I just got mine today (Oct 16 2023) online and thank´s to this video i now know what to expect. Funny thing is i got it for €116 and Salomon is selling it for €160. Loved your video man. Big, fat LIKE all the way from Spain. Keeo it up.
great review. looking to size down from an REI flash 22 to this for day hikes. Seems perfect! room for consumables and emergency items with good access
The lesser known French brand Instinct is my favorite. They have different variants, all of which accommodate 600ml+ bottles, with a lot of useful pockets that are even waterproof on the larger vests. You should do a review on this brand.
One major improvement from the previous version is the way the flasks can be put back in the vest. The previous version was a big struggle to put then back in. It's much facilitated here, I suppose from larger construction or more flexible material
I just got my ADV Skin 5 yesterday. I really like it. It has plenty of space for what I carry and not having the bladder pushing the middle of my back is nice. It’s more locked down than my Nathan and also more comfortable.
As always, excellent review Loyd. I've used the heck out of my Adv Skin 8 and I was wondering about upgrading to the 12. Your review clinched it for me. I agree 100 percent with you that using the flasks is way better than a bladder. Really liked how you demonstrated the front and back storage for poles. When it's late in a 100K or above and your messing around with your poles it's just using up your energy getting irritated. Definitely can't wait to get this pack. Thanks again for your great work Loyd. See you at UTMB.
Thanks Steve, really glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. It's a really good update to an already great vest! Definitely see you out at UTMB, not long now 😲 Thanks for watching 🙏
The bottles with the wider opening have caused some irritation on my chest - I went back to those with the narrower opening because I do not 'feel' the smaller lid. Yes, I admit, it takes about 3-5sec longer to fill them.
That's great to hear that you're enjoying your Salomon vest Adeline! Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment, it's appreciated 🙏😊
I think that they should have put the key clip in a different spot as the top right stuff pocket is not the best spot for it. Eg Car keys tend to be bulky and that is just uncomfortable and can easily fall out of it. The previous versions of the packs have the bungie cables as well for poles. My old version of the advanced skin 5 set has them as well.
You're right about the Key loop placement Nicole. Car keys can be pretty big nowadays so it might have been better somewhere else. As far as the bungees go, I think it depends when you bought your vest. I got my as soon as the pervious version came out and I never had any bungees, it was something Salomon added later 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Thanks for the review on the new version , very much appreciated. Very detailed as always. I have the old one which my son now uses, so time to get myself this one.
My first vest purchase was 2018 and was the Adv skin 12, I still use that vest till this day, I just recently purchased the Sense Pro 5 as I needed something for shorter adventures and wanted some flasks with wider openings, I love this vest, so much so I’m considering upgrading my current Adv 12 to the new model, only thing making that decision hard is my old one is still in great condition 🤷🏼♂️
I totally agree, the previous version is a brilliant running vest Dean. I'd say, if yours is still going strong then you probably don't need to upgrade just let 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I would stick with the old version. The new version has easier to access through pockets at the back but at the expense of smaller front pockets. I didnt struggle to access the pockets but if you do then maybe upgrade. The top jacket pocket takes space from the main pocket.
Just found you Loyd but I’ve loved all your videos so far! Best reviews on TH-cam and enjoyed your UTMB race vid too! I’m about to go pick this Salomon vest up for myself
Great review. I have exactly the same issue as you wrt to the quiver. It’s a nice idea but the throat is too narrow. I’m always faffing around to get poles in/out which is a PITA. Decided to mount them on the front of my ADV SKIN 8 pack but am looking at the 12L for a new longer distance pack alternative. The comfort is amazing in my 8L and you forget you are wearing it !!
Thanks for that love my salomon vest had a smaller one years so decided to upgrade to this one and will look forward to this one for longer runs ,found mine on wiggle for £97 pounds 😊
Another great, in depth, review Lloyd. I bought this vest a couple of months ago for the SDW100 after trying the Harrier 10l pack. Unfortunately, I then got injured so haven't been able to use it on a run yet. I returned the harrier vest because the front pockets were not big enough for my dogs bungee lead and as he's my main running partner that was crucial. Also the ease of access to get into the main compartment is much better on the Salomon as the zip runs down the side instead of having to access from the top. Overall it just felt like a much better pack and I didn't find the Harrier any better than the previous pack I had from decathlon. Keep up the good work 👍
Sorry to hear you're injured Craig and I hope you're on the road to recovery! The Salomon vest is a brilliant bit of kit and it has so much accessibility when it comes to storage. To be fair to the Harrier vest it is a lot more affordable than the Adv Skin 12 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
The back pockets are fine. I hate the front pocket layout. Also not a fan of the cord system to clip it on. The soft flask pockets work semi well until your soft flasks are half empty.
