Wow - my Dad had that Better Homes and Gardens binder when I was a kid - he referenced it all the time. I'm 60 so that tells you how long ago that was. Just seeing it brought back a zillion memories - thanks. He's been gone for 33 years so seeing it was pretty special.
My niece worked at Meredith Publishing in Des Moines, Ia., where Better Homes and Gardens was published. Growing up in Iowa, these books and magazines were the “gold standard” of the time. Old ones are collectors items! The home decorating mags were my mother’s style. I’ll be 75 (yikes) this year and treasure the memories of seeing that cookbook open on the counter of Mother’s kitchen.🦌💌❤️
Thank you a million times for this series. I have a few of these Better Homes and Gardens notebooks (I am the original owner...was never able to part with them). You have made this old broad VERY happy. Now I know what to do with them
Gayle, thank you so much for doing this new journal. I have my mother's 1944 Better Homes and Gardens Recipe book. I have looked at that book for weeks not having a clue what to do with it. I had decided I wanted to make a journal, but after that I will send to my brother and his wife. My Mother died when my brother was 16 and he does not have things of my mother and I want to do this for him. My mother was a very good cook and this cookbook is well used! So, thank you Gayle, you came through at the right time, again!
Using old gardening books is such a great idea. I have a pile of books I was planning to discard, but now I will use them for quotes and pictures instead.
Hi Gayle!! So happy to see you using items from our Collage/Junk journal kit! Glad you enjoyed it!! If anyone is interested in getting one , we still have some available in our Etsy shop and they're still on sale! Warm hugs, Vilmarie 😊
It's so ironic peach has become a new favorite color. They came out fantastic. Color is great too. I love them .. they jazz the paper up. GORGEOUS. These pages in the gardening book are fantastic, Gayle. It can only say look at me!!! I'm gorgeous. Those will make. Great faux stamps too.
“The Secret Garden” brings back happy memories of my mother reading that book to me as a child. I can even recall her and I going to the library and the librarian helping us pick the book out. So grateful for that memory of her. Thank you Gayle I could almost feel her looking at the pretty papers with me.
Morning Gayle, I think that the journal is going to be super beautiful, the papers are gorgesso. I have never done a ring binder journal before, because I haven't got a long enough hole-puncher, never thanking of using my one punch over and over until i had the 4 or 5 holes in the page !!!!!!! Call me Dipsy Di, it just never occurred to me that i could do that!!!!! Have to go back to school and take a course in LOGICAL THINKING!!!!!!!.... Anyway....... THANK YOU for the wonderful video (again), my day would not be complete if I had not spent some time with you crafting away. Be well and safe, and, as always, sending you Blessings and hugs. Diana
I am so excited. I have been holding on to 5 ring binders for years. By the time I found them at a thrift store I forgot what project I was getting them for. But now I know! I can’t wait for the next video!! Thank you.
Oh my goodness---the Secret Garden paper pack is what I used for my first journal I made. It was for my daughter who is quite a gardener. How funny~~~ looking forward to the end result!
Ohhh - That paper is darling!!! I’ve been looking for a beautiful Secret Garden paper that really speaks to me!!! This journal is going to be fabulous!!! TFS!!! Big hugs, Sharon 🌷💜
I have this journal and may start on mine too and play along. I love what you have done so far!!! I appreciate you recording the entire process so I can learn. Thank you again.
I have this book! Am using it (only the ring binder) to make a garden book, entering every flower in my garden, each getting at least one page. Filed alphabetically. About 25% done. Thank you Gayle for giving me more ideas on how to complete it.
Ive been looking forward to this project, and that paper pad is just delicious! Gotta say tho, when Gayle was washing the cover of the binder I was 'no, no theres still a splash mark, it didnt come off!' then I realised it was on my monitor! Having my son with adhd bring me a coffee is....messy! lol
Oh, Gayle...I've missed watching you craft! I went back to work now that we've come out of lockdown and I haven't been able to watch much. I will definitely be binge watching this series on my day off though!! This is going to be so beautiful!! Those papers are lovely! Looking forward to seeing this journal bloom!
Thank you for showing this, I have a new cleaning lady starting in 2 weeks, and I need to make a communication book, this is totally the idea I needed to jazz her life up. A housekeeping journal. I have binders and soo much card stock. So many ideas, so little time. Cheers
Gayle, interesting idea for a journal. Looking forward to seeing what magic you work to bring everything together. Hope you have a great evening. Hugs 🤗 Your friend Cindy from a small town in Northern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 ❤️❤️❤️
This is exciting!! Love that paper pad!! I'm using a small 3 ring binder to do mine. So happy you're doing a garden theme...maybe spring will come faster!! 😂 Have an awesome day!! 💜
What a fun project! I have the same book and love seeing what you are doing! I love how the picket fence from the front original book matches the picket fence paper! So cute!! Love all those vintage books too!! I look forward to seeing your posts on this book!
