I was a marine in 2/12 marines there Feb to about may 1967. That's 1967! (Not siege period of 1968. There often seems to be confusion on TH-cam about USMC operations at the base.) We had at that time what were called "the hill battles" for 861and 881. I can see from this video, many familiar sites around air field. The revetments is where the "bird dog" light aircraft, so essential for forward observation, would park. Also, I will never forget the day I saw the largest stinking pile of body bags, the largest I ever saw during my time in country, laying all around the area where the plane is. I am grateful to the photographer for the memories this wonderful video shows. Robert Jackson

I read a few Vietnam vet war books about this battle. What a nightmare. The U.S Airforce was key in the outcome even though the Marines fought like crazy.

Went there with a convoy one time. 11th. Engineers. 3rd. Bridge co. We put the temporary bridge in, convoy passes, we pull it up. Follow to the next . We were out of Dong Ha. Bless the grunt’s. I always remember passing their outposts and being grateful i was in Engineers.

I’m making a trip to Vietnam later this year and want to bring my drone. Did you have to get their permission, or did you just fly when you wanted? Any tips for taking my drone to Vietnam?

My interest is filming locations of historical importance, please keep comments polite and as far as possible non political 😀
My Country wasn't involved in this unfortunate war but I have the utmost respect for all that served.

This is where my uncle, Paul Francis Stedman was wounded, he died in flight, I have wondered for years what this place looked like.

After the defeat of the South the victorious north used the huge amount of captured equipment until parts ran out. The early years of the invasion/liberation of Cambodia was conducted using captured US supplied former South Vietnamese weapons.
