I'm definitely getting this. It's about time someone stepped up and made a big bulky real knife. Thanks Cold Steel! The 5 inch fixed blade idea BRILLIANT!
I've always loved Cold steel blades . If I'm going to spend 200 on a folder ( which I rarely ever do) I want it to be solid AF & dependable if Im forced to mistreat it. The CRKT Carson design M16 models are great examples of solid tactical workhorse knives. I prefer manual deployment as well.
I'm a big time Recon 1 owner and user. Though I like this Swift III, the only thing I dread, is the safety lock. Thanx for the video my Bladed Brother 👍⚔✝🇺🇸
GSM has GIGANTIC shoes to fill if they want to go toe to toe with the Recon line. I still have my xl Recon clip point folder, and the smaller Recon tanto folder, and they're still going strong 8+ years
I've had my XL in CTS XHP for about the same amount of time. I put a Snaggle Tooth on mine for pocket deployment. I wear it to work every day. It's crazy how slicey and bulletproof it is.
@MrBoomie00 agreed. In my opinion, it's the best group of knives Cold Steel has ever produced. You can use them for almost any task you can think of, and it keeps begging for more
Yes, the Recon Series "Rules!" But, I enjoy my Swift 3, also. Though, I trust my Tri-Ad Lock Recon 1's more for heavy-duty cutting tasks. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Nice vid! My preference is beefy folders over tiny EDC card board cutters. I have the Spyderco Millie, the CRKT M16 Dead bolt, the Cold Steel 4Max Scout, the ZT 0452, the Artisan cutlery Proponent and of course the Buck 110. Love them all for their sturdiness😊
Thank you, I'm tired of all these stupid mall ninja tanto, warn cliff, whatever the hell else. Idk why all knife blades don't look like this, or a clip point.
I like how you essentially try to break the knife but in reasonably practical way . I like how there is no tension when first closing the knife that's cool
Looks good, but idk, i still miss the Lynn Thompson days. I love all the classics, it's hard for me to get a current CS. They are just so corporate now. I haven't seen anything from CS that's really sparked my interest in a long time. Imo WTG is taking over, they have so many awesome fixed blade knives. I think Demko knives can take over where CS lacks, if they'd come out with NEW FULL lineup. My rant for the night.
i agree.. a well balanced hefty tool does wonders for ones confidence... never been a fan of finding out its zero play wit a beefy folder... guess thats when ya go manual..
Im loving these new atlas locks from Cold Steel. The atlas lock is fidgety, finger safe, and is also reliable. I hope to see many more similar atlas lock knives from Cold Steel.
I like the overall design, in concept. Now I’m ready for different blade steels, blade finishes, and handle colors at tiered price points. (e.g., s35vn, satin finish blade, and royal blue scales)
I bought one of these just before new years been carrying it every day ever since. For some reason, this knife is perfect for me,Ive been carrying knives since 1976 so to be carrying this exclusively since new years says alot.M4 steel, 4" blade nice assisted blade, and that atlas lock all in 1. I highly recommend it ! Like it enough to have 2 of them. Its the 1st Cold Steel knife not designed by Demko that i really like.1 slight issue and its on the both i have: the pocket clip screw is welded on ; i cannot get the pocket clip off either one.
It would be an interesting variant for a collection. But for me the Recon 1 would still be king. Like you, assisted knives are not my favorite. And if you bang the butt of a knife with that style lock, it will release. Probably why they added the secondary lock. I think M4 is a great choice for their DLC coating. If you want something different, it would be cool. I’d park it right next to my old Buck Marksmen locking mechanism.
When it comes to folding knives with CPM-M4, what comes to mind? Spyderco Gayle Bradley, Benchmade Contego? IMHO, the design of the CS Swift III is sound, except that I prefer manual opening, stainless steel blades and satin or stonewash finishes. I have a feeling that the CS Swift III might be positioned to compete with Benchmade or some other maker's higher end assisted folders....
I wouldn’t mind the assist. The knife is definitely interesting. Especially with M4 steel. I do a lot of bass fishing and gms has tons of different brands in the fishing world like Yamamoto. Knife wise I’ve always been a little suspicious of GMS owning cold steel brand, but this is the first knife that peaked my interest. They’re also coming out with a knife that has titanium scales. Not sure if it’s a frame lock or not. I was surprised.
GT.... Agree on the M4 steel on a pocket knife. Definitely appreciate the true slicing nature of a sharpened M4. Have several Spydie's in M4, and will go to them often, my Benchmade bailout in M4 is a pocket favorite for me. I like the looks of this Cold Steel Swift, and the results you identified in this review, but as you noted, assisted open is not a feature I really care for.... Between you and Honest Outlaw, you have the knife and gun reviews covered.... What's up in the ginger community, keep up the great work!
100 bucks to $150 should be about ballpark. Cold Steel is not the old brand we used to know. Customer service with the old brand was absolutely horrible, however General overall product quality with quality control is not like original Cold Steel. Maybe it's just an introduction? Or perchance Availability being what it is on this model may potentially suggest using M4 in a limited run? Hard to say. I've never tried this particular lock. None of my old Cold Steel stuff needed safety gizmos. I'm wagering Recon 1 fans will simply stick to Recon 1. I don't think Swift steals any bases or hits it out of the park. Good review and showcasing so far Aaron. More awaits to be seen.
I still can't bring myself to buy any knife with a lock protruding out the back (Civivi Vision FG or a Shark Lock) or a big cutout in the handle spine like this one. I am sure the time would come where I need to use a specific grip and these things would bother me. We're always talking about comfortable contoured scales, crowned spine, chamfered edges, etc. and how much we appreciate it - these knives must always be a compromise.
My wife likes the light stuff (Benchy Mini Bugout and 531 Pardue) while I tend to prefer stouter knives (Shooziz HAN-313, Benchmade Proxy, Flytanium BEEF, and Tenable Kryo are the most recently rotated carries).
