I love just how much they were able to put into Voll's character in half an episode. The writing in this story is really well done, I feel like every episode tugs at my heart
Did you also feel unease when Frieren talked about an old friend who’s supposedly 100 years older than the age his species is expected to live? Did you notice Fern and Stark walking together and laughing in the background? Did you realize how Voll was established as one of the most remarkable characters you’ve seen seconds after seeing him? And then, in a few minutes, you might’ve felt empathy for that very same strong character and wished someone would hug him. Were you also taken aback by the idea of living so long that you don’t even remember the face or voice of the people you loved? The little twist at the end revealing that Voll doesn’t remember the demon king is defeated is heart-wrenching. It definitely feels like he is at the end of his life, but then there’s the slight twist of him being that way since 80 years ago. Moments before Frieren leaves, did you notice the minor signs of happiness on Voll’s face and tone when he talked about seeing her wife’s dream? Frieren isn’t just good; you might even say not much happens in the story or that the dialogue and the jokes aren’t anything new. But there is something about the little twists, minor signs, simple happenings, and slight nods laid throughout every conversation and sub-story, each implying something usually deeper that, when added up together like this, makes up something special.
Yeah, I saw so many reactors miss the reason why Fern asked Sein how long Dwarves live. It's to establish that Voll isn't just old, he's literally at the edge of his life old. Like meeting a 110 year old human in real life, they aren't supposed to be alive anymore, so you know they're on borrowed time.
Dementia is the cruelest disease in the world. It makes you forget the people you love. In South Korea, there's an anecdote about dementia. An old woman visited a police station and couldn't remember her child's name, but she said she had to give him something. She was holding a lunchbox for her child.

The reason why Frieren didn't continue to say they defeated the Demon King is that, it's Voll's duty to protect the village. If he knew, then he wouldn't protect the village anymore, thus not continuing to fulfill his wife's wish, to protect her beloved village.
I don't think thats true, there's always monsters around, Voll is protecting the village of his wife, It would't matter if the demon king is dead. Frieren simply saw no point in correcting him after she realized he's actually going senile.
Frieren just knows how to tell a story!
1 week break then onto the 2nd half of the season!
