    You actually want a run of wire to both start and stop with a high tensioner. If you start the run on the side of the “H” with the high wire bracing it will be fine. The point of the wire bracing is two-fold, to adjust the tension of fence once strung and provide extra strength while stretching the fence initially. If the “H” is going to be in the middle of the fence in between two roles of wire, run two tensioners in an “X” pattern. This way you can tension each run and have extra support to pull each run of fence. I hope this make sense. I spent my youth building woven wire cattle fencing with my dad and this is how Daddy explained it to me.

    I am no expert but I think you did a great job on the fence for it being your first time. Who doesn't make mistakes on their first time doing things. I love how you are willing to share that instead of making people think that we live in a perfect world.

    Well done. Here in Australia we have three tension wires to attach the woven wire to. The bottom wire along the ground is heavy duty barbed wire so wild dogs and dingos can’t push under it.

    Cows will sometimes try to reach over the woven wire fence and if you don't have anything to prevent that on top of the wire it will be crushed downward. We put a single strand of barbed wire along the top and that prevents that from happening. You could of course use an electric wire, too.

    Jason I recently heard a guy talking who has been fencing on his family’s farm since childhood. Regarding attaching the woven wire to the T posts. But hey, someone else has been forewarned about the areas that can go wrong. And maybe that someone would not be able to bounce back from that kind of set back as well as you. So thank you Jason for these valuable lessons. ❤🙏

    My husband and I put up 42 cattle panels for our back yard fence. We were renting and that way the expense way not that much. Took 3 rolls of fence wire for our garden area. Lived there 3 years on 6 acres. Asked landlord if he wanted to buy it at half cost. Said No and unhooked it all and moved it with us. Also took my clothesline down that our black smith made me for our farm in 1972. If you put it up correctly it last along time. Great job Jason. Take semi load to morganton, nc each wk out of Nogales, az. Have loved the fall leaves. Come thru Ashville and think of all of the homestead group around here. Blessing 🙌

Our goats and sheep are now in a 6 acre paddock and only the kids can get through the dog fencing 😂. Not too much longer till they’ll be too big to get through. You should be so proud of yourself. Really good work ❤

    One of the best ways to learn farm skills is to offer to help a neighbor farmer do things like build fence, pens, etc on their farm. No matter how inefficient their method is for doing things, having a real example will explain many things. Also a good way to create good will.

      If you have a LONG run greater than the 230' roll of wire, learn to "stitch" the two rolls together, then you can work pull-post to pull post but get a lot accomplished with a refined method. Also, if you have any rises and falls, consider those points for a pull post, even if they aren't evenly spaced. You can cut the end of the wire to suit the slope and then you don't have wrinkles in the wire. You can use high-tensile wire or barbed wire on the top and bottom courses first to hang the field fence on. I used hog rings about every 2-3' for attaching.

    Not criticizing
    I would splice 12-18 inches of #9 wire on the end of the fence that was too short. Then wrap those splice’s around the line wires. In time those staples will let the fence slip and loosen.
    Great job for your first attempt. Not many guys could come out of the city and do what you have done. Keep it up!!!

    Hi Jason, great job on the fence! Wnen we put up our t-post fence using the clips that come with it, I just used a little flat head screwdriver to tighten the clips. Slip the screwdriver through the loop the clip makes on each side when you've placed it over the t-post and fence and wind it around by turning the screwdriver. Easy.

      @janellevoigt5481 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't have a fencing tool, its a combo of a hammer and pliers with a cutter and gripper, a very useful fence tool have. We had 2 eventually. And for the T posts we used a pair of pliers and a screw driver, they make a tool for it, but we didn't have one, so we Macgruverized it, smile, as for stretching the woven fencing at one time we didn't have a stretcher, so we used the double 2 x 4 method, and drilled holes and bolted them on either side of the woven wire, so it was clamped down between the two boards and the put a chain wrapped around either end of the 2 x 4's attached a come along to the middle of the chain with it attached to a tractor or a truck as the strong man, and tightened the come along to tighten the fence. then stapled the fencing to the H brace after wrapping the woven wire around it and then cutting it off/the excess, we doubled the staples on the wrap to make sure it stayed and wrapped the cut off lose ends over the back wire.

    Good prototype! I am watching Cog Hill Farms do fencing and I have to tell you that seems to be the hardest job on the homestead! They also worked together and it's a science once you continue. they learned a lot!

    Jason I know this was a lot of work but it had me really laughing hard! Watching the fencing roll bouncing along behind the mini truck was delightful! I guess to just your happy go lucky attitude actually made me want to string fence! Thank you always a joy! 😃🤣🙃😉😁

    Jason, what a joy it is to watch and listen to you. A mind that doesn’t stay still‼️ My late husband always worked by himself and I dubbed him as “old worksalone”.