Nice design. I have no problem with an assisted knife, and that blade shape in M4 should be great long term investment. But... the extra $75 over a Recon1 in S35vn, I'm not sure it's worth it. I also run all my TriAd locks with Snaggletooth wave openers, so they are actually "swifter" to open than the assisted opening Swift models. I'd be interested to handle the knife to see if its slightly lesser finger cutouts significantly provide a better Pical grip over a Recon1.
If I am going to have a M1A Abrams day (working in the woods), I want a beefy knife. If I am going to have primarily a stealth recon day (supermarket), I want a small, light knife. That said, I already have a Recon. The Swift is tempting though.
Midway stop.t9 one handed open and close is awsome. I'm so pumped.for a 4 inch slab of M4- these are about 250 canadian so far listed- just waiting for shipping >:)
don't know if there's been a study but I think the Triad Lock "feels" ( subjective ) to be the strongest locking mechanism out there .... I wish they would make this with the Triad as it is "tried and true"...
Looks interesting but the atlas lock is a turn-off for me. I usually edc a 4 max scout, large voyager, or bush ranger paired with a verdict. Recently picked up the engage in 4116 just to try out the lock and it feels far less comfortable than the triad or a shark lock does
I was interested right up until you said "assisted blade" (ie. assisted opening). That's a deal breaker for me. Just another component that can fail and assisted mechanisms are often used to overcome poor deployment performance. Sorry Cold Steel you're still on my black list but I'll give you a couple of points for trying. Sharp blades all.
EDC- Clean the fingernails, open some boxes, scrape this, cut that, etc. My choice for many years now has been the Kershaw Leek (Random in my case). It's in my pocket, my son's pocket, my brother's pocket, and my brother in-law's pocket. You barely know it's there and it's 100% reliable. I gotta have a big knife too but only when I'm at work. Otherwise, the bigs stout knives for EDC don't make sense to me. Cool knife though. Good vid Aaron.
A milled pocket clip is a definatel negative IMO. Interesting knife though and I also love M4 (if they do it as well as Spyderco does). I like heft, IMO Boker simultaneously fixed and RUINED the Kihon FS when they made it lighter (and flimsier) and basically removed the liners but then also gave it the superior Micarta and 14C28N the original should have had. I hate "ultra-lite" gear. It always fails or forces you to deal with massive compromises. Gear doesn't need to be needlessly heavy but there's a functional weight where gear is durable and works best without having to worry about fragility.
Thats an Awesome Blade , I will definitely buy 1 if it can be De-Assisted , I don't like assisted blades , Thanks for that Kershaw 😅😂 , now I heard it can be De-Assisted but does Anyone out there know for sure ?? Great Review Aaron .... 👊💪👍🖖
G'day Aaron, I've really been looking forward to what CS come out with since the takeover. And if you/they have got anymore I'd certainly be interested. "if it aint broke, dont fix it' ..... comes to mind ...... Its all good one handed on the Recon 1. Cheers Duke. P.S. Question, if I may, ......... whats the handle thickness on this one ?
Hello G., how about the one that has the "5" in the name (forgot what they called it)? Keep up the good work and vids. Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 😇🙏👍
@ it's also smart that it can be unassisted and still work in case the springs get borked and aren't able to be replaced for whatever reason 😉. And the M4 is nice!
It is moronic to pay $200 for a Cold Steel folder. (You guys knocking it because of it being assisted are really just showing us that you are a collector, but not much of an End User…)
I overuse ( hard use) my hand tools. I use them properly, just try harder to keep up with the big dogs! If it’s not quality, it will leave you high and dry. Dissapointed with spyderco cpm 30v shaman. Edge retention nothing special.
Used to love cold steel. American lawman and andrew demko's designs in general were always strong and unnecessarily overbuilt. The company lost so much of its soul when it was sold and demko went his own way. I still carry them in spirit, ad20 is my daily user. Swift seems pretty average. The design is visually a little bit of a miss with the nub, demko would have cut that into a choil and exposed that bit of the blade when closed. The lock is fine, not exciting compared to a shark lock. Would lose the spring assist. The sharpening choil looks really good and centered where it needs to be. I'm still skeptical of foreign mass-produced m4 but your swift handled business, you did in fact keep the tip. Without having held or used the knife I'd say 7/10.
Does anyone know if the steel is M4 or CPM M4? There is a difference in composition and manufacturing process (ingot vs powder metallurgy). Cold Steel has M4 on the blade vs CPM M4.
Yeah that's a hefty price tag for any knife, that’s why I make these videos every week helps you guys determine if it’s worth throwing down the money or better to go in a different direction.
Honestly, since GSM coldsteel's decline in quality the past year 2024, I wouldn't spend 200$ on that swift 3. I'd stick to the older 4max scout or sr 1 lite.
Where did you kept all your knives when your boys were younger? My baby just started walking and I'm expecting him to suddenly find one of those lost opinels around the house.
For me, this is an easy skip. Too heavy, too big, and assisted is a big nono for me. Too bad, it's not a bad looking knife. I like the look of the full metal Atlas, I thought this would be a g10 handled version from the thumbnail.
GSM are merely owning cold steel, they dont want to change it too much. They kept the factory in Taiwan and most of the staff. This is a good example of work smart not hard. Too many companies that sold to china quickly began producing straight dog shit, but it seems like GSM outdoors doesnt want to add to that ststistic, and so, GSM-Coldsteel knives arent *terrible*
I find I either use my ColdSteel Voyager XL or my ColdSteel 4Max Scout. The Scout is heavier and over built and the Voyager has a longer blade but is lighter. Those two knives meet my needs.

