I never understood why he ever got famous or was as successful as he is. Happy Gilmore is one of the most over rated comedies in existence and everything else he's ever done has been an epic fail...with the exception of The Wedding singer which i didn't mind because it had such a great 80's soundtrack. He is not funny at all.

Claire Foy was being so polite that she didn't want to come out say that the reason she wasn't doing s3 of The Crown is because they needed an older actress to play the Queen in her 50's.
Actually, it was always known that she would only be in the first two seasons. That was the point of the show since the beginning

That's not really true, the plan was always to change the cast after two seasons and then change it again for season five and six.

Maria Luísa I totally agree. Just finished ss2 and now i'm missing them so bad already. Changing cast in the next season in any series makes me heartbreaking.
Maria Luísa I don't know why they don't just use ageing makeup! It's not like they're on a tight budget, considering Netflix pored in £200 million to make season 2. Ridiculous decision.
Apparently it is something they set up ages ago because a lot of the cast at the start weren't up for doing six seasons and being type cast. They didn't think Matt and Claire would get such a following, otherwise they probably would have considered aging up, they did age her up a little in season two. Also keeping the same cast for two years is easier than keeping a cast for six years.
Rosalyn Josephine Burgess well, I’d argue Matt already had a large following (Doctor Who). I suppose it’s easier, but it’s surly a risky decision. Is it really wise to change up the whole cast for a show Netflix has invested so much money into? It will surely confuse a large portion of the audience who, by the way, have been invested in the same two actors for 2 years. While I can’t speak for the actors, would two not-so-in-demand actors really pass up 7 years of guaranteed payed work?

I've heard of her! She also played Anne Boleyn in Wolf Hall! She was phenomenal but much better as Queen Elizabeth, though.

May I say as an American, I absolutely love British sit-comes. They seem to help aid my English, my language seems to become more prim and proper after watching British shows. They help give me structure and I give proteus to them.
My speech and vocabulary improves as well after watching / reading British entertainment 😂.

I really liked adam sandler in this. I believe in this clip he was the funniest he has ever been.
Claire was amazing, they could have aged her. It was nice to have seen her play the Queen as the Queen aged, with Claire’s extraordinary nuanced performance.

they definitely couldn’t have aged her. the “just age her with makeup” argument is just absurd and always has been; it’s an argument made by people who have little to no understanding of the craft. you can age an actor up by a decade or maybe two, but beyond that it’s not possible on a TV series. if it’s a section of a film, it’s sometimes possible (though it rarely looks good bc you can’t change an actor’s eyes, and eyes show age), but it requires several hours in a makeup chair prior to shooting. it doesn’t work in TV. Claire would’ve had to sit in makeup for more than half the day (when an older actress could simply be filming). makeup artists would have to ensure she looked exactly the same every single day of shooting. at some point it would begin to look unconvincing, and eventually it would look ridiculous. that extensive time in the makeup chair would also drag production out, making it twice as long. that means the budget would also skyrocket. if there was a way to age her, they would’ve. there isn’t, not for the lead character in a show that already takes most of the year to film a single season and already has a budget of $150 million per season. aging Claire Foy was never, ever an option.
Rewatching this and now that Olivia is playing QEII for seasons 3-4, and just announced that Imelda Staunton will be the third and last Queen for season 5! How fast time flies!

i watched most of season 1 of the crown. i 'm as much against the monarchy as it gets. claire did an exceptional work, had no idea she's that genuinely funny of a person irl. should finish the season and watch the next. pretty good show.
