️Special Summon (from your hand or deck) 1 Level 5 or lower monster than mentions “Cyber” in its name or Text._
_⚪️Activate 1 (From your Hand or Deck) 1 Spell/Trap that mentions “Cyber” in it’s name or text._
_⚪️Add to your hand, send to your GY or banish 1 card you possess that mentions “Cyber” in its name or text._
A better idea would be to retrain Cyber Laser Dragon into a Link monster. I devised a Link 3 with Y arrows (upper diagonals and straight down) that would retain the spirit of the monster. Before you complain about the Y arrows, here's the effect I had:
2+ "Cyber Dragon"
This card's name is treated as "Cyber Dragon" while on the field or in the GY. This card must be summoned to an Extra Monster Zone. All "Cyber Dragon" monsters you control inflict piercing battle damage. Once per turn, you may activate one of the following effects:
- Banish 1 card this card points to
- Destroy 1 monster on the field with ATK less than or equal to this card.
Because of the line "Must be summoned to an Extra Monster Zone", it cannot be used towards a 3 card Extra Link as the card in the middle without excessive effort to move it after being summoned.
@@azuredragoon2054
Would it be a Machine or Cyberse monster (since you can’t really spell “Cyberse” without Cyber, and the Cyberse and Link types have a lot of interplay anyway.)
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire Machine,of course!
@@taninsuwannatri8411

Ah but if only YuGiOh monsters took a page from Magic or the Pokémon Video Games and had monsters with multiple main types.

Why doesn’t jar robber let you draw 2 for all that effort?
For guard penalty, chain it to labyrinth of nighttime during end phase
Still not good, but it is a niche use
You say ring of defense is bad. But what about when both you and your opponent activate it in response to The Paths of Destiny? Pretty good then
The Pikeru trap is infinitly better and it's not good either.
Reload's card art still goes insanely hard
PS The Reliable guardian has been oh so power crept by Stronghold Guardian, anyways.
What about a top ten for "hidden" combos that arent obvious at first? To make this more clear my first thought is cyber dragon hertz into machine duplication to pull two cyber dragons
I have an idea for guard penalty
What if the card can force a monster from either side to defence position and keep it that till the controlling players next turn but the controller of the monster gets a card draw when the effect resolves.
Also Jar robber should be playable on any pot/jar spell/trap.
i was playing a master duel game a couple months ago and used raigeki the opponent responded with anti raigeki
i was surprised
who in their right mind use a specific counter trap?
I used to play guard penalty all the time in duel links with subterrors
The video is excellent, filled with valuable knowledge ^^
You know what's worse? Burn decks are problematic enough to side deck against in goat, and its clear intent as shown in the anime is to negate the downside of ring of destruction, a very prominent trap card. Did they go that way? No, instead they preferred to chain Mystic wok so you would gain LP instead of losing those while also being a good response to battle traps.
huh. that's interesting. I didn't know Cyber Dragon was Semi Limited at one point.
When the card got released, the community went nuts over it. I remember suddenly everyone had 3 of them in their deck.
Would Soul Reversal be good if it special summons flip monsters face-down? And then flips it face-up?
I would say it would get SOME use... but not a whole lot. Not all decks and rely on flip cards... and the one flip card that i can see this new version can abuse is Pot of the Forbidden... but not all decks can slot that in
Meanwhile, Flip-based archetypes like Subterrors have their own means of recovery... so it may be redundant.
If back in the GX era where Cyberjar was still legal at 1 and the game was really slow... then yea... i can see it being useful for an Empty Jar deck
@@bluedestiny2710 Well, would a Snake Rain for Flip Monsters help in that regard?

