Ahhh, that great myth that parking charges solves parking problems. Truth is it does nothing but create a new revenue stream for the council to mismanage.
To coin a phrase… “batsh!t bonkers Britain”! From what i am hearing, this appears to be the norm in both town and district councils across England. They really just aren’t listening to the inhabitants at all ☹️
It seems to be a common theme in many videos of this type that whenever Councillors are being criticized, given a dose of reality or having to listen to anything that doesn't agree with their agenda they suddenly find the papers on the table in front of them EXTREMELY interesting..
Warwick district council out voted Leamington town council and destroyed the towns only spot of natural beauty to make an adventure cycle trail ...which is hardly used !! They will not listen !!
I live in the area, too. They built a huge cycle on the busiest road in Leamington, the Kenilworth Road, bringing normal traffic to a crawl. Over the past six months I have yet to see a single cyclist use it. It also took them a year to build it.
Always ask yourself, "Cui Bono". Which parking firm will be used and who is on the board of directors/shareholders? You may,(or may not!) be surprised...
I just happened across your video and as I used to live in Sudbury. Oh! In the eighties. My curiosity was piqued I am sure the parking, in the main, was free then and was, at that time a draw. If I am remembering correctly, they prided themselves in the fact that people came to town to shop from all over the region. What has changed and who stand to gain, not that it is any of my business, these days, from the charges?
The district council, Babergh, like most councils are in financial difficulties which is made worse by the government cutting their funding by nearly 7 million over the next 4 years. So they are looking for ways to generate the shortfall and this is an untapped revenue source!
Brilliant analysis Rachel and from where I’m sitting councils are just following a script supplied by the government as per usual, thanks to you and others we are all becoming wise to it and will action against these ridiculous schemes forced upon us 👏👏
Absolute insanity. Like you, I use Sudbury for old fashioned shopping, parking in the free car park and wandering around. If they make it harder to do this, I might as well carry on to BSE and enjoy the shops and additional facilities there. Sudbury ain't broke so why try to mess around with it. Cafe culture is nice on a warm Mediterranean evening, but on an average UK day it's not that pleasant. A bit like non leisure cycling really. But hey, it's only the local cafes who are saying it won't work and what do they know?
We are going to be doing some videos on how to legally challenge councils that do this so stay tuned for those and hopefully they will be of help for your village.
Take a look at Thornbury South glouc if you want to see a bustling High Street devastate. The council went ahead with closing off the Road, against overwhelming objections. Where once it was a nice day trip from Bristol with unique shops etc. it is now half closed down and not worth the trip.
I get the feeling that it is not so much in the interest of the people but more for the interest of those who are adamant to the point of forcing this change regardless...........question?????......... who has bought the vote against the wishes of the people ...... seems like someone in the council is making a gain of function or reward for themselves only ?????
What a surprise, the people in charge not taking and notice of the public they actually work for. These people need removing from and job that gives them this notion they are above the public and will do what they want instead. Will be looking into a local petition to get them removed from councils.
Dreadlocks in her ear!!! LMAO!!! Reminds me of Staines councillors versus Ali G. Thousands spent on making it "on Thames" against the people's wishes - only the few snobby a-holes that unfortunately had the majority vote wanted it changed.
There should be a Council Watch here in South Cambridgeshire, where, recently we all heard that the council has decided to work ONLY for 4 days a week,.....BUT,..........WILL BE PAID FOR 5 DAYS........Remember, most if not ALL these lazy individuals continue to work form home, so who IS watching these people when they decide to take a few days off to go to the pub in their lycra on their new bikes????
💯James, every council needs watchers... any likeminded folk in your area to work with to make that happen? Speeches and all resources available in the dropbox 😘
I'm getting a laugh out of the word "scheme" that they always use, because it reeks of this definition: make plans, especially in a devious way or with intent to do something illegal or wrong. Also, if the want to run a pilot, it will never go away, because they already invested (and promised their buddies they could deliver) in putting up the payment and verifying systems
My late uncle and aunt were councillors, hard faced b******s who could do no wrong and really didn’t like it if their ideas were questioned. My late dad, brother of my uncle, used to go to meetings and used to say the council was a bunch of money wasting shysters…
It occurs to me that all councils should inform every house and business via email/online with voting rights so that consistent democratic referenda can occur on all decisions for very small cost. Can someone with computer skills create this template for councils to usr? I cant because i am hopeless with such technology!!
Absolutely. I would also suggest that each councillor sets up an email newsletter and tell their constituents once a month what they are voting for and ask people for their opinions!
In Gateshead council I saw foster carers clothing kid in a top with logos that was meant to be for marketing purposes .. .. related to Jim savil.. they removed any record of it . Once it was notified
I find ur videos and analysis so helpful to understand what and how things go wrong. It gives me such hope, education & also courage. Thank u so much. We have similar issues in North West.
I think they don’t know what they’re talking about. They are almost certainly referring to footfall monitoring which looks at mobile phones in the vicinity. No connection with GPS.
Let's organise a quality course to teach proficiecy in hot-air, waffle and word salad. Please keep up the good work. Can anyone figure out the primary loyalties of those who aren't listening?
I drove through Sudbury last year. Amazing place - it still has a good variety of small shops. How has it survived? It's like going back in time. Ah - they're going to have a war on the motorist. Yep, that should kill it off.
