I usually run up to 12km without any fluids, but i'm looking for a lightweight solution to carry some water for the hotter wheater coming up and a half marathon attempt. Thanks for the video, it gives an idea of what's on the market. Surprised by the big volumes doh, people must do a lot of ultrarunning i guess!
Which one is best
I bought the cheapest vest on Amazon, an Aonijie. It's not as breathable as my old CamelBak and it's a little heavier, but it's comfortable, quality is decent and costs 1/4 of most of the other similar vests. Great for us poor runners.

Thanks for the suggestion & endorsement. This is one of my favorite channels so I hate to say negative things but most of these are WELL out of my running gear budget (I'm cheap about shoes and other kit too).
@@TischTosh yeah, it's a problem with a lot of TH-cam running channels. A $120 vest or $80 headlamp aren't "budget" options
I have this in my basket and have been umming and ahing about it for months, but I think I'll finally buy it now :) I haven't had one before so I can't make a comparison so hoping that's a positive
@@clareb5684 I would recommend buying some softflasks too as the vests do not come with any.
I simply steal other people’s water while on a run. That little speed burst does wonders for your overall time as well.
I'm going to get you one of these days.

Ah, this explains why Sarah was wearing different vests during her one month of Garmin suggested workouts video. I bought a Harrier Stanage XL being a "larger than your average bear" person. Very impressed but I'd like a lighter weight version with just mesh back too.

I've had an evadict for a year or so and it's the only I use for long runs on road and trail and love it!! Decathlon is my go to for any equipment

Great review, would have liked to hear about bounce issues on any of the vests especially with water filled
I have the Harrier Curbar - its a great piece of kit, really well thought through in terms of design.
Harrier Stanage for me, fantastic vest. Tons of pockets and storage space, extremely comfortable.
Recently got my first pack from ultimate direction and I am loving it, even if it was a bit pricey. Thanks for the other suggestions, having someone else’s opinion is always nice for these types of purchases.

That Montane vest looks really cool! I’ve been using the Salomon Advanced Skin 8 since the beginning of 2021 and I’ve been loving it more than my original vest, the Nathan Vaperhowe.
I recently purchased a Harrier Stanage 10L vest after trying a more lightweight one from Salomon which was quite a snug fit. The Harrier though comes in a wider range of sizes and I've found it very comfortable over several longer runs. There are plenty of pockets and although I've not made much use of the pocket at the rear I know it is spacious enough to carry enough kit for runs much longer than I am currently doing. I've been very happy with it. As for the Salomon, well due to the snug fit I struggle to carry more than a drink and snack so I'll be saving that for shorter trail runs until I lose a bit more weight.
Great reviews - there are so many vests out there to choose. My favorite now is my Patagonia "Slope Runner Endurance Vest".
I have had the Harrier Curbar 5l for around 18months, simply amazing 👏 I have also upgraded to the stanage 10l which I wore on a recent 100miler and it didn't disappoint. I've had loads of pack's over the years from such brands I've Ultimate Direction, Solomon, camelbak and I can say Harriers kit has won hands down for quality, price and customer service it second to none, a brand of the future for sure

Personally, I'm really happy with the Deuter Streamer 2.0. By far the best one out of everything I've tried so far, as reservoirs go. I typically combine it with my Ultimate Direction AK mountain vest.
I've been using the bike packs from USWE for my long runs, and I really like the compactness of those packs! I now entirely omit the 2L bladder, and use my newly bought Salomon 500mL soft flask instead. I do however need to take the back pack of when I need a drink, but that's okay for now. Maybe I will spend the money on a USWE Pace 4 vest in the near future (who knows). ;) Thanks for the upload. Good stuff, as always xD
For 10 miles or over runs, especially in the warmer weather, I do need water. I've always used a cheap, day-rucksack with a basic water bottle in it. I can slide it off, open it, drink and put it back on whilst trotting along. I also have a Nike bottle-belt that I use in hot weather for runs of an hour or so but the belt needs to be relatively tight so makes 'rolls' in my chubby male mid-riff! (Not an attractive sight for the general public). Oh to be 35 years younger and thinner!! I agree about the high price of some of this kit but if you are running longer distances and on trails then it probably makes sense. For my long runs, 10 miles to half-marathon, I can make do with a low cost rucksack and a plastic water bottle until a cheaper option comes along. Bought a Salomon Advanced Skin 12 backpack for my 1,5+ hour runs last year and I really like it. Lots of storage, really comfortable and decent quality. Just prefer to run without it with higher temperatures when the run isn’t too long. Just make sure to drink enough before and after the training.

I own the evadict one but in 5l and I love it.
I have the EVADICT and love it. Have done several HMs with it as well as shorter trail runs. Coming with the bladder at that price point was the decider for me.

Harrier vests are good I went for the 10 litre size as it’s bigger and I’m very tall. Very comfortable and a great price

I have recently purchased the Decathlon 10l one as I am doing my first ultra next year but didn’t want to spend £100+ on something I wasn’t sure about. It might not be as stylish as some of the others but I really like it! It’s got loads of room and is comfortable. I was considering getting a “better” once once I had done a few runs but this one is ideal for longer runs and hiking so I don’t feel I need to now.
I also have another cheap vest from Amazon that is Anoijie. Again bought on a budget when I first started using a vest. But it’s really good and haven’t felt the need to “upgrade” at all. It’s light and has lots of space for what I need. I always use a vest as I carry phone, inhaler, tissues even on shorter runs and I hate anything round my waist so this is great for that and for mid length runs I can take my fuel and bladder for fluid :)
I have a UD Race and Mountain vest, I found that they're more comfortable when both the front and back are loaded, so if you're only taking water, maybe not the best for you! I'll be buying the UD Fastpack 20 soon for longer adventures and for running to and from my other hobby, climbing!
The Camelbak Lobo is perfect for me. I live in Colorado and the weather can change quickly so. The little bit of storage is perfect for. Running sleeves, buff and gloves also the Patagonia Houdini if needed. I mostly trail run so Band-Aids and disinfectant are nice to bring along if I take a spill. Longer excursions require snacks so the pack can be quite stuffed sometimes. Even filled up it's really comfortable. It's perfect for me, I'll always have it when I'm on the trail.

