Great books of fiction are universal, knowing neither time no space 🙂. In France the Petit Nicolas series, hilarious books illustrated with great talent, which describes the lives of elementary school boys, both at school and at home, and was first published over sixty years ago could still apply to my schoolboy years - I am nearly forty - and very likely to today's schoolboys too. I really enjoy her interviews. She’s 100% right about reading to a child. It’s a wonderful bonding experience. I read to my daughter every single night & in turn, she reads to her children.
Such a nice interview reminiscing about books read as a child. It's funny what the Queen consort said about how we like to be that little bit scared as a child. I used to read a lot of short horror stories in bed from about the age of 9 then when it was time to turn off the light i'd set myself a goal of turning the light off and having to be in bed within 10 secs and under the duvet or the monster would get me from under the bed, even if I didn't make it within the time set I still read the scary books every night before bed :D
What a wonderful interview. Books are so important to a child’s development and to spark the imagination. It’s wonderful to see someone who loves books as much as I do. As a US grandmother I read to my grandkids all the time.

The Andrew Lang Fairy Book series, Hans Christian Anderson, Winnie the Pooh, the Childcraft enyclopedias - just some of my favorite reading memories of growing up in the '50s. And, back then, many of the books by British authors retained the British spelling and word usage, so I learned (learnt) a lot about the differences just from reading. It's sad, I think, that American children are no longer allowed to read British literature with British word usage. (Harry Potter, for example!). Well, they are allowed, of course, but then the books themselves must be imported, not bought in the USA.
'I have always been a bookworm but I struggled to get my son to read anything other than set books from school. When he was about 12 we were on holiday with my parents and he decided to pick up the book I had just finished and started to read it. From then on he devoured all the books in the bookcase - from Jane Austen to Winston Churchill and everything in between!

Well, Camilla has had the last laugh. How she must revel in, "Your Majesty" after being called all those unsavory epithets. Really, between Camilla and Meghan, it's all any little girl needs to realize that she, too, could rise from middle class to the heights of social class just by making her pudenda available to a randy princeling.
Well, I suppose that on the other hand, she could have gone as Lady Diana, born into the nobility, did, and worked very hard to keep up the morale of the men stationed at Wellington Barracks. I recall two young men referring to the late Princess of Wales as "the Toast of the Officers Mess".