Just received one today. It's not only Saucony trail shoes we seem to agree on. I couldn't figure out where the poles went. Sorted now 👍. The Salomon video was also really good.
I tried a different vest from Salamon, it was a great bit of kit but the sizing just wasnt very good for me. In the end I switched to a Harrier Stanage 10L which I found to be a much better fit. I would love to see Salamon produce a slightly bigger size in the XL.
The Salomon vest do size quite small Jon and it would be good to see Salomon introduce a XXL maybe. I'm glad the Harrier vest fits well, it's a good option 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Ooh new vest! I have sworn by the Adv skin 12 for years and absolutely love it! Showing signs of wear and even had the sewing machine out, but it’s still going strong. Maybe time for a upgrade!?…
If you're a big fan of the Adv Skin 12 then I'm sure you'll enjoy the updated version 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Looks like they managed to make an already fantastic vest even better. I have the previous version and love it. Was perfect for the South West Traverse.
The Harrier Kinder 10L is a brilliant and great value race vest John 👍 Really glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Seems they made amendments to the old model since you got yours as when I bought mine last year it had the bungees on it for poles and also came with the wider opening flasks. Definitely doesn't seem any point me upgrading any time soon. Cheers
I got one of the first Advance Skin 12's and you're right they did add the bungess and the wider bottles about a year afterwards 👍 I'd say if your current vest is still going strong there's no need to upgrade. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Came here to see exactly how the bladder clip works, but that was brushed over (maybe it’s supposed to be straightforward, I’m not using a Salomon bladder)
The new one comes with an additional top stuff ocket that you don't get on the older model. To be honest, they're both great hydration vests Gus 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
I'm not sure you understand what I mean Harry. I understand you can do that but that still means you have to take the bladder out to check. I meant monitoring your fluid intake while you're running, it's a lot easier with your flasks on the front of your pack or vest because you can pull the flask out and have a look 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
Thanjs very much I'm glad you thought so. It's a really good version of the Adv Skin 12, you wouldn't be dissapointed 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
well my experience with salomon.... never acctually liked this brand but with recent issues im done with it. two salomon vests, two defects in like 20 days apart. one active skin 8 stiches went apart, one adv skin 12 flask compartment at the bottom stiches just snapped and now there is a big hole and flask just slide through it. if any1 re reading this post please do know that im bit unlucky with that but man, this fells horrible. will be returning this one aswel and hopefully now the shop will return my money.
Sorry to hear this! 😕 I’ve had the latest version of the Adv Skin 12 for a while now and I’ve run a lot of training and race miles in it. It’s still going strong and I’ve had no issues at all? It sounds like you’ve been very unlucky, surely the shop will refund your money 👍
great review, ty sir. I had a Q re the bladder, if you do choose to go with the bladder option, is there something on the vest to secure the hose so it doesn't flap around when you are not drinking from it?
Thanks for the great review. You mention that a bladder is not great to use, but I've run Ultra Marathons in heat conditions where carrying 3L of water at a time is mandatory - what size bladder can you get into this pack?
Thanks Chad, glad you enjoyed the video. It's a great update to a brilliant vest, hope you enjoy yours! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏😊
You mentioned and showed a dry-bag as well that fits in this one, do you have a brand and size that you recommend? Just did my first test with the Salomon Adv 12 (arrived yesterday! 🎉) and it’s really great!
4:27 which waterproof jacket are you using here? I am struggling to find a rain jacket with taped seams that is not too bulky, and can actually fit in that top pocket. I feel like I'm going crazy because all the reviews mention putting a jacket there.
