So much information on each project for noobies like me 😀 I also like that you don’t talk for 30 minutes before you get into the project or tutorial. Thank you for this tutorial. I made the monogram disk with your great instructions. The item cut out perfectly with the knife blade on my maker. I used basswood. I learned quite a bit from this tutorial! 😊
Great tutorial! For anyone interested in experimenting more with basswood on the Explore, I found this video with a person using greater pressure and more passes to get generally clean cuts. I haven’t tried it yet since I’m rushing to get Christmas presents done 😱 but it looks interesting.
Great tip! I always suggest a test cut - design a small circle on your canvas in Design Space and experiment with just that! Number of passes and pressure, to see what works best with your machine!

Great video!! Can cricut maker 3 do this? Seems I can’t see to add the basswood material on Set material to make it. Really sad as I was ready to give it a go 😢
Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing. I have a quick question as I am still learning how to use my Cricut maker. I noticed that chose not to use "more pressure" when printing, why? I would think that more pressure would have enabled the knife to go completely through the wood. Would more pressure ruin the basswood/balsawood because it's so thin?
I do choose more pressure for just about everything. Using more pressure, there will still be just as many passes most likely. It is important to keep an eye on your machine when cutting wood.
I just purchased the Cricut Maker today and I am new to your channel. I really enjoyed your video. I will search your videos for cutting aluminum. I would love to see how thick of aluminum you have cut and where you purchased it. Most of the aluminum videos are cutting cans.

Hi Jennifer! Hi Mara! Please email my team at hello@jennifermaker.com explaining which project you are doing, which Cricut machine you are using, which mat and as much detail as you can so that they can better help you. 💗
@JenniferMaker so randomly coming by this now, but wanted to let you know with the monograms font, at least the one I downloaded from dafont, you can use lowercase letters to get the monogram letters without the circle! May help save you some time.
You should make the gray circle area you are slicing larger and it will cut your circle boarder as well as the letters. You just have to resize it. It will save you a step or 2.
Hey Jennifer! Question... When cutting basswood projects, does the blade cut deeper after adding additional passes? I add about 5 or 6 more passes and it seems like it doesn't go all the way through or enough to remove the design without damaging the back of the finished project.
This video is great. Thank you for this. I have a Cricut Air 2 and I see, from your video here, what happens when you cut basswood. You had set it to cut 5x. Could you have put it back to cut more times?
What a wonderfully in depth tutorial. Love the comparisons and the explanations to go with. Thank you for another great lesson!!! Off to buy some wood!!!

I have watched a couple of your videos and I'm unclear on one detail. It sounds like you're using the deep cut blade for the explore and knife blade for the maker, is that correct? Is the knife point better than the deep cut on the maker, for cutting basswoood and veneer? Thank you for showing your trial and error! Hopefully learning from that will same me some time and materials.
Great videos mam ,I am following it. Is it their any manual cutter for big picture decals , if u want I can share the video, tools is used for potrate detailed works
Laynie Fingers she is definitely promoting the maker. Many of these you tubers are sponsored by Cricut to promote the Maker. They are not bing truthful with their viewers. I have a Cricut air 2 it cuts everything the Maker does. I have not tried fabric other than felt and craft foam. No problems. I quest the lies will stop when Cricut makes a new machine
@@Parisandham so the Air Explorer 2 should cut the wood with deep cutting blade ok? I need to buy the blade and don't want to waste $ if it is not going to work.
How think of a wood maker can take to cut nicely? Assuming Balsa wood is the one you would recommend us to use for stronger material? Thanks for the tips 😀
Hi love your video. I would like to know the thickest wood that can be used? I want atleast 1 inch thick and doing script. I haven't purchased yet I'm looking for advice and you are very good at this. Thank you
I have a verold cricut that takes those small mats. Does it work on those too? If not would you recommend that I purchase a cricut maker 3 bundle or a different device? I have not been using my cricut in over 8 years due to being lazy and I didn't have many cartridges. Thank you
Hi Jennifer! I love your projects. Can you show me how to make a large wood key on a Cricuit Air 2? I would like to give it to a real estate agent for a gift.
i noticed that on the maker it did 14 passes, but on the explorer only 5, and the difference in the stiffness of the wood is because of the hardness of the woods, why would you do 14 on one and only 5 on the other? Bass wood is a much harder wood then balsa.
I used the knife blade with the Maker and the deep point blade on the Explore. The deep point blade has a 60 degree angle instead of a 45 degree. Maybe that is the difference. That is a good question that I really am not sure of the answer.
Hello Jennifer hope you will read this. Is the housing in all maker blades the same? I have the premium fine blade point and housing already and wanted to purchase the knife blade do I need to buy the housing as well?
The Fine Point blade and the Bonded Fabric blade can use the same housing. Here is some good information on Cricut blades. help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009432294-All-About-Cricut-Blades-and-Machine-Tools#explore
Hi Jennifer, I used 2mm thick balsawood, the strong grip matte and the knife blade. Despite 7 extra passes, the Cricut is not even halfway through the balsa wood. What can I do? Thanks in advance for a prompt reply.
The puzzle I made is for my daughter who is a teenager. :). However, do what you feel comfortable with when it comes to what you make for young children.
The rotary blade is strictly for fabric. Here's a list of everything a Maker can cut: help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009504773-Which-materials-can-I-cut-with-my-Cricut-Explore-and-Maker-machine-

