I've owned this bag for about 3 years and been using it quite often for quick commutes. Fits my DSLR camera pretty well inside the main compartment, with some extra space for small items (added some of my own paddings inside for extra protection).
For the shoulder straps, i permanently mount them on the rear attachment point, and tuck them inside the bottle pocket (i don't use those bottle pockets for carrying bottles anyways). So whenever i want to carry the bag off the bike, i simply take the strap out and attach it on the other end, and i'm good to go. One thing tho, carrying the bag while it's fully loaded (with the side bags extended) could be a bit awkward, but hey, it gets the job done.

Had one of these for over 10 years. Still have it. Works 100%. Love it. As to the strap, I pull the center of it through the grab handles. Do not have to unclip. Has never come out while riding. As to space, I've put a pair of dress shoes, socks, dress shirt, tie, sport coat in just the panniers. Do it all the time and they don't come out rumpled.

I have this bag and love it. For your strap problems, It's simple. I leave it on all the time. When riding, II pull up on the strap, fold it forward and put the strap/pad down the center underneath the handles. It stays put, never had a problem. that's the aero position, if done backwards, the air could blow out the strap, maybe. ha ha

I stuffed 2 gallons of milk on the side bags whole grocery bag of vegetables, and another grocery bag of misc food.
You can carry a lot and when not in use I zip up the penny bags.

I have used a Topeak MTX Trunkbag for 5 years now. It is just starting to get a bit raggedy. It has proved to be a real jack-of-all street use bag for me. FYI I have size 11.5 US (45 EU) feet, medium frame bike, with 170 cranks, and do not have heel strike on the panniers when deployed. The reason is the Topeak rack is more up and back. That is a benefit when using my full size Banjo Brothers Market bags for bigger shopping days. It is a good system.

I have found it easier just to put my phone in the side pockets if I am not using the panniers, I have also found that the clip for attaching the carrying strap at the rear of the bag is a pain to get to when you have a bottle in the pouch and even getting the bottle in and out when the carrying strap is attached can be a challenge. when I initially purchased this bag I read reviews about the yellow clip not being very secure and to overcome this I purchased a cheapish short combination lock which I run from the saddle rails through the carry handle, this hopefully would stop me losing the bag all together if the clip did fail and provides peace of mind that no one can just yank the bag off whilst I'm stationary. When I have locked my bike up and removed the bag I leave the combination lock running through the saddle rails and just lock it through the frame to help prevent any opportunist morons from pinching my saddle and I don't have to carry the lock around with me. The clip hasn't failed as yet and I'm pretty confident that it isn't any time soon but I keep the lock system going anyway as things are getting pretty bad these days and if you don't tie it down some halfwit will pinch it. Anyway hope this info is useful to someone.................Be safe ! keep ya rubber side down!

HI there, quick question. I have a standard road racer and I'm thinking of using the Topeak TetraRack R2 rack-in combinaiton with this pannieer- as it bypasses the p-clips eyelets issue. Does your rack do the same?

I just got this bag over the weekend and I'm quite excited for the convenience of it. One concern that came to mind while I was riding around was just *how easy* it is to remove. I live in Chicago. If you don't lock your shit up it'll be gone in a blink. I'm looking at ways to lock the bag to the rack. The best idea I've come up with so far is to wind a cable through the shoulder strap loops, and then down through the rack bars. Then secure it with a lock of some sort. It won't be pretty and it will make removing the bag inconvenient, but seems better than losing it altogether. Wondering if anyone has put any thought to this before? Perhaps there's a better idea out there somewhere.

Since the device slides on rails, if there was a block at the open end of the rails? The problem here is that it only secures it to the rack, so a lock for the rack to frame is also needed.

@@atropineman3541 Hey there, appreciate your response. I actually forgot that I left this comment many moons ago. What I ended up doing was more or less what I described above. I found a lock that has a combination on it and is designed much like a zip tie. I guess if you Google "zip tie lock" you'll see what I'm talking about. That served the purpose of weaving through the loops of the bag, then through/around the bars of the rack, and then coming back together and securing itself end to end. 8 months later, I've still got all my stuff. 🥳 I'm pleased with the results.

In reply to your negative observations:
The main design weakness is the main zipper which, when using the handled, takes on the full weight of the bag. Better would be a handle that attaches below the zipper, on either of the opposite sides of the bag.
The shoulder strap can be used to wrap around the seat post as a way to both get it out of the way as well as a second line of defense to prevent the bag from sliding off the rack, something that has been known to happen. I've done this and it worked well. It also slightly slows down any thieves.
A separate charge for the rain bag allows the purchaser to choose whether they need one or not. Otherwise the trunk bag, coming with the rain bag would simply add the charge to it all, without a choice involved.

replace the strap clips with good carabiners. release the rear leaving only the front clipped. Wrap this neatly around your seat tube. It will keep the strap out of the way as well as provide a failsafe in case the yellow clip fails.