There’s lots of waterproof jackets out there that pack down small enough to go in the top pocket 👍 SAYSKY Flow jacket INOV8 Stormshell SALOMON Bonatti RONHILL Mercurial ASICS Fujitrail Hope this helps! 👍
I recently bought Adv skin 5 to replace my old one which I love but has a good bit of wear and tear. I haven't taken the tags off the new one yet as I'm not convinced the new model sizes the same. I guess with first model it also felt tight initially. The new model feels less comfortable. Hopefully I'm only imagining it. I may return it and upgrade to the adv skin 12, although my events are generally 50k ultras
A new running pack will always feel a bit more fitted compared to an old one. I've got a medium in the previous version and the latest version and the sizing feels the same to me 🤔 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel Damo 🙏
Hi thanks for your great in-depth review. I just bought one with the help of your valuable info! As a starting trail runner, I see a lot of people having some cloth on their wrist. Is it a buff that you have taken off your neck there and put in on your wrist at 12m:10s in this video or is it something else and what is the purpose? Thanks in advance!
No problem, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It is a buff around my wrist but it’s not just any buff, it’s a Run4adventure buff that are available in our merch store! Thanks for watching 🙏 www.run4adventure.uk/merch/multiwraps
I noticed the newer/revised version bladder compartment is near to the back ( honeycomb part ) unlike the previous version is at the middle compartment if that make sense, do correct me if im wrong
I went for the Salomon S/LAB Ultra 10 vest but the flasks keep falling into the pocket once 40% empty, even with the elastic loop properly set. Never had that issue with the Skin pro 2... Did you experience that, ever? I wouldn't want the same issue with the ADV Skin 12
Great video mate, I've got the adv skin 8 and sense 10 big fan of them both. Always fancied the adv skin 12 but can't justify it with the 2 vests over got haha! I agree with speed flasks they give me bruised ribs but I still use them because the other ones I have are the ones with the tiny openings. So I'll see if I can buy those ones separately 😊
Salomon make some great running vest that's for sure! You can buy the new wide bottles separately and they are a lot more comfortable than the Speed flasks 😊 Thanks for watching mate 🙏
Thanks for your comprehensive review. just an opinion of mine, kindly avoid product review on a black in future. it is really difficult for viewers see the product. anyway brilliant & detail review. cheers
No problem Rebs 👍 I'd always go for the Salmon Adv Skin 12. It's been my go to race vest for years. The Inov-8 vest is good but the Salomon has a little bit more accessible storage. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
Great video. Can you provide any information on how much the water bottles/vest cause bouncing? I recently tried a vest and the bouncing was way too much to where I had to return it. I'm hoping this isn't a standard thing. Thank you for any info you can provide! 🙏
You get very little movement at all with the Salomon Adv Skin 12 vest. Maybe a little bit when your flask are full up but you hardly notice it. A lot of movement from bottles can come from gettin the wrong sixe a running pack, if it's to big it will bounce all over the place. What running a k did you try and send back? 🤔
Hi. Thanks for the lovely video. I have question. I got an unisex adv skin 12 recently. I used for 5-6 times and hand-washed it with natural soap every time. I noted the “Salomon” logo print on the flask pocket is coming off. Did it happen to yours too? Thanks.
No problem, glad you enjoyed the video. I’ve had my Adv Skin 12 for about a year now and I’ve hand washed it lots of times and all the Salomon logos are still on the vest? 🤔
@@jonnychantl it personally wouldn’t bother me because it’s not going to affect how the vest performs but you can try and contact Salomon or the shop you bought it from 👍
I'm looking to upgrade my vest. Salomon adv 12 or ultimate direction ultra or mountain vest. The Salomon is a little heavier than both ultimate direction vests. Two questions, is the ultimate direction ultra vest big enough for 100 milers and do you still prefer the salomon adv 12? Thanks!
Not a massive difference, its more like an update than a complete change. I did mention in the review that you still get the insulted bladder sleeve 👍 Hope thins helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Thoughts on this vs the Aonijie Moderate Gale 12l? Basically a copy of the Salomon at just over half the price here in SA. Granted without bottles or sleeve.
I haven't ever run in the Aonijie pack so it's hard to say? It looks like pretty good value but just because they've copied Salomon doesn't mean its going to run the same! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated Luan 🙏😊
@@juleso2604 I even get my small sized glasses for birdwatching sometimes out on the trail, even this can be stored at the front - cant have enough good words about the the ADV 12
How easy is it to RE stuff the flasks after refilling when front pockets loaded up? When poles up front vertically, does it impede your arm movement or access to pockets? If poles stored at back how long does non-bounce last? I used to use the adv12 and thinking of coming back.
