  • Analog or digital? Why not both? The hybrid studio combines software and hardware to get the best of both worlds. We'll talk about signal flow, bus processing, inserts, aux returns, and I'll show you some cool pieces of affordable DIY outboard gear.

Nice studio Melvin! My own 'hybrid setup' is a laptop, cheap Scarlet 2i2 interface and old 4-track from about 1995. It's really noisy so only used for extreme lo-fi and feedback experiments, but if you like genuine tape hiss and saturation it does the job🤣

Thanks! That's an awesome setup, especially if you have a portastudio that can pitch down 2 octaves, there's some really cool things you can do with that :)

@@optoproductions yeah mine only has about 5 semitones pitch range, but once it has that tape sound, I can drop it an octave on the computer and it sounds just as good. That's also a good cheat for making tape loops, record it to tape to get the wow/flutter then record back into the laptop and loop it in an editor. So much easier and it sounds exactly the same! 😉

@@VirtualModular oh you're right that's smart! No more cutting and pasting which is always a pain. Good tip!

That's plenty to get you started! Have you tried using the external inputs to run some drums through the filters?
