    New window regulators. Plastic components on the regulators can become brittle over time and fall apart. Hence the cables not being secured. The components that make up door parts are very often plastic, which is brittle and of cheap manufacture. Thus, while an expensive car, pickup...SUV, vibration , heat cold cycles, simple operation will cause such plastic as brittle, crack failure. And, dealer supply can be spotty, difficult cost. And, not every owner can afford the labor cost to replace and renew such mechanical +electrical function.
    So, while all the exterior and interior components were in place, some prior owner disabled the movement to simply...closed.
    Your finding, will be repeated more often as this type of manufacture continues. And be sure to stock up on the plastic push tabs that hold the lower quadrant. They break or simply fail to fully engage.
    Thanks for the post. An interesting repair problem to work thru.

    The black gooey sealant on the plastic moisture/dust barrier is from the factory and if pulled off metal door carefully can be reused/reapplied. There are many extended cab pickups or quad cabs that have back windows that are inoperable for various reasons. Because they are seldom used or mostly operated by children in rear seat they are not a priority. So...if the rear door window actuators or cables do break and the windows cannot stay up on their own, this is a cheap and effective way to keep windows from dropping down or water leaking in from rain. But if you are selling a vehicle and you know this is how your windows are supported you should inform the buyer of the problem.

    Nothing to be confused 🤔 about . The window regulator broke on both sides . They new they were selling the truck so they just wanted to get the windows up to sell the truck ... .. just get a new window regulator and motor for both doors. .. you can get some spray silicone in a can and spray your driver's window tracks where the window glides up and down . This will allow the window NOT to get stuck or go slow in some spots . Spray all the window track and run the windows up and down a few times .. . Works perfect 💯💥

    The back window Regulators on these year serria and silverados I'd say from 2000- 2006 are Notorious for breaking.I have fixed tons of them at a shop I use to work for but once they are fixed they seem to hold up for a long time.
    I would highly recommend you buy the Regulator with the motor together
    Don't use the old motor.
    You can find step by step videos on TH-cam how to remove and install a whole new set
    It's alot easier then it looks once you complete the first one you will see.
    Now for the front driver window it sounds like the motor is going bad or being over loaded from not being grease.
    I would buy some dry lube and spray the tracks down first normally that frees them. up

    FYI- the bead of black adhesive holding the plastic sheet on is done at the factory and the idea is that you can ‘delicately’ peel of the plastic for repairs and then reseal it. That is as long as the adhesive stays pliable.

  • @ceescorner

    This is done when someone can't afford to replace the regulator & motor assembly

Went with the China because I was trading the truck in within a year. When the part was installed sometimes when I started the truck the drivers window went down. When I put it up it would automatically come down. I would have to restart the truck to stop it. Sometimes it wouldn't go down. sometimes the rear windows wouldn't work. Replace window tracks they come with new motors. 4 bolts super easy to do

    • @timothymorris1210
      @timothymorris1210 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its actually like 9 bolts if you count the three that hold the motor in place and the two that attach the window to it.

  • @MrTimdtoolman1
    @MrTimdtoolman1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They didn't want to spend the money to fix the problem so the disconnected the motors and scotched the windows up. Just get yourself 2 new window regulators on ebay and install them and your good. Could have been a whole lot worse I guess. Yes it a hack job but you have the skills to fix it cheap enough and be thankful they didn't cut all of the wiring. LOL!!!!

  • @jamminjay
    @jamminjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Temporary fix until you can get the part, but to put wood shims, then button it all back up is ridiculous! I hillbilly rigged the windows in my Tahoe with tape so they wouldn't keep falling down until I got around to fixing it. Fortunately those motors aren't too expensive and pretty easy to install.

    Planned obsolescence. Window regulators are a joke on most newer vehicles. So are the switches! Newer GM and Chrysler ones are VERY bad. Most parts store replacements are worse than factory original. I'd be tempted to wedge a good working one shut if I never used it... just so I don't have to worry about it failing in the down position. One's I've personally seen fail too early: '95 Camaro, '00 Camaro, '98 Grand Prix, '05 Impala (same as Grand Prix,) '13 Ram, '16 Ram... I could go on. By contrast, I've had an '88 RX-7 with 220k miles. Original window regulators. Gear stripped at 165k miles in '06, replaced with a gear from the JY from an '86 626 sedan. They knew how to build them a bit more robust back then; glass fiber reinforced plastic instead of nyloil. It wore out but at least it still worked till I could find a replacement gear.

    Why you want windows up???? Because when it rains, water comes in your truck🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️ I GUESS YOU DONT WORK ON CARS VERY OFTEN! The guy could’ve being in a bind and didn’t have time or money. He open the doors to check like you did because his windows were stuck open. Realized the window regulators were trashed, parts store close, raining, etc. You have to do what you to do. Make it work and move on…! Get to it when you can. Sometimes life gets in the way, you know!!!

    I had a piece of crap 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix and I got tired of paying for window repair plus I tried myself. It was junk GM window actuators. On all the windows. It was a nightmare car. Everything kept going out and it had just over 100K. Worst lemon ever. Even tried an exorcist. Then I did the stick-in-the-door trick...sold it cheap and told the happy buyer all that was wrong with the car. He was still happy to get a cheap car, I was happy to get rid of the piece of crap, and I slept well that night 🌃 So now you know why you don't see crappy Grand Prixs' on the road. They died and went to hell. The End...

    This may look weird from a NON technician standpoint, but this is a completely acceptable, (and temporary) “ repair”.
    I was a general line technician for Ford dealerships for 16 years, and saw this kind of stuff ALL the time.
    If a guy owns a 4 door truck, and doesn’t care about the rear windows, why blow $500+ on parts and labor?
    Believe it or not, most folks have neither the tools and/or the technical ability to do a job like this, (and some may not have the money either), so why blow $500 (both sides) on this repair when a temporary repair will work just fine.

    Wow all this over a peice of wood? Can you not think of annnnny reason for wood to be there? Millenials? ---If they took out the windows to tint them and could not reinstall correctly. Don't you think the front would not work? XXXXX OK I guess you have not been poor enough not to have $100 to spend on a regulator/ motor combo. Often the failure causes the window to drop. You can't secure a vehicle with an open window. So you prop it.To sell it that way without disclosure, BAD. To have not gotten one asap, new or used is BAD. OK so now we know the probable why. Was that so hard to at least understand? Would definitely be upset about it though. No disclosure. If mechanic had to fix it possible $500 repair, MAD.

    They didn’t “take the time to adhesive this”. That is stock gorilla stock (mastic). That’s the way all car door insulation comes from the factory.
    Regulator/motor assembly.
    Either purchase new, Rock Auto is a good inking parts store. Or you to Pick n Pull. The good thing about this option is that you can practice taking them out. You can test if they go up down by taking an 12 or 24v battery with you and some leads.