I don't have any issues putting the soft flasks back in the pockets Steve. It can be a little bit trickier when the front pockets are really full but it's still not a problem. When I have the poles mounted on the front arm swing is ok but I do think the Salomon pole quiver is the best option when it comes to carrying your poles 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
Good review Loyd. I have last year's version of the 12 and am happy with it, except for one thing. The flasks drop down below the lip of their pocket, even the ones that come with the vest. I'm not sure how Salomon got this wrong? I have the pole bungees on my pack and I also have the pole quiver which I like using. I've tried 'across my back' for storage but don't like the way the knock into me. Not a huge issue and I know you were a fan but I'm not overly sold on the single pull point for the strap system. I prefer the system on my Sense Lab Ultra 5 vest.
Thanks Ian, glad you enjoyed the video. Are you using the bottle bungees inside the pockets? If you are I'm not sure how your bottles are still sliding down? Also the closure system is brilliant, easy to adjust on the fly and it doesn't work lose while you're running like the old system. Obviously running kit is super personal and I really like the Advance Skin 12 😁 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Hi Loyd, yes using the bungee cords. It's not like they slip down but it's almost like there is too much material on the outside. I thought it was just me but did see some comments from others about the same thing. Could be a batch or two not quite made to spec? You can still drink but the top of bottle lid is covered by material. You get used to it. As for the closing system, I find it ok when I'm thinking straight but when I'm really tired and to re-attach, I can never work out which one goes where. 🤣
I personally would go for the Salomon Adv Skin 12. The Harrier vest is brilliant for the money but it's hard for it to compete when the Salomon vest is double the price! Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏😊
Hey team, would this be a recommended vest for a half marathon/ marathon? I'd assume not as it looks like it's more tailored to longer runs. Keen to hear if anyone has any recommendations on shorter distance vest? Cheers!
Great video, just received mine… can I ask about the fit? I’m 6’4 and feels nice and snug but feels a little restrictive trying to get the bottles in, more like a smaller crop top and high on the back as I ordered the medium. Should I go for the large instead? Do you wear a large?
Thanks Ryan 👍 I'm 6ft 1" and I've got a chest measurement of 38-40" and I wear a medium. Have you worn a running hydration vest before Ryan? They are meant to be quite fitted and sit up high on the back because you don't want it bouncing around when it's full of kit and water 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
@@Run4Adventure thanks for the reply. No I have never worn one, can you tell? 🤣 it is a nice and snug fit. Just feels a tad small on the chest even with the front toggles fully loose as it slightly pulls my T-shirt inwards. Chest of 39, 6’4 and around 87 kg but as you say I’m sure it is designed to be more planted while running to prevent unnecessary movement. Really appreciate the feedback, I’ll hold off ordering a large and get out on a run later to see how it feels. Great content as always 👍🏻
@@Run4Adventure Hey there. I bought one in the Large size, but they are correct about it only being ok up to 43 inches - I have a 45/46 inch chest, big broad shoulders, and the vest feels too tight. Very nice, simple, attractive design aside from that, but need to return it and find another. Also, when you do review it: The bungee cord sternum straps on the front attach with little hooks, and the hooks are facing inwards, towards your chest, instead of outwards like on all other hydration vests. I am concerned the inward facing hooks could catch on the material of my wind jacket or shirts, and end up rubbing and damaging them. So that is another reason for returning it. Aside from that, and the lack of an XL size for anyone with a wider than 43 inch chest, it seems good. Oh and also the bungee cord adjusters inside the side pockets don't really seem to do anything.
That was improved years ago Lee, it only happened on the first batch of vest that were produced 👍 The toggles on the latest version are really solid! Hope you're fit and well mate, thanks for watching 🙏
What size would you recommend? I’m in between a medium and large on the Salomon fitting guide- 41in chest but not carrying any weight or bulk. (Looking at the nocturn 4)Didn’t know if going for the large would mean it’s too baggy. Any help greatly appreciated, first running vest! Love the channel.
Thanks Ben, glad you're enjoying the channel. It can be tricky when you're between sizes. You always have to remember it will fit a bit smaller once you've got kit in the vest. I'm a 38-40 inch chest and the medium is fine but I think a large would fit you better 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure Thanks for the reply! what would make you choose the adv12 over the sense pro? I already have other soft flasks without hard bases that I could swap out so that’s not an issue for me. I can get either vest right now for the same price locally so I’m pretty torn.
