Mother's House and Mother's Ghat in Bagbazzar মায়ের বাড়ি ও মায়ের ঘাট

On 17th February 2024, while it was till very pleasant, after visiting Cossipore Udyan Bati we visited Mother's House in Bagbazzar. At the entrance we bought lotus flowers to place at Mother's feet. We got tickets for free prasadam . We climbed up to the fist floor which was the residence of Sri Sri Sarada Ma. In 1907 when Belur Math was being constructed , it's publication named Udbadhone's office was opened in the ground floor of No 1, Udbodhon Lane . After the demise of Sri Ramakrishna, MA Sarada ,didn't return to Dakshineshwar. She had spent some time at Kamarpukur. But she didn't have any designated residence of her own. At this time she was living in dire poverty. When Swami Vivekananda came to know about Mother's sufferings , he request all the disciples to take care of his dear mother. So she lived in various homes of Ramakrishna's disciples. When in 1907 this house was constructed , Sri Ma got to live on the first floor of this house, where her many disciples visited her.
Ramakrishna Mission carries out many philanthropic work, and some pictures of their work was displayed on the board. Next to this board was a room where one could make donations.
It is customary to have Mother's prasadam and no one left without tasting it.We climbed up the staircase once again to have the prasadam.
We had to sit on the floor, but after some time we got used to it. If one has any difficulty to sit on the floor , one may request to be seated on chairs and that could be easily arranged.
After tasting the prasadam , which also worked as lunch for us we visited the Ghat behind the house.As only a few days ao Bengalee's has celebrated Saraswati Puja and the idols were immersed here, the Ghat was a little dirty. We had to cross the tracks of circular railway to reach the Ghat.Mother used to bath here for the 11 years she lived in this house. There is also a beautiful Serene statue of Sri Ma on the Ghats....Our next stop would be Balaram's Mandir.
