Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is quickly becoming my all-time 2D MetroidVania games. I'm about 75% done with it, and this game is awesome. Another great 2D MetroidVania game that came out fairly recently was the Ori games. Part one was amazing, and part 2 was even better
None of the games come close to Warrior Within in terms of combat. In WW you can turn combat into art. You can grab enemies' weapons, throw their weapons, throw them, behead them, slice them into two horizontally, slice them into two vertically, hurl them into traps or into one another, finish them off with their own weapons or just break every bone in their body. You can parry in multiple ways. When dual wielding you can chain crazy combos, kicking enemies like a break dancer doing a helicopter. Add time powers to the mix and when you finally master all that and you unleash the warrior within with a perfect and varied flurry of carnage against a large group of enemies without getting hit once, it starts to give the game a whole new dimension. To me, it starts to feel almost like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and the regular enemies are there for you show off your freestyle abilities. I can see The Lost Crown sort of mimicking that feel, but on a 2D plane it's still gonna be a far cry from WW no matter what.
@@FutureLifeSounds What do you mean? I've never needed a guide to beat the game. In fact I never needed a guide to get all life upgrades and finish with the good ending. Still, the warrior within, the best pop . It has the atmosphere where you really something that cant be explained. The combat and dhaka chase make it unique.
As an 8 year old at the time going from warrior within was shocking at how much the prince changed. I was down right offended that he said “bitch”, but had a lot of fun playing the game. I never got to experience the two thrones because it had nudity on the back and my mother never bought it for me for that reason at the time. Going to have to find my old OG Xbox or purchase a new one and a physical copy so I can complete it.
I was stoked about having the series on PSP.. The one issue is the camera unfortunately.. I died so many unnecessary deaths on Rival Swords I switched to ps2 version.. Forgotten Sands(PSP) is just weird.. Strange difficulty pattern from what I remember.. I didn’t have an issue with the ps3 version though.. I def liked it more than Jonathan! Still not as good as Sands of Time.. It was very good but not quite great..
I haven't played a PoP game since the original on MS-DOS, so when they announced a new 2D Metroidvania and everyone was like "No! We want a PoP like the old ones!" I was like "lolwut? Oh honey," lol. Anyways... I bought it. I'll need to go back and play The Sands of Time trilogy at some point but dang if this isn't a direct challenger to Metroid Dread as the best Metroidvania of this generation (and possibly ever).
I'm a fan who was introduced through the Sands trilogy so take it with a grain of salt but I'd say Sands of Time at least was a must play from that generation for sure. It even included some version of the first game as an unlockable, something I think more modern (or relatively modern in this case) revivals of old franchises should do. If I'm not mistaken, Sands was the last time Jordan Mechner got involved with the series personally and it had his enthusiastic blessing as a succesor to what he started
Its cool to see you still going I used to watch you 10 years ago and I loved your reviews I remembered your Call of Duty and Farcry reviews and your Sponge Bob game reviews
So another thing Ubi should consider is remaking the original PoP trilogy akin to what they did with AC Chronicles.. Well I guess technically they only have to worry about 2 & 3 being they already did it with the first one.. I was never a fan of tank controls not even with Tomb Raider & RE.. 2d PoP kinda gets away with it however because the animation was unprecedented at the time.. I didn’t hate Fallen King on DS when I had it.. Admittedly it could have been much better tho.. Sadly I don’t have my have my original DS collection anymore.. I should have been smart & kept it..

Forgotten Sands may have meh story and clearly made because of a movie but it has some of the best platforming in the series. Such as shame that everyone craps on it. I bet a lot of people never played it. Pick it up on sale for some really cool platform gameplay. I never understood why sands of time is the favorite of most in that trilogy.
