      +Install a Friend Its called shyness i believe. He's not smug at all that's just intelligence that you are not used to. First and foremost hes very shy , everything else is secondary. It's not weird at all. He doesnt suffer fools, and more perceptive than most. He's only comfortable when he's on stage, or when he doesnt have to deal with people up close and personal.

    A lot of comments about how it's weird that the audience is clapping, and it that's because it is. BUT, and TV tapings in America, there's usually a, "Rally guy" who kind of directs the audience to clap or even have an over-exaggerated laugh anytime the guest says something. This is so the viewers at home has the impression that the studio wants transmitted.

  • @nueve08
    @nueve08 10 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    Totally uncomfortable situation for Morrissey for sure! This is when stupid MTV made singers and bands go along with this ridiculous round of questions in order to please the kids in the audience and to make the singers or bands look "nice". If I love Morrissey and The Smiths back then, aside for his awesome music, it's because of the man's brutal honesty. I'm sure that If Morrissey had had the chance to speak his mind out right there in the middle of the show, he would've said, "I enjoy making music with the band and I'm happy to perform it love but, honestly, I can't stand the way the music industry and television networks expose artists in America... It's annoying, irritating and quiet stupid".

      ***** Yeah that's a fair point I suppose. There is no denying that both Johnny Marr and Morrissey are musical geniuses, and as great as The Smiths were (and I really love them), for some reason when I want to listen Morrissey, I always choose his solo work over the Smiths. Maybe I just like his voice more the older he got...

    Understanding and being ok with the fact he's the way he is, is an act of respect. But the ones who have any problem with his behavior might be second guessing him.

    the bit about him preferring this band over the smiths is a load of bs. the rest of the smiths put Morrissey on the map and without them, he might still be renting a room in Whalley Range... seems a bit disrespectful to throw that chapter of his career out the window. But then again his band was sitting right there so there wasn't really anything else he could say.

      The 'rest' of The Smiths? Sir, Joyce and Rourke did fuck all. I think you mean Marr. And where would Marr be without Morrissey? Teaching guitar lessons at a local studio I suspect.

      Murakami R He's always very honest. My favourite album's of his career are since Your Arsenal when Boz took over the band& onwards, but his first two are great too. The Smith's made great song's ,although they were poor musically, live especially but Johnny was good with studio affect's & the lyric's/vocal melody's whether studio recorded or live are amazing 😃

    All the fans cheering when he says he prefers the new band to being in The Smiths seems odd considering they're all probably Smiths fans.
    Then again, he could burp and they would whoop and cheer.

    What a load of bull dude, to hear Morrissey slap The Smiths like that really is tragic. I read his Autobiography and realize the amount of shit he went through with Mike Joyce and all but still, just because of all the drama doesn't mean The Smiths were this band that he couldn't give two shits about.

  • @JSTNtheWZRD

    Whoa!!!! If anyone could write about that feeling Morrissey created growing up it would be Sylvia Plath. Her poetry was a perfect expression of art, as you don't have to take it in the context with which it was written, in her world, you could read it flatly and in a more artistic way, and this is not true of all poets, only the best. And if anyone was Smiths like I would imagine Oscar Wilde and Miss Plath. Plath for her versatile writing dynamic that is often underestimated and Oscar Wilde because of Morrissey holding a bunch of lupins in his back pocket being the devilish romantic plucked from suburbia up on stage - someone said he was the greatest lounge singer there ever was - and it's true!
