Rented this car on Turo. Had 130k miles. Check engine light on, abs light on, PSM light on. Still ran like a champ. Hit 120 with ease on the freeway. Third gear in this car is just so addicting.
"whats up everybody its subaruwrx fan" "of course this is the ______________" "so i'm driving along this bumpy park road" "so let's turn onto this backroad here" "so i've been driving this car for a while now"
I love the Cayman and will definitely purchase one someday. I don't think you can do any better in the mid-engine, RWD segment. It's the ultimate back road driver's car on a budget if you go used.
I had this car for a couple of years and I have to say, it is the most fun to drive car in the market. Easy, powerful enough (feels like a Porsche, unlike the 2.7 version) and FUN!!
The 2.7 is just as good, test drove both and went with 2.7 for long term reliability.. No bore scoring issues. Extra power would be nice sure but this is a momentum car and all the major YT car guys say you don't need the 3.4 unless your a track star..
@@obi-wankenobi7160 Sadly I am a power addict... I for example did test drive a 300ccm 2 stroke KTM that has about 60hp. But I was dissapointed, it felt anemic lacking the brutal torquer my Yahama WR450 4 stroke had. So I did bay a brand new 2019 KTM 500 4 strok, same HP but LOT more bottom end power, so much so that I got suprice wheelie doing 110km/h and geared down giving it full send just to see the sky for a moment lol. That never happened on the 450ccm and certenly not on the 300 2 stroke :) I was very happy with the 500ccm, sometime more power is what you need , and the 500 is about 4 time more the power I will ever need for driving offroad, but it is fun to smoke cars on the road sometimes when passing them.
The porsche cayman is my dream car. Beautiful machine that has everything a sports car needs and nothing more. Also, you have a very charismatic camera presence.
Porsche Cayman and Boxer is not produced anymore since summer 2024, prices is now skyrocketing so if you ever want to fulfill your dream now is time to act before prices goes even more insane... I plan to buy a older Cayman if I am able to sell half my stocks that on paper is worth a lot of money. For now a used older Cayman cost less then a midrange new car.
Loving the new intro and the camera angles, well though out video matt, keep up the great work! also my uncle used to have a cayman just like this, it was such a fun car even just to ride in!
Glad you reviewed this vehicle. I have been looking at a few different Porsches, and with this being one of them i needed more info and a test drive type of video. Thank You.
Thanks for reviewing this model,I plan to buy one in future these are often overlooked and dont seem popular but theyre dynamically like a baby supercar
Great review! This car was recommended by a friend as I have been looking for a drivers car. Your opinion seems to be on point with virtually every other review, these are excellent cars. I test drive one tomorrow and I must say I am looking forward to it. Take care, and keep the good reviews coming. :-)
Keep up the great work! You are a car guy and it's great to see you having fun test driving lots of different cars. I like that you are "positive" reviewer. Too many haters out there already ;^) Glad to see you really enjoy Porsches. I get the same reaction from passengers when I floor the gas pedal too ;^) The Cayman S is a great sports car and it's great to see how you can appreciate it even after a very short drive. My only suggestion would be to find a good canyon road so you can really explore the handling and get a buddy to record more exterior shots going through the corners. Longer drives through the curves is where these cars really begin to shine. great job!
It’s definitely a great car. Honestly, if you get a 2006 Cayman it will do the same job as some of the newer years. You can always upgrade the stereo because of the kits that are available. Anyway, love your reviews and certainly enjoyed this one!
You're starting to become a lot more collected in your reviews. That's a good thing you're not yelling and waving your hands everywhere like you used to. You now seem more mature, and respected.
What kind of adjustments does it have for the steering? My arms is 10cm shorter then most people arms so on cars without adjustment and telescopic steering I have to install steering wheel that is 10cm closer (Bought a Sabelt Rally steering wheel I used in both my Ascona B and Mercedes 190E that did that and it worked perfectly).
