No matter how old I get, Undertale will always hold a special place in my soul and heart. I loved every single thing about it, and its helped me become a much better, peaceful and loving being overall. I don't care if people will hate me for loving the game, because to me, they are just that, haters, trolls, and idiots. I went from being in a very dark place, to now being happy, cheerful, and very, very loving, thanks to this game. I learned that I don't have the heart to hurt anyone in a game like that, even if it is just that, a game. I love Undertale greatly, and I always will. I always shall. You know Asriel, you are right, this game has also helped me be a much better person. Before, I used to be one of those guys with all those cringe comps, cancer, hur hur le edgy may may, and all that trash. But with Undertale, it's given me that special warmth and feeling I have never felt since a long time, especially all the shit I've been through in the first half of 2016, I even felt that I was dead on the inside and just end up dying this year. *SPOILERS* I remember a fringe conspiracy theorist noticing an amazing new anagram for Asriel Dreemurr as well. Everybody, at this point, knows that _Asriel Dreemurr_ anagrams to _Serial Murderer_. But the conspiracy dude noted that it also anagrams to _Israel Redeem[e]r_. So it's interesting: in his 'fallen' state, he's the 'serial murderer' whom only a service-to-self (Pacifist) Frisk can forgive and cleanse of sin. Once he's forgiven, the _Serial Murderer_ part of him is replaced by the _Israel Redeemr_ part, where he devotes his life to ensuring the well-being of all.

It’s actually a digital guitar that Toby got online. He then inserted the guitar into FL Studio, his Digital Audio Workstation, and made a melody out of it, like he does for almost all of his songs.

Came back to this after Deltarune Chapter 2. It’s amazing how even now, this series makes me cry, even during moments with little to no emotional impact- JUST because I remember the first game, and Asriel. Still crying for the goat boy, and now for Kris who misses him, to this day.

A really well done final boss, and an even better final boss theme. The "SAVE" method of defeating it reminds me of the Mother franchise and how you had to defeat the final bosses though odd methods. The boss getting the rainbow-techicolor-acidtrip backround when the guitar part started reminds me of those games too.

I honestly miss how big this game was, it is almost timeless just like Earthbound and Mother 3 which Toby took inspiration from, this is one of my favorite RPG games and it will remain one

I can tell this game is going to have a nostalgic revival in not too long, hell that's why I am here, Undertale is now 7 years old going on to 8 years old and I haven't played since it's release. The thing that I love about undertale is that it takes simple game mechanics like erasing a save file, using save points and turn them into major points of the game, especially in the genocide run, that make you feel guilty in taking away the characters happy ending, resetting it without their knowledge, going back and killing them. That's the main reason why I love undertale, because I don't think and game developer has ever thought of using game mechanics that way. In most games these days, it always seems like the only option is to fight everybody, but with undertale, your given the choice to do the humane thing, and spare everybody. With Flowey telling you to leave them alone to enjoy the happy end, your given the choice to put the game down, never to disturb them again. Or your given the same choice Flowey had, to experiment with different endings. Turnip of Power Asriel doesn't get his "good ending" though. He's still a flower, still can't feel emotions. Sure, Flowey isn't a jerk anymore, but that doesn't mean he's gotten his "happy ending".
+Lauren Chaput Asriel is at peace with himself, at least. Asriel was meant to die long ago; Frisk just helped him move on to the other side. Asriel accepted that his best friend wasn't a good person, but reminded himself of what good truly was in the process. He might not feel anything anymore, but that's because he went to the wrong people who were powerless against it; Chara was able to make Flowey feel fear. Frisk will be able to make Flowey feel whole again.
At this point of the game... I was completely on the verge of tears. I knew I did well in sparing Flowey at this point, I know not giving in his twisted view of "kill or be killed" was the way to go even if he did screw everything up in the end. But when I saw Asriel... I knew I did the right thing. And then, the game let's you save everyone you befriended. Words cannot express my feelings when Papyrus expressed he wouldn't capture me because I'm his friend, or Sans telling me he was rootin' for me. Undyne telling me that not all humans are bad. And reminding Toriel about my preference, so she and Asgore would remember who I am. Now this is an ending. It's mostly the reason I cannot go back and do a No-Mercy playthrough. The thought of murdering the same people who believed in me (or should I say Frisk) this whole time... I cannot bring myself to it. This game, I swear.
Frisk is a separate person. You control him, but that doesn't mean he is you. In fact the game a lot of times implies Chara (The Fallen Child), Frisk, and you are a different entity. Frisk is a child that loves peace, and such nature only comes on in the peaceful run, where you don't let The Fallen Child to influence him. Chara has been mentioned to be the "evil" that resides in our hearts, and when he totally controls Frisk (Genocide Run) in the end, no matter what you do, he kills the "player" (as in, he crashes the game itself) and when you turn the game on again, he only let's you play again if you sell your soul to him.