Oh boy, this will be exciting. I really love the idea of a gardening journal. I saw a gardening book at the Friends of the Library. Should have bought it.
Gayle, you have beat me to it!!! lol I have been saving for years to make a garden theme binder and I have Graphics 45 Secret Garden to use in it. I was planning on making it this summer. I have been planning out in my mind the same way you are doing yours! I am so methodical like you. lol It is sometimes hard to use a method of making things and yet still make it look random, but that is half the fun. I am excited to see all your series on your binder journals. I am saving up stuff to make a sewing journal and a cookbook as well! Thanks for sharing!!!
Yay, happy to see your doing a Garden Journal! What about a clear pocket on the inside of the cover so you can still see the published date of the book? Love Graphic 45 paper, very pretty. Our weather temps will be in the 60’s for the next few days, my daffodils are popping up too. Let Spring begin..👍🌞🌸
Beautiful! I’m afraid my “overthink it” mode kicked in. I was trying to convey (telepathically) which papers should go behind which divider! I’d already decided the second paper should go in the VINE section, the gorgeous rose paper, of course, went behind ROSE, and the patterned green was the LAWN section! LOT PLANNING matched perfectly with the last paper Gayle used. I need to go to my craft room and use up some of my “planning energy” on MY OWN uncompleted journal!
I just bought that exact binder book a few weeks ago from Goodwill! No clue what I was/am going to do with it, but knew I had to pick it up! I love the colors of cover. And it’s in great condition. I’m stoked to see what you do with yours!
Instead of distressing with vintage photo to make you edges stand out, would you ever consider using a matching distress ink colour to your edge the scrapbook paper and help it stand out...especially for the pockets you are notching out. The paper you've chosen is stunning!!! I'm excited watching this project!
Good Morning Sissy! Happy Monday! So excited to watch your new garden journal video, can’t wait to see what you do with it! I wish I had one of those binders so I could craft along with you, those are hard to find here, I may have to find one on line. 😀 Have a marvelous crafting Monday! Love you tons! 😘🤗😘🤗
Oh I am excited about this. I started working on one of these binders last year, I put it away for the winter. Going to haul it out and add some pockets like you've shown, love that. I haven't done one of these before, so I appreciate seeing your process. I have a sewing binder too, hoping to find the cooking and home repair!! Thanks for sharing your ideas. Take care 💖 🙂
I think this is going to be fun. Going tomorrow and see if I can find one. I have a seeing one but I use it sometimes for sewing. Thanks . I have been having hard time working on my journals but this video has me excited. Hugs 💝😁
How fun! I just ordered a 1961 edition from Etsy and already got notification she’ll be posting it this afternoon. So once it arrives I will be crafting along with you. Still working on my Mary Midthorne book.
My first time watching you. Im obsessed with learning journal making and repurposing. I've been gathering supplies. I'm so excited to find your channel. God bless your creativity beautiful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and cteativity.
I just bought a Singer sewing book at Goodwill. It’s either 4 or 5 rings. But I’m sure the process is basically the same. I’m excited to get started as I also found some ‘50’s clothing patterns to use in it. Yes!
I sell them often on eBay. Sold a Better Homes and Garden last week. I bet she’s here with us now 🤣 I m working on the cookbook, the inside was disgusting even burned but the cover was ok.
Hi Gayle it’s Debbie, just figured out how to leave a comment. Feel really dumb, but it’s a big day. I get to now tell how much I enjoy your videos. Give Baby Yoda some extra hugs. Loving new journal.
This is so awesome! Thank you for sharing your process! I had picked up the sewing version of this book at a flea market but wasn't sure how I wanted to use it. I am really inspired now and can't wait for the next video!!
Hi Gayle, you could take the piece of acetate in the front and use it as a template. That way you can see what the page will look like before you cut. I love the paper pack.

How wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing that story of your Mom. 🥰❤️
I have three of those garden books sitting on my shelf...every year I tell myself I'm going to make a BIG garden journal! This will be fun to watch.
Morning Gayle, I think that the journal is going to be super beautiful, the papers are gorgesso. *I saw another TH-camr who referenced your vid. I got this binder yesterday and it'll be my Summer project. I'm so excited!💛*
Ive been looking forward to this project, and that paper pad is just delicious! That’s so great that you have a great coffee delivery guy
@@dellajohnson5413 It is lovely...even if my floor and monitor end up sharing it with me! lol

Goody! I have 5 ring garden binders and the Secret Garden papers. So excited to craft along with you.
They are a great color with those "older than us pages" Gail. You can put them in your shop ✅ gone in a second per usual but it's fabulous.
This one's going to be fun! The vintage images and Edith pages will be gorgeous among the 50s scenes!

If you want to matte those shiny pages, use either matte medium over them or clear gesso Gayle!
I just bought a Singer sewing book at Goodwill. It’s either 4 or 5 rings. But I’m sure the process is basically the same. I’m excited to get started as I also found some ‘50’s clothing patterns to use in it. Yes!
