Hey Sage! I work at Salomon and I really enjoyed this review of our Adv Skin 12 pack. I've got an easy solve for your bladder tube issue. The best way to utilise this tube is to route it through the bottom and up inside the pack to your right as you've done - then just underneath the Salomon logo on your chest there is a fairly large elastic loop which the tube sit inside of. Once you've secured it, just cut the tube to your desired length and it'll work like a charm. Happy Trails!
Thanks for the feedback Brandan. I'll give that a shot. In the future, please tell the design team to consider a shoulder strap and magnetic attachment point for the hose. I don't think it will add that much weight, and it would improve the usability a great deal for bladder users like myself. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
i have the same pack with same issues...I dont buy a product to have to remodel it...i do like it though..when my hands are cold i have a heck of a time using the cords to make secure
You don’t have to cut the tube to length, just coil a loop in it within your pack and it puts the tube at the correct length. I used mine for the first time the other day and it was perfect. However, I did have to search for a set up video on TH-cam or I would have been puzzled like you were.
@@trailsagerunninghowever, many don't want a permanent magnet connector on a pack when they don't intend to use it. The pack is primarily for trail runners and most trail runners use soft flasks.
Great review. My Salomon ADV skin 3 (12 litre) dates back to 2016/2017. It doesn’t have the same issues as the vest you reviewed in this video with respect to bladder hose routing or chest straps. The one downside of my old vest is front pocket accessibility for a phone. My vest’s pockets in the front are too small for a phone but the side pockets work ok. But harder to get your phone out and back in and to zip things up. My zippers no longer run smoothly either. I think some salt build up needs to be cleaned. I used WD 40 on them last night but they are still tough to open and close. I also recently bought an Arc’Teryx Norvan 14 litre pack that is much better on the front but doesn’t work for a bladder. I got it for running to and from work so that I can put my laptop in it.
Thanks for the little tricks and tips you had included in your video which I couldn't figure out without your input. I also had issues with the bladder tube. Thank you for your effort and helpful information. You have a cool training spot.
Hi Sage, great video, thanks for the review! Just a small tip for the attachment of your bladder, in case you didn't figure it out yet: what works perfectly for me is to put the plastic piece attached to the loop on the pack through the loop of the insulation sleeve (that's first put through the eyelet on the bladder) and then to squeeze the plastic piece and move it all the way to the base of its loop (where the loop is attached to the pack). That should hold the whole together quite well, I never experienced any problems with that.
Sage, I really appreciated your review of the Salomon Advanced Skin 12. Your frank and thorough assessments of the quick fit system's suitability for bladder use were very helpful. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge with us!
I do agree with the minus points about the vest ,I pop the feeding tube through the elastic on the opposite side of my chest which so far has worked, but as you say loops and magnets might have improved things I want to add to your review from a female perspective, Salomon designed a vest for female anatomy where the bottles are placed lower and curved to follow the line of anyone who has noticable breasts ,I can't praise this design enough,I've worn this vest for hours at a time and forgot I'm wearing it , so much so my friend and I came down from a hill and had Sunday lunch outdoors at a cafe last summer, I sat in my vest the whole meal because I forgot I was wearing it 🤦 I agree with the elastic being fiddly , the plus side of the elastic is it's very comfortable if you have breasts, it seems to just mould around them without causing pressure points or squashing my breasts down (an ongoing problem for myself and others who are not flat chested) On a final note ,I'm autistic and have sensory issues around clothing and anything on my body , wearing most rucksacks I was constantly aware of the strapping and would end up cutting them off or tying them up somehow but then end up with the rucksack slipping off my shoulders ,I'd tried other hydration vests but again very aware of the straps and decided against purchasing but this vest I have no sensory issues due to the fitting system. Thanks for the great review 😊👍
Thank you so much for the kind word and amazing feedback. Aside the connection points I agree the vest fits snug and conforms to the body well. Hopefully someone at Salomon will see this and improve the other negative points because this could be a great vest otherwise. Thanks again Ann.
I use the Adv Skin 12. Loved watching this review, even though I've run with one of these packs for a year now. I agree with most points. For the 2L water bladder tube, I actually don't even bother with the proper routing path and never have. There is a smallish canvas loop about half way down the right chest strap area - I route the tube through there (over my right shoulder) and keep the excess drinking end tucked in under one of the flexible chest retention strings. I find this is the best configuration for me. I'll be doing a 200 miler soon and have just purchased a Montane 20L vest so I'm now starting to train with that. I still love the Salomon Adv Skin 12 though, and will have it as a spare/backup pack (I might even switch to it for checkpoints that are closer to each other). Congrats on the new channel by the way! Cool that you've branched out for running specific content here!
@@trailsagerunning I'm only just getting acquainted with the Gecko VP 20L - it's a lot bigger than I expected! That extra 8L is surprising. It fits nicely and feels comfortable enough, but I need more time to figure out how I position gear and all of that before I form any solid opinions. One thing I'm worried about is overloading it - not sure how it'll handle a lot of weight in terms of how it moves around with the running. I'll definitely be trying that out.
I definitely can't do without my back pouch for a hydration bladder! I can't deal with water weight hanging from my chest. Great detailed review Sage! Keep pushing!
Great review Sage! Appreciate your views here. I currently run the 5 Sense Pro, which is the much smaller sibling to the Advance Skin, but I have to say I can still fit a 1.5L Nathan bladder in the back (even though I’m not supposed to!) and fit some clothing and plenty of fuel items up front! Same as you, I wouldn’t buy it again but it’s served me just fine this past year.
My thoughts as well. Nathan zippers and pockets usually decompose too fast. Purchased an Ultraspire and the bungees have failed too often-thoughtful pockets/storage though. Which why I was pondering UD for next vest. New subscriber-thanks for the reviews/trail action.