Every person you know or have known are still technically nothing more than the sum of the memories of experiences you've had with them. Fictional or artificial experiences are no different -- "real" or not, all experiences are in your head, and have actual real effects on the people that experienced them. Look into the whole "fictional characters are real" philosophical argument if you have the time, it's really interesting stuff. Santa Claus and superheroes are often the most popular examples for these arguments. Anyway; I can't bring myself to replay Undertale, but not just because I'd feel awful for taking back the characters' happy ending -- replaying the game more and more would means I'd see all the scripted dialogue and interactions for what they are, and thus they would seem less and less real to me each time, and eventually, I would no longer care, because "they're only characters in a game." And I don't want that. Flowey is the very personification of that phenomena.

Sometimes, I wish I could just lose my memories so I could get into Undertale all over again. I miss the days when I just got into it thanks to my cousin and still had plenty to learn about the game. The songs were very fun to listen to for the first time and memorize over time, and each character had their own story to tell and for me to learn about. It truly gave me a special feeling, learning everything about Undertale for the first time. I miss my childhood and wish I could get it back but I never can. All I can do is listen to these songs for some nostalgia

Man I still get teary-eyed listening to this song, thinking of when I first finished the game over half a year ago, how mesmerized I was at this battle and how fulfilling and satisfying (to me, at least) the pacifist run was. Boy, how time flies. But you know what? Even after all that's happened, this is still one of my favorite games of all time.

Figured I'd replay, following Asriel's line worried that I'd never play again. So I booted up the game to his reduced, but more familiar form begging me not to reset. I was very conflicted as to whether or not to reset.
This game honestly saved my life, in a way I know I’m late and all, but there’s just something about this boss fight that empowers me to keep on going, and that’s what I’m gonna do. No matter how many times I get knocked down, how many times someone throws cruel words at me like a dagger, no matter how terrible or stressed or scared or sad I feel, I’m gonna come back up. The first playthrough and perhaps a couple regretted decisions for a first reset (from one point of the game, or reset to the beginning of the ruins) is what defined you as a person. If you were doing a genocide run from the start you might've finished it, were frustrated and quit the game, if you reset after some character made you regret that, and try out something less demonic, not just saving the underground, any possible neutral ending. You had the power of what was going to be done (until you didn't after and if a completed genocide run), the way I see the games reset mechanics isn't for checking out whatever can and can't be done: it's a way of telling you you always have a chance of changing who you used to be (unless if, again, you've sold your soul, then it's no longer you, everything you've done can be changed by the person controlling your soul). Everyone has a chance of redemption, no one says you won't feel bad after realising what you've done, or if anyone would forgive you, if you're *insert determination joke here*, and have a shining resolve then you quite literally control your fate

You know? I know this boss is a total unlosable victory lap for the player but you know what I DONT CARE! That kind of fight has its place and here its perfect. This fight, this is your reward. +Crimzon Chi Kinda makes sense though. The monsters are never quite attacking you physically, but your soul - it hurts more when they have a greater capacity to hurt you, or for you to be hurt. I think this was touched on when Sans explains what LV and EXP mean in relation to how powerful/weak you are in a fight, and in a way, explains in-universe why you were basically indestructible in both the true genocide and pacifist routes. +Crimzon Chi It was mentioned in the game that a soul who did not want to fight would inflict lesser damage and vice versa! That's what made humans terrifying, because the souls of humans are already strong and with the intent to kill they would be so much stronger!
+Crimzon Chi Some probable explanations: Asriel became less cruel the second he regained the monster souls to replace his old one. His real motivations, buried underneath denial and delusion as Flowey, became harder to ignore, so he was less psychotically nuts in combat like Omega Flowey. Alternatively, the loving monster souls inside him were dulling his power against his will (whether or not he realized this). At this point, with all her friends enslaved right in front of her after motivating her with their own determination, Frisk is far too determined to let death stop them like it did in Omega Flowey's fight. Granted, it couldn't stop them then, but in a Pacifist run Frisk is so determined that Asriel can't even get the chance to close the game. We've come too far. Death is powerless before us. Plus, it lets us spam healing Dreams and defensive Hopes. Also, A S R I E L is canonically more powerful than Omega Flowey. Omega Flowey can be brought down to zero (even if he can reset it, which is nullified by Frisk's own refusal to stay dead); Asriel literally cannot be hurt in the fight since his DEFENSE is Infinity (as is his ATTACK).
Considering that Omega Flowey's attacks (while more rapid) seem to drain less of one's health bar than a direct hit from Asriel's attacks, I'd say that its more a case of Omega Flowey being intimidation over effectiveness. Which isn't to say he ISN'T effective, just less than he would appear (as an aside, I never died to Omega Flowey, but I repeatedly "died" to Asriel).
Remember guys there are three tracks that are played during your final battle. These three tracks make two sentences. Hopes and dreams, burn to despair, and save the world. Aserial believes hopes and dreams burn to despair. He constantly taunts you that no one can, save you. With unparalled determination, Frisk believes hopes and dreams save the world

