And she tells him to stop his crying because tears won't make her son walk again, shows how Gary's path, has changed his Mother as well, but the moment we all know that Gary and Julius have changed their each other's minds, hearts, and souls is when Juluis walks into Gary's Room and the Nurse trys to tell Juluis that only family is allowed in, and Gary said "That's my Brother, can't you see the resemblance?" You know, Coach Boone really shows Gerry a lot of respect in turn; he sees how politely and seriously Gerry addresses him and how he has good reasons for asking -- asking, not telling -- his coach to make an exception to his policy. And so Coach hears him out and considers it, and supports his captain. He makes sure Gerry faces the choice he made by being the one to tell Ray, but yet also he respects Gerry enough to let Gerry be the leader of his team and do this instead of Boone stepping in to do it to show who's boss. I never really thought about that before.

    When a teammate's choice of action deliberately endangers and hurts another, that person is no longer a teammate. Ray deserved that cut beyond any shadow of a doubt. No doubt it hurt Gary, to see what a best friend had become, and to have to do something about it.

    • @Savior20061
      @Savior20061 6 ปีที่แล้ว +91

      Agreed. Except Ray didn't "become" like that. He was probably always like that. Because of the way he was raised, or because of his own choices. He's a good example of a flat character. Gerry and Julius change and the Titans learn to consider each other brothers regardless of race. Gerry went from coming at Boone with an attitude and trying to tell him what to do, to humbly making a request with plenty of respect.
      Ray stays exactly the same. He won't openly do anything racist anymore, because he knows the black players won't let him get away with it (when he called one of them "boy" and immediately got attacked earlier in the film), but his bad attitude permeates every scene he's in. In the end, he wouldn't even respect his former best friend, Gerry, who at first told him quietly that refusing to block for Rev would get him kicked off, then yelled at him for not blocking well during practice. Time to cut him loose indeed.

Ray wouldn’t get with the program and when he intentionally missed that block causing Rev to be injured Ray made himself a liability he was a danger to other teammates and Gerry had no choice but to recommend to coach Boone that Ray gets cut from the team.

      All good points except for Savior20061 "probably always like that" (I refuse to believe that people are incapable of change, they often just resist it into blind obedience)
      but they are playing a football game, sure one of his teammates could have gotten hurt, that's within the nature of the game. What I take umbrage is that the emotion stops there when life is so much more messy, he didn't try to persuade his friend in the film or have to deal with the parents backlash. tidy up and onto the next scene.

    I really like Remember the Titans for the challenges it showed of the time period and how each person had to rise up to overcome them, or fall to the wayside. Ray thought he was standing on some sort of moral high ground but reality is much more than a straight up black/white and the weight of his mindset meant he was left behind

    Dá gosto assistir filmes assim. Sem choro e mimimi. Fazer a coisa certa!