I have the Evadict one and I think it’s great value for money! You can reposition all the straps on the front to get the fit just right. As well as being great for holding water and snacks on my long runs, the back compartment is big enough that it can fit all my swimming gear in so I can run to and from my local pool. So it’s probably good for people who run-commute too 👍

I absolutely love my Ultimate Direction, i think it's the Adventure Vesta? Light, comfortable, no bounce, plenty of room for emergency kit, and $59 on clearance with soft flask!

I love the Ultimate direction race vest. I can get up to 3 liters of water in it plus a rain jacket, several snacks and my phone, but it only weighs 5.4 oz when empty

I have got a Utobest vest that I don’t feel like I’m wearing even whilst I’m in training for a half marathon in August and October. I carry 1 Utobest bottle, wallet and keys and there is still space for more. It is a really competitive price.
After watching this video, I am going to have to test out the Montane Gecko! Since we are entering the summer season. I am going to try trading out my tops for the vest and maybe create some new tan lines, looking like some cinnamon toast crunch cereal.
Highly recommend Hinataa Aonijie hydration vest. Excellent value for money and better than the Invo8 which is highly overpriced.
I use both a Solomon active belt and spibelt with water bottles. Great for anything up to 32km but beyond that I use a bladder pack on my back or it'll be an event with water stops.
My go to vest for trail runs is actually from REI. It has a 1.5 liter bladder and elastic pockets on the front for goodies; I haven't tried putting any soft flasks in the front pockets as I haven't needed the additional water. One thing I love most is that none of the straps are elastic but are still easily adjustable. I've had too many elastic closures dry out and stretch out on hiking backpacks, so I wanted to avoid them.

I have got an Inov-8 Race Ultra Pro 5. The reason i bought this Vest was that it has plenty of pockets (in front) and it is able to carry Water in 3 different(!) ways. It fits nice and snug, though some complain about it is too tight. Well... i have one in Mens S and it could be a little be tighter, although i am just in the middle of the Sizing Chart. I like that it comes with 2 500ml Bottles incl. long straws and a foldable cup (well... if i am honest, theres a great chance i will never need a foldable cup B-)).
I have the dura brilliant bit of kit.
using a raidlight vest,chafe free and minimum bounce.that's my go to criteria.can't get enough of h20
One brand I'm surprised didn't make the list is Nathan. When I was looking for a vest last summer/fall, they were one of the brands (along with Ultimate Direction and Osprey) I saw everywhere and were almost always well-reviewed.

I usually trade a vest for a hand bottle depending on the run.
Can someone out there please invent a Backpack Bra? Something like the brooks pocket bra or the lululemon one, but with more storage and capable of being worn on its own as a top? Water bottle and gel room in front and a big enough pack in the back to carry an ice pack or additional food for long runs? Please and thank you.
Love the channel but when doing these kinds of videos that include prices could you include € as well as £ and $. Lots of viewers in Ireland (and other eurozone countries as well I'm sure). Keep up the great work.

Thank you. I live trail running in the norwegian mountains with my dog, and that can require a fair bit of kit for the both of us to stay safe into autumn and winter. How much weight is it comfortable to carry in a vest?
Each vest has a designed capacity, so it can carry up to that amount and should be comfortable to wear. All the vests and packs we tested were really comfortable and had minimal bounce whilst running 😀

I think Nathan Sports Race Packs are pretty good.
I love how the running channel are pushing for 500K subs at 294K. Most channels would be pushing for 300K but running channel does it different and says fuck 300K, fuck 400K I want half a milli 😂

What's the best way to clean these once they get sweaty? Mine is kinda gross at the moment but. I don't want to damage it during the cleaning process.
Check if the pack has a label which can tell you if it’s machine washable or hand wash only :) Would you like to see a hydration pack cleaning video?

I don't really think that they are necessary as long as you hydrate before and after a run. although it may be necessary if you are doing something over 35k.

Anyone attach drinks to their freetrain vest?
J'ai eu un camelbak ultra 10 L, fermeture éclair qui se casse. Un camelbak ultra pro dont les coutures lachent. Les deux ne tiennent pas au corps malgré la plus petite taille. Ils n'ont vraiment pas une coupe ergonomique. Pour le vélo ça va, mais pas pour le jogging. J'ai acheté un sac instinct evolution 7 de bien meilleure qualité et bien ventilé. Du coup j'ai repris dans la même marque mais de plus petite contenance : PX 3.1 L

I have one! Great option for an affordable beginner vest! Used it for a few half marathons and for my first marathon recently! Including all the training runs. Great sized pockets, held my four gels, phone, portable phone charger, tissues, earphones, 1L bladder and could have easily held more.
Comfortable but definitely started to rub on the inner parts of my arms by mile 22 but it was a hot day and didn’t have any issues in training!

Yes, I run a trail of 100km with Kalenji 10L and very happy with that. The bladder and flasks have a good quality. And a lot of space for putting your stuff in the vest. 1 point I am not 100% satisfied is the system for fasten the poles: the poles are not tight enough.
I’ve never seen Tarahumara/Rarámuri runners carrying their own water.
The products are all so ugly