Good review Lloyd! I recently got one of these, moving from Inov8. I'm 6', 40" chest and got the large. Do wish I'd gone medium as I have to pull tight, which puts the bottles on the nips...so rub a bit on the longer runs. Need to play with the fit a little to get round that. Only negative and this is really stretching it, are those little bungies on the shoulders. They pop out easily and flap around. Overall, well happy with the pack. Fits great. Lightweight. No neck rub like on the Inov8. The new bottle designs are really good. And that new top pocket is super handy. Highly recommend. BTW, the green one was going for £25 less on the Salomon site.
You should have definitely gone for a Medium, if you're having to pull it in tight it's to big. The problem with this is when the bottles are full and your carrying lots of kit it will move around 😔 As far as the bungees in the top pockets you can take them off really easily. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure ah, didn’t realise the whistle strap could be removed. Thanks! And if anyone is after a Large in green…I’ll have one for sale very soon 😂
Like Dean I bought mine a few years ago and still going strong. Love it! And I love the look of the new one, especially that top loading pocket which is great for waterproof jacket quick stowage. Would love to support the channel but can’t stretch to patreon, would Buy Me a Coffee be something you would offer in future? Cheers Loyd and another great video! Hope training and prep for TDS is going well
The previous version is a great vest Paul, that's for sure! I'm glad to hear yours is still going strong. We are going to add a "buy me a coffee" option so viewers can support the channel that way. Everything is heading in the right direction as far as the TDS is concerned, not long now! 😲 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏😊
The Adv Skin 5 is a great running vest but I would personally go for the Adv Skin 12. You can run the 12 with very minimal kit or you can fit lot of kit in it so it really versatile. Where as you are limited when it comes to storage space in the Adv Skin 5. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏😊
I'd say the Sense Pro 10 is a it more breathable than the Adv Skin 12. However I think the 12 is a more comfortable vest to run with 👍 Hope this helps Tilen and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
I found the sizing to be the same. I've got both the new Adv Skin 12 and the previous version in a medium and they fit the same 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
It doesn't come with a bladder only the two 500ml flasks but you can buy a bladder for it Scott. The clever thing about the Salomon bladder system is the vest comes with an insulated sleeve to but your bladder in to stop your fluid getting horrible and warm 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
I’d always go bigger with a running vest if you’re in the middle on size because they will size smaller once you’ve got your kit in the back 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
The sizing isn’t done off how tall you are and how much you weigh. Here’s a link to the Salomon Adv Skin 12 sizing guide 👍 www.salomon.com/en-gb/shop-emea/product/adv-skin-12-lc11657.html?CMPID=pla%7Cpm%7Cgoogle%7CUK_EN_GOO_PMAX_PERF_Footwear%7C%7C%7C&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADMpyOi_p4hyYvo6i2xQIMsM2bvk7&gclid=Cj0KCQiAi_G5BhDXARIsAN5SX7ofNOkHLinsRK4DPGioSTYXCHAsbgfjIFRN0DP_OteNBVORTeduxXEaAu1QEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#color=76447&size=28041
Hi. I am 190 cm tall and weigh 102 kg. Which backpack do you recommend? I tried the Adv Skin 12 XL (their largest) and I'm not sure it's the right size. Btw, I'm buying running vest for the first time :) Thanks
The Salomon Adv 12 set does size quite small and the XL isn’t that big. Have you tried the Salomon vest on with it full of kit? It will fit even smaller when it’s got lots of kit inside! The Ultimate Direction vests do size up well so you might find their vest are large enough but it’s hard to know without trying them on. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏🙂
@@Run4Adventure no, this one was empty. I also tried the Compressport Ultrun S pack 10 and it seems to me that it was a little more comfortable. He was also without equipment. I say, I'm buying it for the first time and I don't know what's normal. I see that those backpacks are somehow high on the chest. Thanks for the recommendations. I will try to find other models and try them.
Hi, I just bought this and I found this vest would rub against my neck when running, and when I fill flasks with water, it will shake, is this normal? My Chest is 93 cm and my height is 184 cm, I chose a medium size
It sounds like you might have the wrong size Junjie 🤔 I've never had any rubbing issues with the Advance Skin 12 and I've had four different models of the vest. You'll always get a bit of movement when the bottles are full with fluid but it shouldn't be to much? I'm a 38-40 inch chest and the medium fits fine so maybe you should be in a small? Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
I never had the old model but I have the new women's version of this vest and I can't recommend it highly enough . If like me you're blessed in the boob department you'll know how uncomfortable chest straps can be , however this vest is so comfortable I forget I'm wearing it and the lower placement of the water bottles ,which are also shaped to fit women's chests, is genius. I've found access to the pockets easy and can carry everything I need in this Please don't laugh ,but when you showed the rubbish pocket I realised what it was for ,I've been using it to carry blister plasters, doh! 🤦
Really glad you're enjoying your Salomon vest and I'm glad you found the video helpful Ann 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Excellent timing with the review! How would you rate the comfort when running with the back empty? Any difference because of the new upper pocket? I love all the pockets, next version i'd love to see one of the zip pockets being waterproof though i suppose that means the price increases. I just panic for my phone if I get caught in unexpected rain!