when you listen to deltarune's soundtrack... there's definitely something eerily missing. the fact that when you first save, you're overwriting kris's file. the fact that the music seems more sinister, and the soul you carry doesn't seem to be kris's. The fact that none of your choices affect the ending. It's like a polar opposite to undertale...
You should have noticed it already in the first 5 minutes *SPOILER ALERT* Kris's bed is somehow gloomy while the other one (perhaps Asriel's) filled with throphies and bright coloured. Also the character that we control in Undertale should have been there as well. One more thing. The name F R I S K K R I S (no F letter) This could mean something, no?
JoeJacker (spoilers) I saw this from another comment but they assume the absence of an “F” stands for freedom, specifically Kris’ freedom which he reclaims at the end of the chapter. (His intentions are entirely controlled by us throughout the game)
I actually just played this game a week or so back. I actually didn't much care for it on release due to just watching a half of a playthrough but it's just one of those games you had to experience to enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment...
It's all but confirmed the "narrator" of Undertale is the soul of Chara, sharing Frisk's body and commenting on things and observing Frisk's actions. Usually he's pretty snarky and playful with his commentary. On True Pacifist however, when Asriel refuses to let you move and all seems lost, Chara stops being passive and encourages you to hold on, and give advice. "Maybe...with what little power you have...you can SAVE something else." And after you save everyone, he practically begs you to save his brother as well. Chara was never evil, and is on your side the entore game. It's a great feeling to prove to him that sometimes simple kindness and love can work.
I can't pick a favorite track. The entirety of Undertale's musical score is flawless. Even Dog Song and Temmie Village are _objectively_ quality tunes.
***** Pathetic house gets a pass because it's just a slowed-down version of Spider Dance's first bit. I consider it an easter egg, and even then, it's kinda catchy in it's own right. Meat Factory isn't available without screwing with the game's files, nor is it music...

It's so nice to see such recent comments. Everyday I go into these thinking "people don't listen to these anymore" and then I see a comment like yours and it fills me with (dare I say it) DETERMINATION knowing that all of us Undertale fans are still out there.
I think it was my first time ever crying for real in a videogame. Undertale might not be the best game ever, and to this day it's mostly memes that keep the community alive. But it was one of my most unique game experiences, and I'll never forget how it felt knowing that I had finally achieved a happy ending.

No matter how old I get, Undertale will always hold a special place in my soul and heart. I loved every single thing about it, and its helped me become a much better, peaceful and loving being overall. I don't care if people will hate me for loving the game, because to me, they are just that, haters, trolls, and idiots. I went from being in a very dark place, to now being happy, cheerful, and very, very loving, thanks to this game. I learned that I don't have the heart to hurt anyone in a game like that, even if it is just that, a game.
I love Undertale greatly, and I always will. I always shall. Thank you Toby Fox for making it, and thank you once more, for helping me find the light.

You know Asriel, you are right, this game has also helped me be a much better person. Before, I used to be one of those guys with all those cringe comps, cancer, hur hur le edgy may may, and all that trash. But with Undertale, it's given me that special warmth and feeling I have never felt since a long time, especially all the shit I've been through in the first half of 2016, I even felt that I was dead on the inside and just end up dying this year. But with Undertale, this game actually helped me with my depression, help me find new friends, and learn how to understand people.
I can go on and ramble about this, but I think you get my point.
Fun fact: this is toby Fox's favorite song in the undertale soundtrack, and this song took him more time to make than the others.

I remember a fringe conspiracy theorist noticing an amazing new anagram for Asriel Dreemurr as well. Everybody, at this point, knows that _Asriel Dreemurr_ anagrams to _Serial Murderer_. But the conspiracy dude noted that it also anagrams to _Israel Redeem[e]r_. So it's interesting: in his 'fallen' state, he's the 'serial murderer' whom only a service-to-self (Pacifist) Frisk can forgive and cleanse of sin. Once he's forgiven, the _Serial Murderer_ part of him is replaced by the _Israel Redeemr_ part, where he devotes his life to ensuring the well-being of all.