I'm definitely getting this. It's about time someone stepped up and made a big bulky real knife. Thanks Cold Steel! The 5 inch fixed blade idea BRILLIANT!
My scheduled tasks of the day determine which knife I carry.
Looks very interesting. I love my Recon 1's. Would love to see the Recon 1 with M4 steel!!!
Would be into this without the auto. Just like my Recon and use to it. Good video Sir 👍👍

More blade shapes like that! Digging that look

@@gideonstactical haha well thanks. I've always loved knives, swords and weapons since I was a kid. I guess I'm just getting old and particular.
Awesome review! Love cold steel.
Sure seems like a winner. If you're excited about a blade, then most likely I would be. Thanks for showing us.
Totally!

I don’t like the secondary safety lock on knives
Nice review! How does this knife compare with another “big folder” option, the Benchmade Adamas?
I love my Adamas, this is around the same weight, but will be a little slimmer, and we might argue slightly more durable on the locking mechanism.
Other knife companies: let's make a light folder
Cold steel: hold my beer and watch this shit
Haha for real!
What a beast. I might have to throw one in my bike's onboard kit

Could you ever do a review of the new flytanium beef pocket knife
Solid review. Triad Lock or no go for me with Cold Steel folders
When is the Frenzy Mini 3V coming out?!
I’m buying one, it’s expensive for an import in my opinion, but I do think this is a return to the Cold Steel of old.
I like the review enough that I went and pre ordered one.

Picked up on a Cold Steel Code 4 for a song and dance. Very slim and lightweight lock back
I find manual actions are more fidget friendly than assisted knives.
Would love to see an update to the Cold Steel AD-10 in 3V. If you’re into overbuilt folders, that one is a BEAST.
Looks interesting but the atlas lock is a turn-off for me. I usually edc a 4 max scout, large voyager, or bush ranger paired with a verdict. Recently picked up the engage in 4116 just to try out the lock and it feels far less comfortable than the triad or a shark lock does

I love my Recon 1 but it apparently the Swift's handle is more ergonomic.
It’s very good for a folder but the recon 1 is good ergonomics too
Nw they did to do a 3.5” with Aus10 to lower tye price a little too.
Can you review the Gerber Downwind Drop Point pls😊🎉
Looks very promising 🤙🏼
EDC- Clean the fingernails, open some boxes, scrape this, cut that, etc. My choice for many years now has been the Kershaw Leek (Random in my case). G'day Aaron, I've really been looking forward to what CS come out with since the takeover. And if you/they have got anymore I'd certainly be interested.

