Nah, it's just manga and anime creator working conditions are **crap** and their editors are without mercy.
I've read that on occasion they sometimes were still working on anime episodes AS the episode was being aired because they're always so far behind. (Back when DBZ was airing)
Fun fact- Super Saiyan's blond hair? Akira made that up solely so his art staff could save time coloring Goku's hair when the manga was being made. One of the most iconic features in all of fiction was a glorified corner-cutting technique.
With this in mind, it's hardly surprising they had to create time whenever they could to fill in the gaps, Akira in an interview expressed that he was kinda shocked how long the characters stood around doing nothing in the anime.

1. Because adding up all the energy on Earth in the way I did is so small in comparison to what you could get from a Dyson sphere-like harnessing of the sun, this is more or less a calculation of sun energy/time.
2. I have no idea how energy is supposed to transfer, or what kind of energy, so I went with a basic assumption: chemical energy bound up in the living matter and chemical/nuclear energy that could be harnessed from fossil fuels/nuclear material. If King Kai meant something else, like pure, E=mc^2 energy, then the time and resources would drop dramatically.

I'm not doubting your math, actually i think it's pretty detailed going by the model you assumed. however, if Goku were to gather energy the way you describe, by simply absorbing the whole energy of all biomatter, fossil fuel and so on, wouldn't he basically comsume earth in order to save earth?
The way i understood it from the anime was that he takes minimal ammounts of energy from everything (presumably in order to, well, not kill everything and everyone in the process) to form the Genki Dama.

The energy The spirit Bomb uses is the same energy as the all the other blasts in the show and the same energy as the transformations. They use ki, it's basically the life force of the whole universe in the show, much like The force in star wars, except they turn it into physical beams that can disintegrate you if pushed hard enough.

Well the spirit bomb takes as much energy as you can let it take, The longer it is held the more energy can be taken and form into the bomb, I mean if a regular human gives most of his energy he would at least be extremely tired as it was shown in the Anime. But so far we've seen a universal spirit bomb and no one was killed by giving energy. If you consider the video games then the strongest we've seen was a time warped Spirit bomb is what I like to call it. And if you consider DBS, the last remaining humans including Goku and Vegeta, along with the remains of a almost earth gave enough energy to destroy an immortal being. It's honestly hard to say.
I mean, he meant none of these things. He meant a mystical energy called Chi/Ki/Qi, which is most likely not real, and you *definitely* can't do scientific calculations with it xD

Doing it is as physically possible as an invulnerable man flying, but that's a good question.
Hopefully by November he covers that along with my inquiry about how much force does it take to super jump, like when he was trying to fly and could just leap 200ft up like nothing.
Assuming that all energy used to fly comes from the angular momentum of the earth, he would have to at least match the angular momentum of the earth (L = 2/5 * m_earth*r^2 * w; r is the radius of the earth, w is the angular velocity 1/day, m is the mass of the earth). Using wikipedia numbers and assuming uniform density for easy math, the angular momentum of the earth is about 4*10^30 kg*m^2/hr. Now, assuming that superman weighs as much as the average human, is flying relatively close to the surface, and can be treated as a point mass, he as angular momentum 4*10^30 = L = m_man*r*V where V is the supermans velocity. Final number crunch gives 9*10^24 km/hr or 2.5*20^24 m/s. The speed of light is 3.0^10^8 m/s so that answer is nonsense in reality, so we'd have to take relativistic effects into account, and it is so close to the speed of light that i got an underflow error on my calculator and it just says hes going 3*10^8 m/s.

I'm not sure about this but i don't think his speed would change anything...
let's say he's in space at like 500 km altitude, he would slow down the earth at a veeeeeerrrrryy low rate wether he's immobile or flying in the opposite direction of earth rotation. If there's no friction, it doesn't matter.
Now, if he is in the atmosphere i guess his speed would matter because of air friction, but the dissipation of energy would be ridiculously low. (and that's considering the newtonian law of physics doesn't apply to him, since he can accelerate in space without anything propelling him. if they do apply, his motion is pointless)
VERITAS technically the flash has already ran so fast he was able to go back into the past so yeah. You could say he reversed the earth. So superman would have to fly as fast as the flash could run.

If that's the case then he should fly around the earth in the direction of earth's rotation to slow down the earth. (like he has a rigid lever connected to earth and he's pushing on it to accelerate himself), otherwise he would accelerate earth rotation.

Hi , i Think you are missing out something, those are the values that would take a HUMAN to chage an spirit bomb, but this is Goku, so you need to consider the insane amount of energy that Goku adds to the equation, besides of the other Z warriors. actually in Majin boo saga, before Mr Satan speaks to the whole word, the amount of energy that the z warrios give to Goku creates a pretty decent Genki Dama.
The other thing that would have to be taken into account is similar to the lightsaber wielding episode in regards to be able to hold that power so close would probably be to violent that you would vaporize instantly. Love you Kyle, you make science that much more cool!!

Ok one BIG problem. You keep referring to the spirit bomb Goku used on Frieza and used the quote from King Kai that it can destroy the planet. Well the one Goku charged up against Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga would match that description, but the one he used against Frieza should be MUCH stronger. Goku was charging it up based on how powerful Frieza was. Frieza in his first form, with a power level of 530,000, destroyed planet Vegeta with ease (also bare in mind planet Vegeta has ten times the mass of earth). Frieza at 50% of his final form had a power level of 60,000,000, which is 113 times more powerful than his first form. In other words Frieza has the capability of destroying a dwarf star, and Goku needed to charge enough power in the Spirit bomb to destroy dwarf star level final Frieza. So you might need to recalculate some things bud.

The Spirit Bomb's original name is Genki Dama which roughly translates to Origin Ki Sphere. This is important because Genki, as a concept, is ancient and referenced once in an interview with Akira Toriyama as 1/3 of the components of Ki as a whole. Genki essentially refers to the basest bits of energy in the universe, present in all forms of matter, living and non-living.

This completely depends on what Gundam is in question, Gundams like Turn A and 00 have unlimited energy.
There are also lots of fictional particles with fictional effects like Minovsky and GN particles which provide thrust in fictional ways.

There was one thing left out from the calculations: at what point in Goku's timeline is this particular Spirit Bomb being charged?
There are two key moments in DBZ one could draw from: 1. The Spirit Bomb used against Frieza, and 2. The Spirit Bomb used against Kid Buu.
With the Frieza fight's Spirit Bomb, Goku had only just recently learned how to use the technique, having only used it in a fight once before, against Vegeta. His ability to contact and draw energy was limited only to planet Namek itself and Namek's sun.
With the Kid Buu fight's Spirit Bomb, Goku had been training in the technique for a lot longer and he had learned how to contact beings from literally the entire cosmos. As a friend of mine once said, "He had a much bigger address book".
