    Take a 6" piece of 2" wide waterproof tape. Fold it in half, but attach one inch of it to the bottom edge of the inside edge of your paddle... Water will hit the tape, and run straight down in the water, not your lap. Other tip, push those drip rings all the way to the paddle blade.

  • @1018Mr
    @1018Mr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    If you really want to keep the water from splashing from your paddles, I highly recommend paraffin wax applied completely over each side of each blade. Wax is hydrophobic. A good source is surf board wax. If you try it, let me know how it works.

    Use a regular battery drill (DeWalt) with a propeller attachment and bring an extra battery. My buddy does that with his kayak and carries a paddle as a backup. Relax mode engaged!

    This review is pinpoint my experience I had with this kayak. Before the pandemic, I bought two of these boats at around the price of two day of canoe rental each. They shined on small lakes when the wind is low. For me, they truly were a great introduction to kayaking. But be warned : while very stable, they are slow and a bit of wind can really slow you down even more. I eventually decided to upgrade to a nicer kayak the day I was nearly stock but a bit of wind on a larger lake. If I had to redo it, I would probably go the Challenger K1 instead of the Explorer, since it offers a nicer glide.

    I'd always carry an Intex rather than drag one - I punctured my SeaHawk 4 dragging ashore at Stoke Gabriel, England. Just one oyster shell ripped it like paper - impossible to repair. The kayaks are light enough to carry over sharp land.

    I personally use Intex airbeds with integrated pump for over 15 years. (using it up to 3 times a year). I am on bed number 10 because they spring a leak every so often. But they are double high so the most comfortable ones on the market for the money. Cheap but good but crap. Hope your boat will last longer.

    • @TheTechofTech
      @TheTechofTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They’re easily repairable. Seams don’t like to stay folded forever, so that’s the weakness with their construction, just the same as a bed. They seem to last long enough for people who’ve had them for a while.

    you don't even need a car for this boat. I put it on a foldable hand-cart and take it on the train to one place, paddle down a river and at the end of the day get onto the train again in a different town and drive home again. This is where this boat really shines: you don't need to get back to your car, you don't need somebody to pick you up, you just have to plan your tour in advance.

    Thank you! The part where you were getting out of the boat and said "there is no cool way to do this " and "this is the wettest part of the journey" is SPOT ON! But I would not trade my K2 for anything! I just recently bought a "REAL" kayak and only used it for 20 minutes before I was totally missing my Explorer. If you think it will be fine with repeated use on a river with submerged branches, then maybe I can trust it, otherwise I will use it for lakes and my hard 'yak for the river.

    Howdy, neighbor! This is the second time I've watched this vid. The first one sold me on this Yak as I had seen other videos
    but yours is so descriptive. I took mine on it's maiden voyage just last weekend here in Arkansas, two days in a row and yesterday I was so sore!
    Got off out in the lake in the wind (10-12 mph) and it was a little more challenging, but doable. I love how one can "scoot" across the water!
    It is also pretty easy to fish out of. An "Incredibly Awesome" experience!

    I can't believe these are only $100ish in the US. I've just bought one in the UK and the cheapest I could find was £200 (around $280). Even 2nd hand ones are at least £150! A mod I've seen is to add a section of broom handle in the middle to extend the paddles, but you need to duct tape it on.

      All things outdoors are in great demand right now due to COVID restrictions encouraging more people to get their recreation outdoors than we’ve seen in a very long time. You couldn’t even find an Intex kayak in stock most of last year, but I was able to buy this one in November, after the kayaking season closed in most of the US.
      As far as quality, holes don’t end up there by themselves. If a seam weld blows out, that’s one thing. If a new hole appears anywhere else, it’s from how it was used or how it was stored. These are easily patchable, but buying a different kind or different brand of inflatable kayak isn’t going to change the resistance the material is going to have to getting holes poked or scraped into it. FWIW, I’ve used mine for four trips now, and I still don’t have a single hole. That’s still way more value already than I would’ve guess for what these usually cost or even what they cost right now.

    If you're going to get soaked then you might as well just swim! The whole point of a boat is that it allows you to go in water without getting wet. A ROW BOAT is superior in every way. You stay completely dry, it's extremely stable and comfortable, it's easy to carry over land and packs away smaller and lighter than any kayak.

      @TheTechofTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4
