I thought his bio of Petty was excellent. For a change, a biographer of a contemporary musician who is a Master (as are all the Heartbreakers, each in their own right) didn't focus on all kinds of sleaze and debauchery, groupies, backstage antics etc. It's a great in depth unflinching view of TP, the men of the Heartbreakers and above all, their music. Thank you, Warren Zanes. Hard core TP&tH music connoisseurs will enjoy this biography very much. If you're a "People" Magazine or other voyeuristic consumer of gratuitous BS and PR, don't bother.
Warren Zanes, have you ever read the (I guess recreational) books by Martha Grimes? A combination of Agatha Christie and Monty Python, one reviewer put it. I really like what you wrote about Tom Petty and the context of his music. The thought that remains is that his music remains timeless and I know that's not a brilliant statement, but who cares?
OK I am out of this exchange. My sister, Colette Baron--Reid was and remains a profoundly talented artist. I love her and I love her music. She was very influenced by Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks. Her co-writers and producers, Tony Grace and Rob Deboer, have a strong background in jazz. Over and out!