I bought a Rad Rover and this is the first thing I bought for it. I've been using it for 2 years and really like it except.....I have a hard time throwing leg over the bag when I mount the bike. I usually have to stand on a curb or something 2-3 inches higher than the ground. I'm 70 years old and I guess I got a little shorter with age. (And not as flexible.). I ride every day with my Lab, and the saddle bag still looks and operates like new. It's good that I ride mostly in town and we have plenty of curbs in my neighborhood.

The major flaw is that when you use the carrying handle to carry the trunk, it puts undue stress on the zipper. When I realized this, it was too late. The top zipper has broken under the stress of the carrying handle being sewn in the wrong place; on top of the bag, instead of the sides.

How did you attach the rear light to the rack because I was worried about covering up my rear light should I cover it up with a rain cover. Also, did your trunk bag and panniers get wet because the rain cover is only on the outside?

8magix8ball8: The rack's rear has holes in it that allows one to place a variety of mounts so that the light is below the rain cover. It may require some creativity but it will work.
Another alternative is to mount the rear light on your cycling pants temporarily.

giovanni spinotti: I've used it for Inn to Inn riding with around 25 lbs. of items in it for an 8 day Erie Canal ride. Works fine. I traveled on hard pack fine stone and tarmac so didn't test it on rough surfaces. For the rain I use the fitted rain cover.
I actually had a little room to spare while carrying everything I needed.

This does use a proprietary connection to the rack as it slots in and out of it. You could potentially make it fit a standard rack with a bit of ingenuity but would be a bit hard to make it quick release.

Bought this bag today so browsing reviews. The yellow clip is not secure at all. One little bump or pothole and bye bye panniers. Happened today to me. I have attached a strap with release clip to protect against this. On the positive side, you can hold a full slab of beer cans in the panniers. Great!

I just checked and yes it does! Not much extra room at the top however, and if you used a thin protector case there would be even less (I tried a 2015 macbook pro 15"). I noted one thing I hadn't realised before though, the side panniers are about 30-40mm deeper at the back than the front, so the front corner of the laptop pokes up higher.

If you mean the centre compartment (not the side panniers) then I don't think it would fit. it is about 280mm long but at the front it is only about 150mm deep (i.e. top to bottom).
It would fit in the side panniers though, but you'd want to put it in a good case with some padding/support as the side panniers are just floppy bags really.

Im interested to know if you have seen the Quick release fail now that you have used this for a while. I just got mine and my first commute I lost my Laptop and Ipad.. almost to a bum who walked away with it only after I realized it was not on the rear of my bike anylonger.

The entire bag, when unfurled, is 22.6 liters., a figure obtained by converting the published cubic inch maximum capacity of this bag into liters by using a free online converter. Converting the inner dimension of the main bag compartment based on the published figures in the ads for this bag I get a result of 790.9 cubic inches which, converting to liters results in 12.96 liters. Subtracting that figure from the 22.6 total liters I mention above, the result is 9.64 liters for both the drop down side bags. Dividing that by 2 will yield a figure of 4.82 liters per side bag.

Something not addressed here and could be quite important to a new or potential buyer. I own a mountain ebike with a rack. Really heavy duty compared to normal racks...usually rated for 40K. My rack holds a 100lbs!!
However..you need what's called the Omni adapter plate. Eighteen bucks! No biggy right!? Wrong!!
I think they're made in small numbers...entrepreneurs online snap them all up...I saw one online go for 85$!!!! I waited and waited..and gave in when I found one for 25$ !

Love the concept of the bag but hate the large embossed logo, and the fact that the bright yellow release mechanism highlights how to steal it! Both deal breakers for me, but I appreciate it's down to personal taste.

.. go buy a can of BARBOUR Thornproof dressing, use a plastic cake spatula to apply the wax to the denier nylon, use a hair dryer set on high to get it to soak in. It's a bit of a time consuming effort, but will make the nylon much more water resistant.

@@lazurm the rainfly sold for the product is fantastic in conditions of prolonged rain or heavy downpour, where the zipper definitely will end up compromised. A decent wax dressing treatment will guard against less severe deluge, as well as splatter from puddles/muddy conditions. Also protects against dust amd dirt..

Nope it's great. It locks in fairly firmly to the rack so there is no real wiggle room to cause a rattle.

I ordered one for my bike and one for my wife’s bike, hers arriving soon. Mine is mounted on the Topeak rack and has a very slight rattle. I have researched a bit and found others have the same concern. Not a show stopper, but a bit unexpected for the price. I will come up with a fix. Hopefully my wife’s bag won’t mount up with a rattle. Great review by you!

Rattles avoid. Awkward to use with the hand strap needing the zip fully closed and lid keeps falling down. Too small in main compartment. Rattles on the rack so irrating, NO DAMPERS