The ADV SKIN 12 and 5 packs are great! I have the same 12 pack and also purchased the the latest ADV SKIN 5 pack last year (which is very similar but not identical to the 12). I also have a review on my channel of the ADV SKIN 5 vest. I love both packs! I don't normally run with a bladder as the two 500ml soft flasks are generally enough but I have put the HydraPak Stow 1L in the back (where the bladder goes) for extra water which I can use to refill the soft flasks when needed during a longer self supported efforts. Only downside is that you have to pull it out vs drinking from a straw.
Right on Chad, thanks for the feedback. I will continue to use my Adv Skin 12 but unfortunately the bladder and fit issues have me looking for a replacement. Might try and give UD a try once I get the funds.

Thanks for the feedback Garth. Do you think my problems with the "old" vest would have been solved had I gotten the new one? Aside the extra pocket they seem identical to me.
I found the pass through on at the bottom. It comes up along side your chest from one of the bottom side pockets. I'm sorry if that was not clear in the video.
I personally don’t like chest buckle system as the extra strap keeps dangling when I run. Prefer thin cord like Salomon. The hook system just needs few practices to get used to. The water bladder tube, you just need to pull out the desire length and leave the rest inside the bag like this video th-cam.com/video/GENwEVrWM_Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VV1txEDyV_vrq1kg It’s of good capacity but still super comfortable to wear!
I watched several reviews of this vest, and I don't mean this to sound harsh or as a personal insult to you, but I really have no idea what you were doing with the bladder and straw? Every other video I watched showed how to use the system and it was totally not what you had done. Your video was actually the first I had watched and I was both disappointed that they had screwed up this system, but also confused as your example didn't seem to make sense. And of course it didn't - you were doing it wrong!
No worries I love the feedback. I'm glad there are other videos out there now that show people the right way to do it. I have since ditched the bladder completely and only use the vest with soft flasks. Thank you again for your honesty. Sorry my video was a disappointment. Sage
Excellent review Sage. I've never ventured into Salomon vests myself, I run with a Harrier or Decathlon one, but this gives a really slick insight into how they fair. Nice job 👍
I recently bought a Salomon vest with two flasks as a gift but the flasks have a bad plastic smell even though I washed them many times it didn't change anything do you know what to do did you have the same problem thanks
Try using some baking soda or white vinegar (blend with tap water) to soak the flasks. Soke the flask for several hours or overnight. Sniff the flask, if there is no plastic smell, wash it with fresh water. Then, top up the flask, leave it for a few hours, and try to drink the water to see if the smell is still there. I do this to several of my bladders, which might help you remove the plastic smell, or at least most of the smell.
Great and thorough review as always, Sage! Thanks for the shout-out too! Love the bloopers! HA

You can, but it's very minimal. The key with any bladder is getting all the air out before putting it in your pack. Hope that helps.
Very nice run and vlogging ؍.َِ☹ ًٍ♥ۥَِ،! This is so entertaining to watch!🙏😍 Stay connected 😘🤗
Thank you for watching
You definitely need to thread the hose inside the vest like the comment below!
Yes, it sounds like that is my only option at this point. Thanks for the feedback.
Buy some plastic or magnetic hose clips and sew a hose pass through on the shoulders.
Thanks Cary. I have thought about doing that. I suppose my point was, this should be something Salomon should have done from the start.
Sage
It looks like you need a one-size-smaller bag.
I think I'm ok with the size of the vest. I still currently using it with flasks and it has not been an issue. But thank you for the feedback. Sage
Excellent review Sage. I've never ventured into Salomon vests myself, I run with a Harrier or Decathlon one, but this gives a really slick insight into how they fair. Nice job 👍
Thanks Ben! I've never heard of Harrier or Decathlon, would you recommend those vests?
@@trailsagerunning Harrier are great, an independent UK brand, really comfy and good value too
I recently bought a Salomon vest with two flasks as a gift but the flasks have a bad plastic smell even though I washed them many times it didn't change anything do you know what to do did you have the same problem thanks
Ugh that sucks. I have not had that issue but I hope you can find a way to get rid of the smell. Good luck.