Whoever played that guitar, whether it was Toby or someone else, they did a PHENOMENAL job.
It’s actually a digital guitar that Toby got online. He then inserted the guitar into FL Studio, his Digital Audio Workstation, and made a melody out of it, like he does for almost all of his songs.

Came back to this after Deltarune Chapter 2. It’s amazing how even now, this series makes me cry, even during moments with little to no emotional impact- JUST because I remember the first game, and Asriel. Still crying for the goat boy, and now for Kris who misses him, to this day.

A really well done final boss, and an even better final boss theme. The "SAVE" method of defeating it reminds me of the Mother franchise and how you had to defeat the final bosses though odd methods. The boss getting the rainbow-techicolor-acidtrip backround when the guitar part started reminds me of those games too.

I can tell this game is going to have a nostalgic revival in not too long, hell that's why I am here, Undertale is now 7 years old going on to 8 years old and I haven't played since it's release. Been getting REALLY nostalgic and I can see that amplifying with the 10th anniversary that is coming up in just two or so years.

The thing that I love about undertale is that it takes simple game mechanics like erasing a save file, using save points and turn them into major points of the game, especially in the genocide run, that make you feel guilty in taking away the characters happy ending, resetting it without their knowledge, going back and killing them. That's the main reason why I love undertale, because I don't think and game developer has ever thought of using game mechanics that way. In most games these days, it always seems like the only option is to fight everybody, but with undertale, your given the choice to do the humane thing, and spare everybody. With Flowey telling you to leave them alone to enjoy the happy end, your given the choice to put the game down, never to disturb them again. Or your given the same choice Flowey had, to experiment with different endings. It's not the gaming side of someone that brought out, but rather some one being placed in fictional scenario, and having to make a

Turnip of Power Asriel doesn't get his "good ending" though. He's still a flower, still can't feel emotions. Sure, Flowey isn't a jerk anymore, but that doesn't mean he's gotten his "happy ending".
+Lauren Chaput Asriel is at peace with himself, at least. Asriel was meant to die long ago; Frisk just helped him move on to the other side. Asriel accepted that his best friend wasn't a good person, but reminded himself of what good truly was in the process. He might not feel anything anymore, but that's because he went to the wrong people who were powerless against it; Chara was able to make Flowey feel fear. Frisk will be able to make Flowey feel whole again.
At this point of the game... I was completely on the verge of tears. I knew I did well in sparing Flowey at this point, I know not giving in his twisted view of "kill or be killed" was the way to go even if he did screw everything up in the end. But when I saw Asriel... I knew I did the right thing. And then, the game let's you save everyone you befriended. Words cannot express my feelings when Papyrus expressed he wouldn't capture me because I'm his friend, or Sans telling me he was rootin' for me. Undyne telling me that not all humans are bad. And reminding Toriel about my preference, so she and Asgore would remember who I am. Now this is an ending. It's mostly the reason I cannot go back and do a No-Mercy playthrough. The thought of murdering the same people who believed in me (or should I say Frisk) this whole time... I cannot bring myself to it. This game, I swear.

Frisk is a separate person. You control him, but that doesn't mean he is you. In fact the game a lot of times implies Chara (The Fallen Child), Frisk, and you are a different entity. Frisk is a child that loves peace, and such nature only comes on in the peaceful run, where you don't let The Fallen Child to influence him. Chara has been mentioned to be the "evil" that resides in our hearts, and when he totally controls Frisk (Genocide Run) in the end, no matter what you do, he kills the "player" (as in, he crashes the game itself) and when you turn the game on again, he only let's you play again if you sell your soul to him.

Every person you know or have known are still technically nothing more than the sum of the memories of experiences you've had with them. Fictional or artificial experiences are no different -- "real" or not, all experiences are in your head, and have actual real effects on the people that experienced them. Look into the whole "fictional characters are real" philosophical argument if you have the time, it's really interesting stuff. Santa Claus and superheroes are often the most popular examples for these arguments.
Anyway; I can't bring myself to replay Undertale, but not just because I'd feel awful for taking back the characters' happy ending -- replaying the game more and more would means I'd see all the scripted dialogue and interactions for what they are, and thus they would seem less and less real to me each time, and eventually, I would no longer care, because "they're only characters in a game." And I don't want that. Flowey is the very personification of that phenomena.