On to the lock; ...the ol' chestnut ...... "if it aint broke, dont fix it' ..... comes to mind ...... Its all good one handed on the Recon 1.
Cheers Duke.
P.S. Question, if I may, ......... whats the handle thickness on this one ?
Great thoughts , the same thickness as the recon one. It is really just a different type of recon, one different hand ergos, and locking mechanism.
@@gideonstactical No worries, thanks mate, it looked a little thicker on the vid.
R they going to make it without the assist?
Not that I’m aware of currently
Odd to see an assisted blade just drop when you disengage the lock.
Ya, it’s actually really cool.
Gsm doesnt own cold steel anymore, they were bought out by platinum equity.
GSM is still the parent company in 2025.
Yeah, I just looked it up. I just hope they do a good job.
Is it a large folder or wimpy 3.5 inch blade folder?
Hello G., how about the one that has the "5" in the name (forgot what they called it)? Keep up the good work and vids. Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 😇🙏👍

Love that knife
Assisted, nope.
Agreed! Never understood the need for an assisted mechanism. Not a fan
U can take the springs out
How's the detent without the assist?@@bettss4597
Assisted, yes. It is assisted.
You saved me from watching the video 😂
I found one for $90 and added to my cart. It’s not a knife dealer and I’ll let ya in on who it is if you don’t think it’s a clone?
wish i could find this in a 3" version
I trust the OG recon 1 more!
JoeX needs to test it
Damn if I didn't just buy the fm1 I might picked this guy up haha ima probably grab one if they ever go on sale cuz I love me some m4!
It is definitely a great knife.

Correct, I did my 10 year anniversary video explaining our 13 months on the road to what brought us back.
M4 doesn't perform better enough over S35VN to justify the extra cost. I like the design but I'll stick with the Recon 1.
ONLY PROBLEM IS ITS A BIT OVERWEIGHT IN HAND
Not sure why it needed an assist....🤔
Does anyone know if the steel is M4 or CPM M4? There is a difference in composition and manufacturing process (ingot vs powder metallurgy). Cold Steel has M4 on the blade vs CPM M4.
For EDC, I prefer a 3" blade. This could be a great option for the outdoorsman.
It is definitely a great option for the outdoors!
I have a Recon1 and Swift in CTS-XHP. If not for the cost, I'd snag this knife......but $200 is $200.
Yeah that's a hefty price tag for any knife, that’s why I make these videos every week helps you guys determine if it’s worth throwing down the money or better to go in a different direction.
Recon 1 clip point, tri-ad-lock forever.
Honestly, since GSM coldsteel's decline in quality the past year 2024, I wouldn't spend 200$ on that swift 3. I'd stick to the older 4max scout or sr 1 lite.
Which i reminds me, i got my 4max scout and rajah 2 after seeing your reviews and joe x's test vids, thank you sir
Where did you kept all your knives when your boys were younger? My baby just started walking and I'm expecting him to suddenly find one of those lost opinels around the house.
Thats looks like a working man’s knife
Ounces make kilos! ;P
Then all my Cold Steel equals Tons.

For me, this is an easy skip. Too heavy, too big, and assisted is a big nono for me.
Too bad, it's not a bad looking knife. I like the look of the full metal Atlas, I thought this would be a g10 handled version from the thumbnail.
It is green g-10
GSM are merely owning cold steel, they dont want to change it too much. They kept the factory in Taiwan and most of the staff. This is a good example of work smart not hard. Too many companies that sold to china quickly began producing straight dog shit, but it seems like GSM outdoors doesnt want to add to that ststistic, and so, GSM-Coldsteel knives arent *terrible*
Recon 1 with the tri ad lock wins. Sorry GSM...
Cold Steel you say? - Nope.
Demko shark locks better.
Out of stock but $159 on Amazon.
Same way I like my farts to smell I prefer beef
I find I either use my ColdSteel Voyager XL or my ColdSteel 4Max Scout. The Scout is heavier and over built and the Voyager has a longer blade but is lighter. Those two knives meet my needs.
I like the recons and the swift 3....BUT to be honest all you REALLY need is a pocket bushman with RAMLOK. Tough knife.
Swift I and swift II looked much better. This doesnt even resemble a swift.
Also I stole my mum's phone😂