If you are a grease monkey and like working on your own cars then Porsche's can be fun to maintain and not that expensive. Just keep in mind that if something outside of regular maintenance does go wrong that Porsche Dealer Labor costs are about $175 per hour as compared to $75-100 per hour for something like toyota/subaru/mitsubishi. Oil changes are every 10k miles, although I recommend 5k, and will cost ya about $100 for 9 quarts of oil and the filter. Recommended brake service pads/rotors/sensors will come about every 50k miles and will run about $400-500 per axle for parts and you do the labor yourself. If you just do pads then about $100 per axle. New tires all around will run about $1100. As with any car buying parts straight from the Dealer is wasting money. You can find many discount Porsche Parts websites and the Forums are packed with tons of do it yourself articles and photos. I love working on my Porsche's. It's one more way to bond with your car and really appreciate the brand and great engineering that is put in to each car. These cars are bullet proof and don't believe the bad hype about IMS Failures. It can and does happen, but it is very, very rare.
qikqbn77 Oil changes are recommended every 18 or 20,000 miles more like it.. although yes 5,000 is much more sensible.. but Mobil one oil is very expensive, 0w40 I believe.
+qikqbn77 Mobil 1 0w40 is what my CLS55 uses as well, and it's about $6/quart, so roughly $50-60 for 8-9 quarts and the filter is usually Bosch or Mann and they're maybe $12-15, so oil changes should be more in the $70 neighborhood. Brakes, depends on where you go. If you are getting OEM parts then yes it will be pricey, but you can get 3rd party performance parts for the same price if not cheaper for brakes. Are tires seriously that expensive???? Seriously considering a Cayman S once I sell the CLS. I know the power delivery is completely different between the 2 cars but I'm just curious as to what I can expect when I get on it. The CLS I own is about 500hp/530tq, and boy does it go. I am just curious what 290-300hp will feel like in such a light car. Also, how does a Cayman S handle mods? Like ecu firmware flashes and intakes and, really anything you can do to bump the power up, outside of a full blown turbo kit ?? I'd hate to kill it's longevity with a serious mod, but was curious what it could get up to (hoping for at least stock 911 c4s or cs levels) without hindering the life of the engine and components.
been enjoying your vids for awhile now. The acceleration runs in all your videos and comments on steering feel and handling are great. Like the new editing and notes you have. Also like that not everything is good - saying negative things about cars too. The summary/thoughts after driving the car for awhile to get a feel for the car is a nice touch. subscribed.
those are getting cheapy now, is it a good idea to buy a 10 year old porsche cayman?? what do i need to look out for? are they O.K. to keep for a everyday normal average man like me??
JP3 don't buy from private sellers. buy from dealers only and don't get too high milage. check the carfax and owner history. basically u want to make sure nothing is broken and it hasn't been wrecked.
Great review! I'm in the market for a 2007+ Cayman or Cayman S. What I really liked about your review, was the driving in winter/snow conditions. Glad to see that the car handles really well, being a mid-engine car. Can you tell us, what winter tires did this one have on? I'm planning on buying it as a daily driver, and being in the North-East US I would want to put on winter tires. Thanks!
At 5'9" you should have plenty of headroom, and those perfect 9 and 3 notches, don't put your thumbs in there, any pro driver will tell you that you keep thumbs on the steering wheel in case of sudden movement of the wheel (unless you like having broken thumbs) I guess Red Bull really does give this boy wings, eh ?
Great review. I've always enjoyed your thorough reviews and I've been waiting for this review. Definitely earned a subscribe. I would love it if you could possibly get your hands on a boxster.
Kuwan Sutton lmao that highschool uniform looks stolen from the blue devils, wish my school had good uniforms but they don't, but at least I got good uniforms in drum corps >"< 10 days to move ins
How would you describe the acceleration punch compared to the C5 corvette? How does it feels? I would expect, that the corvette feels much more powerfull because of much more torque. the truth?
Hey man, love your videos! If i could make a request and ask you if you could do a review on a new 2015 Chevy Colorado or GMC canyon that'd be great! Thanks and great video man!