The SAVE file is located in *AppData/Local/UNDERTALE* Copy everything in that folder and paste it somewhere else. To get to AppData hit the 'Windows' and 'R' at the same time. A small box will open called Run. Simply type %appdata% into the box. This'll take you to *AppData/Roaming*, just go back one folder.
Now you can reset the game share your LOVE with everyone. But be careful or... *you're gonna have a bad time.

Sometimes, I wish I could just lose my memories so I could get into Undertale all over again. I miss the days when I just got into it thanks to my cousin and still had plenty to learn about the game. The songs were very fun to listen to for the first time and memorize over time, and each character had their own story to tell and for me to learn about. It truly gave me a special feeling, learning everything about Undertale for the first time. I miss my childhood and wish I could get it back but I never can. All I can do is listen to these songs for some nostalgia

The first playthrough and perhaps a couple regretted decisions for a first reset (from one point of the game, or reset to the beginning of the ruins) is what defined you as a person. If you were doing a genocide run from the start you might've finished it, were frustrated and quit the game, if you reset after some character made you regret that, and try out something less demonic, not just saving the underground, any possible neutral ending. You had the power of what was going to be done (until you didn't after and if a completed genocide run), the way I see the games reset mechanics isn't for checking out whatever can and can't be done: it's a way of telling you you always have a chance of changing who you used to be (unless if, again, you've sold your soul, then it's no longer you, everything you've done can be changed by the person controlling your soul).
Everyone has a chance of redemption, no one says you won't feel bad after realising what you've done, or if anyone would forgive you, if you're *insert determination joke here*, and have a shining resolve then you quite literally control your fate

You know? I know this boss is a total unlosable victory lap for the player but you know what I DONT CARE! That kind of fight has its place and here its perfect. This fight, this is your reward. You did it, you got through the whole game without killing and made friends with everyone, now enjoy your moment.
+Crimzon Chi Kinda makes sense though. The monsters are never quite attacking you physically, but your soul - it hurts more when they have a greater capacity to hurt you, or for you to be hurt. I think this was touched on when Sans explains what LV and EXP mean in relation to how powerful/weak you are in a fight, and in a way, explains in-universe why you were basically indestructible in both the true genocide and pacifist routes.

Some probable explanations:
Asriel became less cruel the second he regained the monster souls to replace his old one. His real motivations, buried underneath denial and delusion as Flowey, became harder to ignore, so he was less psychotically nuts in combat like Omega Flowey. Alternatively, the loving monster souls inside him were dulling his power against his will (whether or not he realized this).
At this point, with all her friends enslaved right in front of her after motivating her with their own determination, Frisk is far too determined to let death stop them like it did in Omega Flowey's fight. Granted, it couldn't stop them then, but in a Pacifist run Frisk is so determined that Asriel can't even get the chance to close the game. We've come too far. Death is powerless before us. Plus, it lets us spam healing Dreams and defensive Hopes.
Also, A S R I E L is canonically more powerful than Omega Flowey. Omega Flowey can be brought down to zero (even if he can reset it, which is nullified by Frisk's own refusal to stay dead); Asriel literally cannot be hurt in the fight since his DEFENSE is Infinity (as is his ATTACK).

Considering that Omega Flowey's attacks (while more rapid) seem to drain less of one's health bar than a direct hit from Asriel's attacks, I'd say that its more a case of Omega Flowey being intimidation over effectiveness. Which isn't to say he ISN'T effective, just less than he would appear (as an aside, I never died to Omega Flowey, but I repeatedly "died" to Asriel).
Remember guys there are three tracks that are played during your final battle. These three tracks make two sentences. Hopes and dreams, burn to despair, and save the world. Aserial believes hopes and dreams burn to despair. He constantly taunts you that no one can, save you. With unparalled determination, Frisk believes hopes and dreams save the world

I actually just played this game a week or so back. I actually didn't much care for it on release due to just watching a half of a playthrough but it's just one of those games you had to experience to enjoy.

It's all but confirmed the "narrator" of Undertale is the soul of Chara, sharing Frisk's body and commenting on things and observing Frisk's actions. Usually he's pretty snarky and playful with his commentary. On True Pacifist however, when Asriel refuses to let you move and all seems lost, Chara stops being passive and encourages you to hold on, and give advice.

And after you save everyone, he practically begs you to save his brother as well.
Chara was never evil, and is on your side the entore game. It's a great feeling to prove to him that sometimes simple kindness and love can work.
I can't pick a favorite track. The entirety of Undertale's musical score is flawless. Even Dog Song and Temmie Village are _objectively_ quality tunes.

Undertale might not be the best game ever, and to this day it's mostly memes that keep the community alive.