Sounds like the council have just looked at an area as a cash cow. An important question for them to evidence would be; 'what is the problem that introducing parking fees will solve?'. If traffic or😅 pollution pops up, you answer that with investment in public transport, the green response right? If it's public safety, you FOI the local police for stats. The council should be able to demonstrate the efficacy of their decisions, it should also be costed out for at least 5 years and it should be demonstrable that it will have no unintended consequences. They should have benefits that they can evidence. Evidence is the key to making informed decisions especially with peoples livelihoods, not opinion, ego or subjectivity. I thought Scotland was bad, but this is a bit mental.

That's a very good point - we'll look into it!
Unbelievable!
We are paying for this incompetence .
Sudbury Council & Bury St Edmunds Council……totally clueless…..😂😂😂😂
there are so many examples of road measures killing shops and killing high streets
One does, does one?
Well done for standing up for the people!
Yes, the greens....dear goodness. Why leave your tent dear!
Brilliant analysis Rachel and from where I’m sitting councils are just following a script supplied by the government as per usual, thanks to you and others we are all becoming wise to it and will action against these ridiculous schemes forced upon us 👏👏
They just can’t stop bullshitting
District council cannot loose what it never had.
🤦♂️
Absolute insanity. Like you, I use Sudbury for old fashioned shopping, parking in the free car park and wandering around. If they make it harder to do this, I might as well carry on to BSE and enjoy the shops and additional facilities there. Sudbury ain't broke so why try to mess around with it. Cafe culture is nice on a warm Mediterranean evening, but on an average UK day it's not that pleasant. A bit like non leisure cycling really. But hey, it's only the local cafes who are saying it won't work and what do they know?
I am so hoping that this idea goes viral!! Thank you for your energy, it's amazing and inspiring!
They want to charge in our village norton it will kill the village if they charge for parking
We are going to be doing some videos on how to legally challenge councils that do this so stay tuned for those and hopefully they will be of help for your village.
Well done Rachel we will buy you a coffee next time you are in sudbury
Deal! 😊
Take a look at Thornbury South glouc if you want to see a bustling High Street devastate. The council went ahead with closing off the Road, against overwhelming objections. Where once it was a nice day trip from Bristol with unique shops etc. it is now half closed down and not worth the trip.
😔
You are a local heroine❤️❤️❤️❤️
And a national one 😍
Well done keep it up
The primary purpose of a Council is to suck any joy out of life. At least it's something they're very competent at.
Thanks Rachael
All towms & cities dont seem to realise the more they charge the more it hits the everyone from the shops to the people who shop there ,
Need one in Norfolk.
Anyone you can suggest 🤔
@@carinnacooper9533 Id do it just not got the time or in-depth knowledge.
There is the Thetford council watch look up LSB film productions.
@@Napoleonwilson1973 Yes Chris is on my list ,of people to reach out to.
I get the feeling that it is not so much in the interest of the people but more for the interest of those who are adamant to the point of forcing this change regardless...........question?????......... who has bought the vote against the wishes of the people ...... seems like someone in the council is making a gain of function or reward for themselves only ?????
Can hardly believe that.
good video, thanks! Some of these people are not fit for purpose
What a surprise, the people in charge not taking and notice of the public they actually work for. These people need removing from and job that gives them this notion they are above the public and will do what they want instead. Will be looking into a local petition to get them removed from councils.
That was brilliant, well done..!
I’m thinking on 🤔 running Bexleyheath council watch channel! Anyone fancy in helping me ?
The Green Party woman sounded like she'd attended the Kamala Harris school of not actually saying anything yet banging on without end
It was unlistenable/unhearable. Instant shutdown of the hearing senses.
The question is, what idiots voted for her 🤔
She should have been tested for magic mushrooms.
This just confirms my suspicions that town councils are moronic and don’t take into consideration the views of the public.
Stand.
The lunatics are running the asylum or is that the council?
I've known that for years... Hence the name
People elected or appointed into positions of authority are suffering severely from the delusions of power and grandeur!!!
This is good... I'm actually quite interested in becoming a councillor now just to object to all these bureaucrats.
Fantastic! That is one of the reasons we set this channel up! Go for it 😊🙌
My late uncle and aunt were councillors, hard faced b******s who could do no wrong and really didn’t like it if their ideas were questioned. My late dad, brother of my uncle, used to go to meetings and used to say the council was a bunch of money wasting shysters…
Liked and sub'd. Well done on catching all this !
End free parking in Sudbury and I’ll stop coming… What’s the point? It’s a free parking oasis just now. Why spoil it…
As an interloper from central London may I say their object is simple, no cars they hate them unless it's their own on 'official business'.
Wow they even sneaked in tracking 😅
And they don't even realise it! 🤦♀
I think they don’t know what they’re talking about. They are almost certainly referring to footfall monitoring which looks at mobile phones in the vicinity. No connection with GPS.
Power to the people, the people are the power.❤
Let's organise a quality course to teach proficiecy in hot-air, waffle and word salad.
Please keep up the good work.
Can anyone figure out the primary loyalties of those who aren't listening?
Do councillors get paid from our council tax? If so what a complete waste of money.
Exactly this. John Ward is hell bent on introducing charges, and to hell with the consequences.
Well worth the wait !!
Yet another great vid. If it has a name it will have a box …. Do Not put a tick in it!
The people have rejected parking charges. End of story.
