- The fifth ‘French’ Suite in G major, performed by Francesco Corti for All of Bach, is the most tuneful and elegant of the six. It is also the most Italian, says Corti. You can hear that straight away in the Allemande, but even in the Sarabande - a piece where Bach usually searches for harmonic expression - the melody gains the upper hand.

This music is staggeringly complex, yet it pleases the ear and mind in equal measure.

The harpsichord is such an expressive instrument, which makes the piano sound plain and clumsy by comparison? That performance is very musical and the ranges and couplings of the two manuals add to the musician's expressivity. Thank you for the video!
Honestly, it is only expressive like this in truly expert hands. But these are truly expert hands. :)

To me this suite's Sarabande is among Bach's greatest creations.
Ornamentation as it should be, full freedom but with excellent taste!! Amazing
It was executed well but I wouldn't say in good taste.
For example in the allemande he used a style of ornamentation more appropriate to a virtuosic/flashy piece, but that is not what the allemande is.
@@hugoclarke3284 It may not be strictly authentic; it may be ambitious bordering on exuberant, but I think it works, as Bach's music often does even when interpreted in dramatically un-traditional ways.
I thought it was strange that he played a substantially ornamented repeat of the first section A of the Allemande but then did not repeat the second section B at all. In my own performing I often repeat A and not B, but in such cases the repeat of A is exactly the same except maybe a registration change.
A graceful performance and a lovely, sweet sounding instrument.
When I am not listening to Bach, I can't wait until I hear Bach. That's my life, plain and simple.

I listened to this, because it is mentioned in a book called Goedel, Escher, and Bach: The Eternal Golden Braid. The book is actually about consciousness and he uses the last piece in this suite as an example. I was thoroughly amazed at the two seemingly totally separate melodies going on at the same time. Mind blowing.

Extraordinaria interpretación, me ha dejado maravillado. Increible la facilidad de digitación y la velocidad que imprime a los pasajes rápidos, todo ello con una tranquilidad asombrosa. Conocia estas piezas en version para piano (andras schiff) pero me parece mucho mas bellas tocadas en este instrumento. Magnifico el lugar en el que se interpreta y tambien es un placer ver las caras de satisfacción de los asistentes que como yo no salen de su asombro de asistir a tan maravillosa interpretación, bravo y mil veces bravo

First of all, this is great. Exceptional and definitive performance, beautiful instrument, and not a bad looking dude either. But anyway - you can really sense the progression toward the Partitas in these last two French Suites. The increasing emphasis on tuneful writing, the preference for energetic Correnti, the extended scope with extra galanteries, the complexity of construction, etc. I've always thought the Bb Partita would be comfortably at home with the G and E French Suites, and as such it does a wonderful job of 'easing' the listener into its volume (only to shatter expectations with the dire severity of the C minor suite right after lol). I'll never not be fascinated with Bach's staggering contribution to this genre. He did for the Baroque Suite what Beethoven did for the Sonata - brought it to its ultimate apex and essentially closed the book on it.

That’s a splendid performance. I particularly enjoyed the the treatment of the gigue at the ‘B’ section as you wove all the lines together.
As well, your ornaments really bring the entire composition to life in a way which few others have done.

Normally, im not so keen on the harpsichord but here Corti 's rendition is luscious, reasonably sensitive, and full of life. BRAVO!