When is the video mentioning pre errata darkness approaches/face down attack position?
Can you do a worst deck video about akira zizen from yugioh vrains??
Reliable Guardian would work with SuperHeavy Samurai. Since they can attack while in Defense Position and their Def Points are then used as ATK
Except that the deck doesn't want you using spells or traps, or at the very least ones that you can't remove from the graveyard easily.
@@MFChanical that’s true. I guess you could use it in a pinch
Half are not bad. The quick play people overuse is MST, but even during the early days quick play spells hardly did get enough play.
He didn't mention how some monsters are treated as cyber dragon while on the field
Why is Mirage Tube a spell? It can't be activated from the hand and can only be used when one of your monsters is attacked. And I'm pretty sure you can't use spell cards during your opponent's turn.
Quick-Play Spells were an exception as they can activated similar to Trap Cards.
Ok, so why is reliable guardian a spell card, and not a creature, and also - why he have what looks like an unit patch on his (extremely jacked) arm?
I miss when Pot was legal.
There’s a Marijuana joke in there somewhere, but I’ll pass on the low hanging fruit for once.

Hey duel logs, can you cover the lore behind duel links? It's set after Darkside of dimensions but also serves as post story for the vrains saga?
Reliable Guardian is definitely not a good card, even in the context of Classic Yugioh. But I've just gone on Format Library and searched all Quick-Play Spells from Glad Beast format (last pre synchro format) and there are definitely some worse ones, including:
"A" Cell Scatter Burst
A Deal with Dark Ruler
Combination Attack
Malice Dispersion
Mind Wipe
Tailor of the Fickle
There are a few situational ones that are also pretty bad but could have uses
I'd still want to see a top 10 best cards with umi in the text

I know they hate making decks with one-of’s, but making Jar Robber be like +4 and can only be activated 1 time per duel would be fun in schoolyard

Quick-Plays can be activated during your opponents turn only if you set them face down like trap cards. The Condemned Maiden's effects let you keep them safe in your hand until you need to use them.
@@fireballjoker25fbj28 OH! Well damn! I never knew that, thanks
isnt monster recovery a -1 ? you draw by the amount of card you shuffle so if you have 1 monster & 5card hand, activate monster recovery you shuffle 6 then draw 6 ?
No, monster recovery exclusively states "cards you shuffled from your hand", so with one monster on the field, a set monster recovery and 5 in hand you have 7 cards. You then activate monster recovery, bringing you down to 6, then shuffle the monster and hand into your deck, draw 5 cards and have 2 less than before.

Can everyone shut up for a second? He’s FINALLY gonna become an official vtuber
What the hell is a Vtuber?
@@arrownoir"V"irtual You"tuber". Aka, someone streaming while using an animated Avatar instead of their actual Face.
The "Virtual" part of the Name comes from the fact that originally (ie, if you aren't watching a professionally employed one), the point was that the Avatar gets treated as if they are a real entity who is entirely seperate from the actual Person who is doing the streaming (as they "act out" a different personality while "on camera").
To give a more simplified explanation, imagine a Movie Actor goes to an Interview but stays in-character as whoever they played in the Movie the entire time. VTubers basically do that but as Livestreamers.

You fool! If you combo monster recovery with serpentine princess, it's only a minus one, plus you can summon out sangan for more value! This is surely a good idea and will reshape goat format
Photon Generator Unit had a niche use in an OTK attempt since it could be done in the battle phase. It's still an absolutely terrible card, but I believe that fact should move it down a few rungs on the worst list

11:45 Idea to make a joint retrain of this and “Level Up!”:
_Level-ed Playing Field!_
Quick-Play Spell
_(This card’s name is always treated as “Level Up!” And “Level Down?!”)_
_Banish 1 face-up “LV” monster on the field that you own, then Special Summon 1 monster from Hand, Deck or GY to either player’s field with same name but a different "LV" (ignoring the Summoning conditions)._
That would make it a lot easier to summon stuff like Armed Dragon LV10.
Jar robber needs an update to Change it to Any Pot or Jar draw card.
Would include Jar turtle and Jar of Greed and all the new pot cards

huh? why would having 8 crystal beasts make you unable to summon rainbow dragon when it says it requires 7, which you obviously have & can use?
Because of the way it's worded, you need EXACTLY 7.
