  • Tom Cunliffe visits Bembridge Harbour and feasts us with thoughts of holystones, watering Nelson's fleet and the unique British Pork Pie.

I saw Bembridge lifeboat station there in the background. In 1966 me, my brother and mum were rescued by the lifeboat from our old cornish smack that we lived on in st Helens. Sam Watson was the coxswain. In 1966 I went for a job as second boatman at Bembridge sailing club. Sam was head boatman, he remembered the rescue and I got the job. I had a lovely couple of years looking after the One designs and the Redwings. Thanks Tom for some great material.

I touched bottom on the first left meander of the river out. Luckily we dangled a couple of women off the boom to starboard and floated off and out.

Please tell us more about "the colours". many of us younger guys , with no marine training don't really no the rules and traditions, and can't do the colours justice. Please review the procedures and customs for us ....

As an old Leicestershire lad, it’s good to hear that Tom enjoys a Pork Pie (as much as his Fray Bentos pie). No need for a tin opener! th-cam.com/video/qw83sWT_1d4/w-d-xo.html