Hey dude, I watch your channel a lot and love your vids but I just wanted to give some constructive criticism. Every other motor journalist on youtube give vague descriptions and things that mean nothing to me, and I feel like you're going down that path. Unlimited praise and you don't give anything of substance that gives me more insight into the car. For example " Its very communicative" A better description might say that its so sharp, the throttle is almost twitchy. Or tell us how does it communicate? Does the steering vibrate or if it lets you know how the road is going? Or instead of saying the centre console is good quality, maybe let us know if that silver on the dash is aluminium or plastic? Or even use your mustang's & Brz's shifter as a contrast to give a clearer picture. Or if it's as good as every other journalist says it is? Regular people, we want to watch your reviews to gain actual insight and not hear things like " Its a driver's car" or "its so well balanced" or " its so good to drive". We know this. Additionally, having owned the mustang and brz, you can use those cars to contrast the cayman and let us know if it satisfies more in someway or if the journalists just over hype the car. Not meaning to be harsh! And its just my opinion, love your vids!!
Don't get me wrong I love the 2014 cayman s especially the rear and the gt4 is one of my dream track cars but there's just something about the original caymans especially with the techart front bumper
subaruwrxfan How's this like in comparison to the 370? Both are rough, no nonsense sports cars and set out to do the same goals. Details would be appreciated!
I love the new intro Matt! The Cayman to me is almost like the handling of the BRZ and the powerband of the 350/370z. I really like how the Cayman looks too. And for 30K.... What a bargain. Oh yeah and what camera do you use to record yourself in the car?
Great review! It's so genuine and all the smiles made me smile too haha. Would you recommend getting the 2006 or jump to the 2009's? The 2009's have new engines, the new PDK Transmissions, and just a bunch of modern upgrades. However, the PDK is automatic, and I'm guessing you'd almost force me to get a manual for a porsche. I have a 2012 c250 sport sedan (it's alright) which has many modern tech upgrades i enjoy; so i'm not sure if I should pay more and get the newer model. Thanks and I'll definitely subscribe!
Julius, this may be the best comment you've ever been given in your life. I used to have a 2006 Cayman S. The first corner you take your reaction is 'holy shit I'm in a supercar. Either get 2006-2008 Cayman S with a radio adapter to get Bluetooth. Or buy a 2013-2016 Cayman S or Boxster S
Yes. Look at the times on car and driver (biggest car magazine): 2006 Cayman S (manual) 0-60 - 4.8 seconds 1/4 mile 13.3 seconds 2016 Nissan 370z (manual) 0-60 - 5.1 seconds 1/4 mile - 13.7 seconds Sources: media.caranddriver.com/files/2006-bmw-z4-m-coupe-vs-porsche-cayman-sbmw-z4-powertrain-chart.pdf www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2016-nissan-370z-coupe-test-review
Great review! I know this question is extremely late, but do you think this car is more fun to drive overall than a turbocharged ND1 Miata (that also has a upgraded suspension and brakes)? I have a budget of 25k for the most fun sports car I can and just can't pick which one... Thanks!
Why do people go on about aggressive front end being desire able... I actually don't think this looks anything except elegant. I don't want aggressive lol. Love your otherwise enthusiastic review, I'm current shopping for a Cayman 💛
Great review! Thank you for mentioning our exhaust system.
That looks like a blast to drive matt! Im jealous! Good job!
was just on ur channel before this...liive stream whaaaat.. lol

Hi Matt , u said u used to work at a Porsche dealership , can u please talk about the maintenance cost overall in owning a used cayman s , thanks

Awesome review! I'm not a Porsche kind of guy but I'd definatly would own a Cayman, I love em.

Good job Matt! Great videos! Can't wait to see more on your Mustang. Well done.
I've got one and it goes where you point it and sounds awsome and goes round corners like it really on rails, and is ment to be driven x
Great review! Always enjoy your videos.
I like the new bar where you explain the pros and cons, keep it up :)
Loving the new logo and intro, man!
glad you finally got a proper intro lol keep up the good vids yo
Love the new intro Matt, nice!
Love the new intro Matt.. Did you notice the clutch being insanely hard to depress? That's something I've noticed about Porsches around this year
Great videos too man I love how you really go into details
Hi Matt , make you rite about the brakes, I drove a friends Cayman S a while back and I thought MAN I ain’t going to stop here !!!!!!!
