This song is my anti anxiety song. When my thoughts are racing and I’m kinda panicking I put this on repeat and it brings me to a place of gratitude and I’m able to stop panicking.
They did an amazing job upgrading this song! The original was done by Celine Dion and Andre Bocelli years ago and Scott is singing in Italian:) Two other grrrreat Christmas songs are Mary, Did You Know? And Over The River with Lindsey Sterling - one is soul shattering and the other makes you wanna get up dance! Ohhh and O Come All Ye Faithful….that one made my jaw hit the floor!
#Pentatonix published this on their 2021 Christmas album, "Evergreen." Most pentaholics think this should have won a Grammy. Unfortunately, it's the publisher's responsibility to submit songs to the Academy, and RCA decided to submit the entire album rather than the one Grammy-worthy song on it. "Evergreen" (the album) was nominated, but it never had much of a chance of winning. And if I sound angry about that it's only because I am. Isn't that a gorgeous suit Scott is wearing? Do you notice that he *isn't* wearing a scarf, or gloves? That's because they aren't actually in a snowy forest; this was filmed indoors, on one of the most beautiful sets I've ever seen. Either Mitch or Kirstin could have sung the lead; they have much the same range and on occasion they sound very much alike. But Kirstin's real forte is belting out those high notes and Mitch's is ethereal (some would say angelic) vocals, which made Mitch the better choice to lead in "The Prayer." Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli each recorded solo versions of "The Prayer" for the 1998 animated film, _"Quest for Camelot."_ Dion's was in English and Bocelli's was in Italian. Later, they released a duet version on their albums "These Are Special Times" (1998 - Dion) and "Sogno" (1999 - Bocelli). Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prayer_(Celine_Dion_and_Andrea_Bocelli_song) Obviously, Pentatonix chose to cover the duet version, though they abbreviated Bocelli's part. And wouldn't you know that Scott would be the best choice for Andrea Bocelli's part, when Scott is the member of Pentatonix most likely to forget the lyrics (according to everyone in Pentatonix, including Scott)? No, he doesn't speak Italian; he had to learn this by rote, and he worked very hard to get the pronunciation right. According to people who do speak Italian he succeeded. Lyrics and English translation of the second verse: *Scott:* _La luce che tu dai_ {The light that you give} *Mitch:* I pray we'll find your light *Scott:* _Nel cuore resterà_ {In my heart it will remain} *Mitch:* And hold it in our hearts *Scott:* _A ricordarci che_ {To remind us that} *Mitch:* When stars go out each night *Scott:* _L'eterna stella sei_ {You are the eternal star} *Mitch:* Ooh oh *Scott:* _Nella mia preghiera_ {In my prayer} *Mitch:* Let this be our prayer *Scott:* _Quanta fede c'è_ {There is so much faith} *Mitch:* When shadows fill our day *Scott:* Lead us to a place *Mitch:* Guide us with your grace *Both together:* Give us faith so we'll be safe Sources: genius.com/Pentatonix-the-prayer-lyrics Translation from: dailyitalianwords.com/the-prayer-andrea-bocelli-celine-dion-lyrics-english-translation/
I love this song. The prayer was originally recorded by Andrea Bocelli, and opera singer who recorded it in Italian. Celine Dion recorded it in English. Scott was singing in Italian. Your observation about Scott's voice sounding like two different tones was spot on. Thank you for sharing such beautiful and inspiring music with all of us. Loving this version. Tears for me too.
That was an Epic reaction. Thank you for sharing your journey of PTX with us!. As you can tell the Pentaholics fan club is serious about the beautiful sounds. Welcome to the PTX world! Merry Christmas!
One of my favorites from PTX. Thank you for your reaction. Yes, you got Mitch slapped again. Weve all been there. Looking forward to your next PTX reaction!
I think this song has gotten all of us to tears at one time or another. It still gets me if I have had a bad day! It is beyond beautiful. They have such a way of bringing out emotions in their music. Still hoping you do Mitch's solo cover of Your Power by Billie Eilish.
This is not really a Christmas song. It was just released on their Christmas album a couple of years ago. It was just set in a snowy setting to fit in with the theme of the album.
Love your reaction. You need to check out O Holy Night, Oh Come All Ye Faithful, Please Santa Please, and all of their songs, lol They have a huge library and every one is perfection.
This is the song that turned me into an instant Pentaholic (after not having listened to them for about a decade). How they didn’t earn a Grammy for it is beyond me!! Mitch 😇😍🔥🤯❤💚 You MUST listen to this live version-not necessarily to react to since your list is already long- but because their ability to keep it stunning and brilliant live is just amazing, and you will love it. th-cam.com/video/i5xMpjBLLuc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yLw1Av7Y3RvRnyq2
About the Grammy...some idiot at Sony forgot to put the paperwork in for the nominations in time. I sincerely hope that fool is fired! Because of that mess-up, PTX never got the recognition they deserve for this incredibly, wonderful piece.

Isn't it breathtaking? The whole song gives me chills every time, but the best chill is the final chord in Kevin's lovely, pitch perfect tenor.
My favorite~ favorite Christmas song, favorite pentatonix, favorite performance by anyone~❤