It's run really well full of kit or empty, no problems 👍 A waterproof phone pocket would be a good addition to the vest, obviously you can always put it in a waterproof case 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I just got mine today (Oct 16 2023) online and thank´s to this video i now know what to expect. Funny thing is i got it for €116 and Salomon is selling it for €160. Loved your video man. Big, fat LIKE all the way from Spain. Keeo it up.

Came here for that 3:40
I had no idea how to use that bungee system. That thing was hidden well
Really gkad the video helped and you found it useful! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
The bottles with the wider opening have caused some irritation on my chest - I went back to those with the narrower opening because I do not 'feel' the smaller lid. Yes, I admit, it takes about 3-5sec longer to fill them.
Killer piece of gear and they still find ways to improve it. Pretty amazing
Totally agree Greg, I didn't think it was possible! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
I have the women's version of the adv skin 12. I love it. I used to have the decathlon 5l one, but it was not enough anymore.
I love the Salomon one.
I got my as soon as the pervious version came out and I never had any bungees, it was something Salomon added later 👍

Just ordered one of these based on your recommendation. Can't wait!
Thanks for the review on the new version , very much appreciated.
Very detailed as always.
I have the old one which my son now uses, so time to get myself this one.
No problem John, I'm glad it was helpful! I'm sure you'll like the upgrade and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
Harrier Kinder 10, was going to buy it again, but this has convinced me to take a look at the Salomon, great review as always.

I totally agree, the previous version is a brilliant running vest Dean. I'd say, if yours is still going strong then you probably don't need to upgrade just let 👍

Just ordered one in the new Vanilla ice colourway.
Beyond excited.
Hope you enjoy it 👍😁
Great review !! Have an older ADV 8 vest...will def. look into this for upgrading!
Thanks Chris 👍
Really glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
To be fair to the Harrier vest it is a lot more affordable than the Adv Skin 12 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Brilliant review. You sold me!
Awesome, glad you like it 👍
It's a brilliant running vest!
Like the idea of poles up front- never found a fast way to load and unload poles
I think a front system is a lot more functional Alan 👍

I tried a different vest from Salamon, it was a great bit of kit but the sizing just wasnt very good for me. In the end I switched to a Harrier Stanage 10L which I found to be a much better fit. I would love to see Salamon produce a slightly bigger size in the XL.
The Salomon vest do size quite small Jon and it would be good to see Salomon introduce a XXL maybe. I'm glad the Harrier vest fits well, it's a good option 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Ooh new vest! I have sworn by the Adv skin 12 for years and absolutely love it! Showing signs of wear and even had the sewing machine out, but it’s still going strong. Maybe time for a upgrade!?…
If you're a big fan of the Adv Skin 12 then I'm sure you'll enjoy the updated version 👍

What is the main difference between the “ADV Skin” and “Active Skin” bags?
Seems they made amendments to the old model since you got yours as when I bought mine last year it had the bungees on it for poles and also came with the wider opening flasks. Definitely doesn't seem any point me upgrading any time soon. Cheers
I got one of the first Advance Skin 12's and you're right they did add the bungess and the wider bottles about a year afterwards 👍
I'd say if your current vest is still going strong there's no need to upgrade. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊

Thank you for a very informative assessment.
What's the best way to wash this pack not wanting to damage mine etc
Thanks in advance
Came here to see exactly how the bladder clip works, but that was brushed over (maybe it’s supposed to be straightforward, I’m not using a Salomon bladder)
Great video. How can you tell which is the latest version? Just looking at buying online it's not clear old/new apart from branding positioning?
The new one comes with an additional top stuff ocket that you don't get on the older model. To be honest, they're both great hydration vests Gus 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
If you mark your bladder using a measuring cup you can track how much water you are consuming. That what I do.
