Great wee video review .The reason the valve popped out is because the hot weather makes the air inside the kayak expand. When exposing an inflatable kayak to sustained sunshine you should check the pressure in case you have to release some air.Otherwise you may be putting the kayak under stress and causing damage to it`s ability to retain air.
good job showing the differences between the two. While I have an assortment of higher end inflatables and hard shell kayaks, the Challenger 1 or 2 are great starters and for some, no need to spend more on a upgrade. Since I'm 6-2/230 the Challenger 1 is too small on legroom and weight making it sluggish. Anyone over 5'10" should really consider the tandem model. I put down a yoga mat to help protect the floor. The seats are not great, but with some mods, one can use a high back seat (love Ocean Kayak's high back clip in) or use a stadium seat for ultimate back comfort. Seat comfort is personal, so experiment with various pads or inflatable pads. These are great for travel too since compact when rolled tightly.
Wow! Such a nice video showing both types of kayaks. I have the banana kayak. I bring a big sponge bought at the 99 cent store to bail out water excess. Works wonders! Love my kayak, it’s easy to transport. Best kayak for leisure use on the lake or gentle waterways.
Thank you! That sponge idea is such a great one!!!!!!!! Where do you generally kayak? I’m in California so the only places we have taken it are the Pacific Ocean and Lake Tahoe! 😂
Thanks for sharing! Very helpful, as I was having trouble finding a lot of information on the differences between the models. Appreciate the information.
Price wise it's often better to monitor the prices during the "off season" IE the non- summer months.. There is often a wide variety of prices so it pays to look at several sources. Last May I bought the K2 Explorer for £103 (UK). A week later I saw it briefly for £79. Also it can be worthwhile to search daily over the course of a month or two to find a good price.
@@thebunnygirl I think the Explorer. We live on the East Coast and spend most of our time in the intracoastal waterway or connector Creeks that lead to the ocean so there are a fair amount of waves to deal with so we liked the raised nose. Our hard shells also have the rays nose and seem to handle rough water a bit better.
A few youtube videos commented on the banana kayak paddles that they are a bit short so they constantly drip water onto your lap while paddling. Is that your experience? Thanks, great video!
@@thebunnygirl yeah the price changes a lot on these. Last summer the price jumped on all of the Kayaks. TBH, you got a good deal, but I would tell anyone else not to buy the kayak if it is more than $140 for the explorer and as for the challenger, just keep an eye out for price drops. Today it is only $77 on Amazon.
I do have a question for you. Do you ever notice the boston valve leak air in the middle? I had that issue with the K1 Challenge on the 1st valve. I got another one and hope that it doesn't happen.
Thank you for doing a comparison, I decided I need the “Banana” as we will be using it in the Gulf and I will have my 4 year old grandson with me. Love your video!
Your location looks a lot warmer than my Explorer paddling spot. I broke my first one by not letting out air once out of the water. It was only a midly warm day but one of the floor chamber seals split when the air expanded & created a huge bulge underneath. Lesson learnt!
@@thebunnygirl East of England. I take mine down to a river in Thetford Forest, Norfolk. Quite scenic in the summer months, but a bit too chilly right now!
@@madmansurvival2148 There are far worse places to live. I know coz I've lived in them. Been up here 9 years & it feels like home now. Beautiful part of the country with 360⁰ skies in most parts
I have the intex challenger 1 an explorer k2 fastest wat to deflate them is using a electric or battery operated pump but using the top part sucks the air out faster an doesn't leave any air in the kayaks
Got the challenger 2!!!! The only disadvantage is that the seat is either way in the back or in the front!!!! Nothing in the middle of you wanna go solo!!!! Also, the seat is sorta flimsy, no sturdy back support!!!! Also, I don’t think it’s a very good idea to take that out to the ocean!!!!:/
We have the two seat Challenger and like it ok. The seats are hard to deflate, however. Our daughter has an Excursion and it is a lot nicer. Thanks for sharing.
Is it possible to climb back into the kayak after swimming without flipping it over easily? I like to jump out of boats to go for a swim but want to make sure it's not to easy to tip an inflatable kayak over when climbing back in.
Hi Stewart! Which kayak are you referring to? I haven’t personally tried that but from what I’ve read, people do that with the Challenger quite easily.
oh come on!!! In South Korea they sell Intex k2 kayak for 125 dollars!! what a ripped off... But i'm gona buy one hehehehe! OH! by the way nice review very helpful!
IMO the explorer is better, more redundancy in case of one of the chambers deflating and also has a drain in the rear also great for modifying for fishing.
Yeh! It would have been so useful the other day. We took our challenger out to find a hole between the seams on one side. It started deflating on the ocean but we made it back to shore! Lol
The price.of the k2 does change alot it was 300 dollars for at least 3 weeks then here just yesterday it was 80 dollars and free shipping so i ordered it immediately.Next day i checked and it went back up too 300 lol
I take it you purchased these some time ago? I haven't been able to find an explorer k2 anywhere for under $200 🙄. In fact most are around 250. So for that I can get a sea eagle 330 or maybe even a 370.
I got the Challenger in May 2020 and it was super affordable. I looked it up a few days ago and was surprised that it is currently in the $200-$300 range.
Want one of these kayaks myself. Currently watched about 20 videos and never commented on one of them. This was by far the best comparison on the whole of TH-cam!! That good it leaves me even more confused, I want to stay as dry and possible and want to go as fast as possible lol. Now I've to decided which I'd prefer. Is the speed alot faster on the green one?
Thank you so much! I’m so glad this comparison helped lol let’s see if I can help you decide though! The green one definitely goes pretty fast. Where will you be kayaking?

There's free services that will monitor prices automatically and send you an alert if the price drops - I use Honey, but there's others.
Muito legal esse review! Aqui no Brasil ainda não fizeram esse comparativo! Parabéns! Congratulations!
Thanks for the great review. I even learned a new word - pumpness! Cool!! 😁😁😁

I would love to see the self-bailing on the Explorer K2 in action! I have no idea how that works.
Her terminology is a little misleading. What she describes is simply a drain plug in the bottom.
I used the terminology used by the company in their listing on Amazon :) but thanks for clarifying! :)
