  • Are your bypass loppers getting dull? Is it harder than it used to be to trim limbs and bushes? In this video, I will explain how they work that is different from other cutting tools and how to sharpen them. I also go over the tools needed to do a good job.

This guy really knows his stuff! He helped me put up an electric fence for small animals invading my garden. I followed his instructions on sharpening my loppers and they cut really well now. Obviously I was doing it wrong.🤨 Thanks, Wayne!

What a homespun way of showing how to sharpen. In my 80 plus years, I never thought that not lifting a file on the return stroke wears out the file faster. Thanks much, Wayne.

So glad i clicked on your video! Very thorough and easy to understand without being so long. A lot of you tube channels try to entertain and make the instructions unnecessarily long. This was easy to understand and to the point. I'm subscribing now to see what else I might learn.

Hi! I was searching for how to sharpen mine and thank goodness your video popped up. 😃 I have both files and I will be sharpening them today and cutting some dead tree limbs. I've had to maintain my yard and learn everything since my husband had two strokes. He liked to do the yardwork, I did too, but I guess he was afraid I'd hurt myself? I don't know, but I'm learning a lot and am excited! Thank you so very much for the video. You explained it so very well. I became a subscriber. Can't wait to watch your other videos! Thank you once again! 😀

Boy this saved me $79 dollars!!!!!!! Thanks. I have a hand tremor so I put 2 layers of painters tape on the blade I was not sharpening to keep from banging into it. Tape residue came off when I oiled the cutters after sharpening.

Thanks. I hadn't realized that other jaw needed to be a certain kind of sharp. The additional problem I discovered was that twigs were causing the jaws to readily part from each other, making a poor cut. I tightened the four nuts (each with one or two spring washers from the factory) to make the jaws less willing to part from each other. This made opening/closing the handles a bit harder, but fixed the problem completely.

Excellent thanks. I had my loppers for less than a yr and they are chipping. I haven't done enough in a yr to justify this chipping IMHO. I have some hand sharpeners: one for lawn mower, the other for smaller tools. Do you recommend using those devices that just glide over the blade?

It would be best not to. You can but an angle grinder tends to be too aggressive and will remove way too much metal. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