I'm not sure you understand what I mean Harry. I understand you can do that but that still means you have to take the bladder out to check. I meant monitoring your fluid intake while you're running, it's a lot easier with your flasks on the front of your pack or vest because you can pull the flask out and have a look 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure great review though. I guess its a matter of preference. I rather a bladder, but I guess there is nothing wrong with either choice.
Such a great review. Detailed and informative. Might be time to upgrade my old 2018 Salomon vest 😀
Thanjs very much I'm glad you thought so. It's a really good version of the Adv Skin 12, you wouldn't be dissapointed 😊

well my experience with salomon.... never acctually liked this brand but with recent issues im done with it. two salomon vests, two defects in like 20 days apart. one active skin 8 stiches went apart, one adv skin 12 flask compartment at the bottom stiches just snapped and now there is a big hole and flask just slide through it. if any1 re reading this post please do know that im bit unlucky with that but man, this fells horrible. will be returning this one aswel and hopefully now the shop will return my money.
Great review Lloyd! I'm looking forward to getting the new 5 pack. Just waiting for the red model to come back in stock ;-)
I use a 4lt dry bag from Sea a to Summit 👍
@@Run4Adventure thanks! Happy with your information, thanks for the help
4:27 which waterproof jacket are you using here? I am struggling to find a rain jacket with taped seams that is not too bulky, and can actually fit in that top pocket. I feel like I'm going crazy because all the reviews mention putting a jacket there.
There’s lots of waterproof jackets out there that pack down small enough to go in the top pocket 👍
SAYSKY Flow jacket
INOV8 Stormshell
SALOMON Bonatti
RONHILL Mercurial
ASICS Fujitrail
Hope this helps! 👍
well done review. ty
Is thereca new version, 1 year later?
I recently bought Adv skin 5 to replace my old one which I love but has a good bit of wear and tear. I haven't taken the tags off the new one yet as I'm not convinced the new model sizes the same. I guess with first model it also felt tight initially. The new model feels less comfortable. Hopefully I'm only imagining it. I may return it and upgrade to the adv skin 12, although my events are generally 50k ultras
A new running pack will always feel a bit more fitted compared to an old one. I've got a medium in the previous version and the latest version and the sizing feels the same to me 🤔
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel Damo 🙏

Hi thanks for your great in-depth review. I just bought one with the help of your valuable info! As a starting trail runner, I see a lot of people having some cloth on their wrist. Is it a buff that you have taken off your neck there and put in on your wrist at 12m:10s in this video or is it something else and what is the purpose? Thanks in advance!
No problem, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It is a buff around my wrist but it’s not just any buff, it’s a Run4adventure buff that are available in our merch store! Thanks for watching 🙏
www.run4adventure.uk/merch/multiwraps
I noticed the newer/revised version bladder compartment is near to the back ( honeycomb part )
unlike the previous version is at the middle compartment if that make sense, do correct me if im wrong
I had salomon packs before and I found the zips broke easily and seized up after a while. Had switched to a kalias pack with a boa system.
Is this worth my money for 50k and 80k trail races?
I went for the Salomon S/LAB Ultra 10 vest but the flasks keep falling into the pocket once 40% empty, even with the elastic loop properly set. Never had that issue with the Skin pro 2... Did you experience that, ever? I wouldn't want the same issue with the ADV Skin 12
I like to carry more than 1L of water. Is this vest compatible with larger flasks? Thank you for this very informational video.
The Salomon vest will only take 500ml flasks but you can also carry a 1.5lt bladder in the back 👍
Great video mate, I've got the adv skin 8 and sense 10 big fan of them both.
You can buy the new wide bottles separately and they are a lot more comfortable than the Speed flasks 😊
Thanks for watching mate 🙏
Thanks for your comprehensive review.
just an opinion of mine, kindly avoid product review on a black in future. it is really difficult for viewers see the product.
anyway brilliant & detail review.

Hi loyd thanks for great review! Want to ask my chest 35 inch. Better for me to take s or m size? Thank you.
Cheers for this review, mate. Which would you prefer? The ADV Skin 12 or the Inov-8 race pro ultra vest?
No problem Rebs 👍
I'd always go for the Salmon Adv Skin 12.
@@Run4Adventure thanks for your reply. Then I think I would need some help from Salomon 😅
Sorry. Do you have any advice for me ?? 😭
Thanks!
