My cousin was killed at Khe Sanh
Lt. Allen Wesley Courtney Jr. Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division.
I was 11 yo at the time, our family still mourns.
The greatest acknowledgement as to how his men felt about him was that his name has been given to the sons of those who served with him.
There is an old Norse saying that goes,
    “ Cattle die,
    Kin die,
Thou thy self shall die as well.
    But one thing never dies,
The name and memory we leave
    behind.”

I had a friend who was there. He was older than me. He said when it first started he was so scared during a firefight, being able to see so many VC, That he literally shit himself and never even knew it. He's gone now, he was a Cajun from Louisiana and a good friend and a better man. I miss him every time I hear that accent

Such a haunting looking place. You could almost feel the 1000s of enemy soldiers hidden off in the distance just in this video. Can't imagine being there in person

I visited today (21st February 2023) and although the staff does well to maintain a good amount of the site and the museum, the runway, chopper pens and the rest of the site isn’t really accessible.
The runway is so thick now I could barely make out the chopper pens from the nose of the C-130.
Still a remarkable place, though, and well worth a visit if you’re near DaNang or Hue.

Really? I've been several times but 2020 being the last. It's a shame they've let it go. Hopefully now more tourists are here they'll bring it back. Covid was a very difficult time and priorities were probably elsewhere.

    Phil
    Amazing drone video.
I’m just wondering why you chose the location you were flying from?
You are standing within 100 ft. of the CP for C/1/26 (DX 847 419).
It took a direct hit on March 22, 1968
Did you have any problems with the locals flying your drone and what drone did you use?

    • @OneManandhisDrone
      @OneManandhisDrone  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Stephen Leonard I just walked over to the revetments as I wanted some closer photos of them. I’m using a DJI Mavic Mini that’s so small you can hide it all in a hoodie. No issues from locals but in Vũng Tàu some people were arrested for flying a drone on the beach.

It’s interesting after the war and everything the Vietnamese didn’t turn it into a military base but farmlands !! And still have the gunship and LAV as displays. More beautiful now than it was than. RIP to the fallen on both sides, this war should’ve never happened.

I'm assuming you mean the concrete revetments on the lefthand side along the runway. They're a parking area for an aircraft which has blast walls on three sides, this provides some protection if the base is attacked or an accident happens with another aircraft in the line.