Matt...on your next weekly update could you incorporate something like your 5 favorite cars that you have reviewed?
It's hard to pick only 5!
6:00 what's that crowd magnet doing there
Really nice new intro....keep up the good work!!!
Love your videos man. Greetings from the UK
How much are these nowadays??? I'm interested in buying one or a Mazda Miata 2016
+Jason Gonzalez dollars or pounds
+Joey Ros Dollars
I'm digging the intro. Nice video bro keep it up
read somewhere that these engines can blow due to an Intermediate Shaft Bearing defect. Has Porsche addressed this issue?
those are getting cheapy now, is it a good idea to buy a 10 year old porsche cayman?? what do i need to look out for? are they O.K. to keep for a everyday normal average man like me??
JP3 don't buy from private sellers. buy from dealers only and don't get too high milage. check the carfax and owner history. basically u want to make sure nothing is broken and it hasn't been wrecked.
Even just watching you driving this made me smile
Great video one of the best ones I have seen from you. Can you please review a infinity G35 coupe I would love to see that.
what's the song from 0:01 to 0:17
1:32 Lol love the shot of your Mustang in the back
How many cars do u have and how much did did the cars all together cost u
Love these cars i've only driven the Cayman base same year but still loved it!
You should review a 2006 pontiac gto
are they loud and noisy stock?
Oh man been looking at getting one of these so thought i'd look at some videos, I think i'm sold after seeing the cup holders
are there issues with traction in the snow?
I need to get one of these!
very less bro there is only couple of them around nj very hard to find between 50k-100kmileage
Thanks!
Driving a RWD Porsche on a back road and accelerating like that on a potentially icy road in winter is tricky business.
The new intro is sick!!

new changes are good! Intro is good, so is the new camera angle!
If I could only have one car and didn't need a third or fourth seat this would be my car. Otherwise I have an S4, Boxster S and GTI. Great review!
How would you describe the acceleration punch compared to the C5 corvette? How does it feels? I would expect, that the corvette feels much more powerfull because of much more torque. the truth?
in for an answer too! wrxfan, haaalp.
would love to see a hellcat soon and a trailblazer ss or jeep gc srt8
Are these cars expensive to maintain?looking to get one
Yes, but worth it!
Hey man, love your videos! If i could make a request and ask you if you could do a review on a new 2015 Chevy Colorado or GMC canyon that'd be great! Thanks and great video man!
Is it naturally aspirated, because I thought only the base model was. Didn't they change the engine in 2007 to Turbo?
All Caymans come out of the factory naturally aspirated. You can find some that have been turbo modified.

should i buy one of these or a 370z subaruwrxfan?
Maintenance on the Z will be cheaper. For driving experience, search "Chris Harris Cayman 370Z" he compares the two including a GT-86 (BRZ).
You have to do a hyundai genesis coupe 3.8 track! I hear a lot about them it would be great to see that review! Or any 3.8 genesis
I remember a video where he talked about the cars he wasn't fans of, the genesis being one of them, never knew why though it seems like a cool car.
I love my Genesis! Great car!
A lot of people say so that's why we need to see one on this amazing channel!!!!
can this beat a 370z cuz thats a 330hp and is probly close to or as light as the porsche
Yes. Look at the times on car and driver (biggest car magazine):
2006 Cayman S (manual)
0-60 - 4.8 seconds
1/4 mile 13.3 seconds
2016 Nissan 370z (manual)
0-60 - 5.1 seconds
1/4 mile - 13.7 seconds

Can you tell me what you do to have so much energy.
Can u plz do a review on Porsche 911 or a corvette 1988
Great review! I know this question is extremely late, but do you think this car is more fun to drive overall than a turbocharged ND1 Miata (that also has a upgraded suspension and brakes)? I have a budget of 25k for the most fun sports car I can and just can't pick which one... Thanks!
Why do people go on about aggressive front end being desire able... I actually don't think this looks anything except elegant. I don't want aggressive lol.
Love your otherwise enthusiastic review, I'm current shopping for a Cayman 💛
Great review!