Is there much difference between the old vest and the new one other than the price? Also does it have the insulated pack still for the bladder?
Not a massive difference, its more like an update than a complete change. I did mention in the review that you still get the insulted bladder sleeve 👍
Hope thins helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Great review! Well done 👏
Thank you Dia, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
Great review - quick question which pocket would store an iPhone 11 comfortably?
the older adv skin 12 does perfectly, so many options!!! and im sure the new one is unchanged..
You could easily fit an iPhone 11 in the front stuff pockets Jules 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure thank you!
@@GerdGuchl thank you!
When I have the poles mounted on the front arm swing is ok but I do think the Salomon pole quiver is the best option when it comes to carrying your poles 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
Obviously running kit is super personal and I really like the Advance Skin 12 😁
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Hi Loyd, yes using the bungee cords. It's not like they slip down but it's almost like there is too much material on the outside. I thought it was just me but did see some comments from others about the same thing. Could be a batch or two not quite made to spec? You can still drink but the top of bottle lid is covered by material. You get used to it.
As for the closing system, I find it ok when I'm thinking straight but when I'm really tired and to re-attach, I can never work out which one goes where. 🤣
hi there - great videos. Would you say you prefer the Harrier 10L or the Salomon Adv 12 please? Thanks.
Thanks Ryan 👍
I'm 6ft 1" and I've got a chest measurement of 38-40" and I wear a medium. Have you worn a running hydration vest before Ryan? They are meant to be quite fitted and sit up high on the back because you don't want it bouncing around when it's full of kit and water 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
@@Run4Adventure thanks for the reply. No I have never worn one, can you tell? 🤣 it is a nice and snug fit. Just feels a tad small on the chest even with the front toggles fully loose as it slightly pulls my T-shirt inwards. Chest of 39, 6’4 and around 87 kg but as you say I’m sure it is designed to be more planted while running to prevent unnecessary movement. Really appreciate the feedback, I’ll hold off ordering a large and get out on a run later to see how it feels. Great content as always 👍🏻
@@ryanpacker1115 I'm sure the medium is the right size 👍
Could you do a review of the new Inov8 Racepac 8, please?
We’re pretty stacked out at the moment when it comes to kit and shoe reviews but I’ll see what I can do 👍🙂
@@Run4Adventure Hey there.
Awesome review
Cheers Chris 😊
I'm gkad you found the helpful and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Have Salamon improved the design of those toggles? Forgot how many I had break on the first use!
That was improved years ago Lee, it only happened on the first batch of vest that were produced 👍
The toggles on the latest version are really solid!
I'm a 38-40 inch chest and the medium is fine but I think a large would fit you better 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
Torn between this adv12 vs the sense pro 10. If you were to have one vest for training and races which would you go with?
I personally would go for the Advance 12 set, it's a great allrounder! 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Thanks for the reply!
what would make you choose the adv12 over the sense pro?
I already have other soft flasks without hard bases that I could swap out so that’s not an issue for me. I can get either vest right now for the same price locally so I’m pretty torn.
@@Tical718 The Advance 12 set has more substance to it, I think it would be more durable over time. I also find it more comfortable to run with 👍
If the Sense Pro 10 was on offer Loyd would you choose it over the 12 set?
I wouldn't Rich, the Advance Skin 12 is a much better vest in my opinion 👍
@@Run4Adventure Really, really appreciate that Loyd.

Any reason to keep the insulated sleeve installed if your not using a bladder?

Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
The problem with this is when the bottles are full and your carrying lots of kit it will move around 😔
As far as the bungees in the top pockets you can take them off really easily. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure ah, didn’t realise the whistle strap could be removed. Thanks! And if anyone is after a Large in green…I’ll have one for sale very soon 😂

What’s your thoughts on the adv skin 5
The Adv Skin 5 is a great running vest but I would personally go for the Adv Skin 12. You can run the 12 with very minimal kit or you can fit lot of kit in it so it really versatile. Does this come with the bladder? & does the water get warm quickly then when inside the bladder?
It doesn't come with a bladder only the two 500ml flasks but you can buy a bladder for it Scott. The clever thing about the Salomon bladder system is the vest comes with an insulated sleeve to but your bladder in to stop your fluid getting horrible and warm 👍

The Salomon Adv 12 set does size quite small and the XL isn’t that big. Have you tried the Salomon vest on with it full of kit? It will fit even smaller when it’s got lots of kit inside!