Yes! Here is the tutorial. jennifermaker.com/cut-wood-letters-cricut-names/
I absolutely love your videos. They are so detailed and help with the differences
Wow! You are an amazing teacher! Thank you so much for walking us through the process! I felt like I was there with you! New subscriber!
Amazing tutorials and content! I have bought the book, watched the videos, and anticipating my Wednesday delivery!
Sounds like you are all ready, Jada! 😍
Can that Cricut cut onto Plexiglass? Either by cutting all the way thru or just carving into it?
You can etch acrylic but in order to cut it, you'd need a laser cutter. Thanks for watching! 😊🌻
Great videos mam ,I am following it. Is it their any manual cutter for big picture decals , if u want I can share the video, tools is used for potrate detailed works
Thank you! The Explore 3 and Maker 3 can cut up to 12' long! 😊
I have learned so much from you. Thank you so very much.
I'm so glad!
Why wouldn't you just add more passes/pressure to the basswood cut on the explore? Seems like you didn't give it a fair try!
I wondered the same thing!
@c b c I can emboss with my air 2. Not sure about the rest...
@c b c You're welcome!
A Maker can pretty much cut materials that are less than 3/32", or 2.4mm, thick! 😄
So can it actually be 3/32 or no? Or should I just be using a stronger pressure for this size?
Thank you for sharing this
You are so welcome
Hi love your video. I would like to know the thickest wood that can be used? I want atleast 1 inch thick and doing script. I haven't purchased yet I'm looking for advice and you are very good at this. Thank you
The Cricut Maker can cut materials up to 2.4mm or 3/32 of an inch. 1" wood is too thick to cut on a Cricut.
Great tips and instructions on wood cutting with the cricut!
Glad you found them helpful, Brian!! Thanks for watching!
I have a verold cricut that takes those small mats. Does it work on those too? If not would you recommend that I purchase a cricut maker 3 bundle or a different device? I have not been using my cricut in over 8 years due to being lazy and I didn't have many cartridges. Thank you

Thank you for sharing this. I learned so much from you❣
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Jennifer! I love your projects. Can you show me how to make a large wood key on a Cricuit Air 2? I would like to give it to a real estate agent for a gift.
That's a great idea! Can you suggest it here so I don't forget? Thanks! jennifermaker.com/projectrequests 😊🌻
i noticed that on the maker it did 14 passes, but on the explorer only 5, and the difference in the stiffness of the wood is because of the hardness of the woods, why would you do 14 on one and only 5 on the other? Bass wood is a much harder wood then balsa.
I used the knife blade with the Maker and the deep point blade on the Explore. The deep point blade has a 60 degree angle instead of a 45 degree. Maybe that is the difference. That is a good question that I really am not sure of the answer.
What do you use to seal basswood? I designed a monogram that will be hung outdoors.
I would use an outdoor polyurethane.
Hi Jennifer,
I used 2mm thick balsawood, the strong grip matte and the knife blade.
Despite 7 extra passes, the Cricut is not even halfway through the balsa wood.
What can I do? Thanks in advance for a prompt reply.
You may need to do more passes🥰
yay!!!!
my wife REALLY wants this...so here i am!!!
:)
Hi Jennifer, how about using the puzzles for young children? Is it not tested for safety?
The puzzle I made is for my daughter who is a teenager. :). However, do what you feel comfortable with when it comes to what you make for young children.
Thank you.. I'll have to go through safety standards as I want it for above 3 years but still they might have siblings who put stuff in their mouths.
Can you cut a plexi glass or a plastic with the rotary blade? Curious what other products it cuts.
The rotary blade is strictly for fabric. Here's a list of everything a Maker can cut: help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009504773-Which-materials-can-I-cut-with-my-Cricut-Explore-and-Maker-machine-
