One Man and his Drone

Various drone flights at historic locations. I'm a historical location guy. Film it or lose it. The rest can be done later. Put some effort in if you're interested in these locations.
I also Mix a bit. I'm a little oldskool and not a knob twister as I got my first 1210s in 95. My selection means i can respect the producer.
It's all a bit of fun. I don't take my abilities flying or mixing seriously.
If anyone does want wav (lossless) copies of my mixes I can sort it out. TH-cam compresses the crap out of them.

The Rockpile US Marine Corps 2024 by Drone (Vietnam War) the return. (Short cut)
The Rockpile was an important Marine Corps observation post from 1966 to 1969.
I’ve visited several times over the years.
Again the wind was sending the controller mad with warnings for high wind and I actually lost contact with the drone just as it had informed me the wind was too high to auto return home (helpful).
All worked out ok and I think the little drone worked amazingly. Well done baby drone.

Part 2 of my Visit to the battlefields north of Pleiku. glad I went there with 2 1st Cav veterans in 1994, one was on the ground during the battle, the other an engineer at An Khe, it was very uncivilized then, desolate almost, Albany was like a dead zone, certainly, no paved roads.
It was the escalation that sent draftees into vietnam The advisers were there at the beginning and the end Professional volunteers Who knew the folly of trying To contain the national spirit Of reunification of the country!

Glad you got more of the actual lz this time. Earlier vids I saw the drone was too far south in the other clearing that wasn’t really there in nov of 65. I hate the road through there now. When I was surveying it for We Were Soldiers, you could even still see the dry creekbed and termite piles. 2 years ago I hardly recognized the place anymore :(…
I've only flown the drone there once, this is a snippet of the longer video. Interesting about We were soldiers, I think that's one of the best war films I've seen. Definitely one I recommend to people. Anyway cheers
@@OneManandhisDrone maybe it was the longer vid where there is a lot of footage of the clearing a little to the south. I worked on WWS and hated it lol. Joe secretly did too. They ignored everything we advised and did their own Hollywood thing.

@SoCalHumvee just like any old battlefield there are risks. I'm sure if you dug around you'd find tons to gear. When on Hamburger hill I found bits and pieces on the peak.

Ia Drang IS a traditional unceded homeland territory of the Indigenous Jarai people. Big powerful America and Vietnamese gang up to steal and colonize Jarai lands. Tesla and coffee corporations destroyed thousands of acres of indigenous lands and permanently removed thousands of indigenous peoples out of their ancestral homeland.
Personally wouldn't know who is responsible but the area has changed with companies changing the landscape, that's for sure. Couldn't comment on Tesla in Vietnam but if its regarding battery production surely more likely Vinfast? Either way it's not good.

How high was the drone flying?
I'll have a look. Standard setting is 120m. I'll be re-edting it at some point and I've a few more places I've not even started editing yet. When I made the Khe Sanh video it got lots of views quickly, these hardly anything. At least they're on film now before they disappear, it's not or never was monetized.
@@OneManandhisDrone I saw a video of a Vietnamese guy on top of hill 732 on Chu Pong mountain looking down onto the battlefield area by LZ-XRAY. He wasn't at the top and it looked really high up there.
Depends on where you start flying from in some local laws. If you're at the top of a hill higher than 120m the height of 120m is taken from that spot. This applies to certain countries.
It will fly upto 500m above ground level.

They call this area the Forest Of Screaming Souls. So much brutal fighting went on here.
Try to get some footage of the other side of the mountain on Cambodian side. Also about 3 miles northwest get some footage of where the Ia Drang river flows south-west and hooks around Chu Pong mountain and flows into Cambodia. That where the 1/9 Cav sprung the ambush on that heavy weapons company on November 3rd, 1965.
Everytime I shoot a video there's always something else. I'm off to the Rockpile again next week to improve that one. Khe Sanh I'll not redo as I'm happy with that. I'll also try see what's left of Ropcord.
@@OneManandhisDrone Awesome. I love these videos. I really appreciate you doing these. While you are up at the Rockpile think about stopping at the old green beret camp at Lang Vei. It's not too far down the road. That's where the NVA overran the camp with tanks and actually rolled one on top of the TOC where the green berets were hunkered down in that bunker. They were throwing grenades and satchel charges into the bunker but the green berets were able to escape some of then. There is also the Cam Lo River where the rescue of Bat 21 Bravo took place. Costliest rescue operation of war.

In 1965 it looked a lot different. It was thick scrub jungle but they logged the area so itself open now.
Incredible footage. I donated some 2014 pics to the Vietnam Center in Texas Te h University.
Love the virw of Chu Pong mountain. From the view on a TV you can't tell how big that hill mass is. It runs from there 10 miles west and into Cambodia.
It looked way different in 1965. That was all covered in scrub jungle. They did a lot of logging in the area.

The indigenous people never bothered to register the lands as theirs. Without documents, they were left high and dry.
Hi , before flying your drone pls contact the local authority for permission , if not and you are unlucky and spot by local militia - border guard - police - local authority your drone will be confiscated and you will receive a hefty fine. And if you flown nearby a military zone - police - govt building then you will be in big trouble , a friendly reminder to all the foreigners here about our local laws on drone-uav
Cause in recent years criminals have begun to use drones for smuggling stuff and monitor police - border guard to do illegal stuff
