Making a Leather & Kydex Survival Knife Sheath Leather Working ASMR

- Let's make a complicated leather knife sheath (with storage for sharpening stones or matches). This time for a Cold Steel Drop Forged Survivalist bowie knife. Watch me play around with tooling, heat-forming Kydex, using a laser engraver/cutter, veg-tan and oil-stoned leather, woodworking (OK, that's a stretch, but still...).
My laser is the excellent xTool P2 55W CO2
Below is a link for saving a few bucks purchasing a P2 direct from xTool. I was given this code to pass on to my viewers when I first received the the laser. Hopefully it still works:

The stamps used on this this sheath:

Barry King steep angle beveler

That time when the sheath is worth ten times more than the knife.
Right. In all fairness a good leather sheath usually is worth more than the blade
30seconds in and I saw how cheap the knife was and now idk if I want to watch the full video 😒😑😁
I have built a handful of more complex multi-piece sheaths for my custom knives, but this just unlocked so many things that I never even thought to try! Thank you for putting this out here for us to enjoy and learn from. Wonderful work, and again thank you for putting this out into the world.
Glad I could help!
I can't tell you what a wonderful, peaceful experience it was just watching that video. It's so seldom to see a true artist at work anymore, let alone one with this kind of skill. The end product was truly a thing of beauty.
It's Bowie big homie 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a simple man with no skills, I can only dream of one day having such a fine sheath for my knife. Thank you for sharing
i cant believe I'm going to say this but, I really really hope you don't under charge people. this Is amazing work and the editing hides the many hours not shown. this type of work deserves a good payout for each one made.
I'm currently unable to take custom orders anyway. This was a personal project. Thanks for watching!
Чудо-ножны! Просто произведение искусства! Тут случай, когда ножны стоят дороже, чем сам нож! Мастеру ставлю БОЛЬШОЙ КЛАСС!!! 👍👏
Thanks for watching!
Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night th-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.
I'm eventually going to make a whole video on sharpening my tools. Make sure to subscribe to get the notifications!
Wow, I hope that knife is worthy of that sheath, I never knew it takes that much craftsmanship to make a good sheath, amazing.
that was a work of art. Amazingly shot edited and constructed. Thanks for sharing!
I made a sheath for my bowie knife a few weeks ago. I'm a lefty so I have to change everything. Wish I had seen this first. Always amazing.
Very impressive. I have a long way to get you your level of craftsmanship. You do give ideas and desires for one to better themselves with leathercraft.
Thanks of watching! 👍
Wow ! That's a masterpiece !!! 👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
You are a great craftsman. I like your attention to detail and artistic touch. I make fairly simple leather sheaths for my knives. I feel encouraged to step up my leather work game! Thank you 🙂
All artists have the same beautiful fingers!!!
Nerves of sreel and the patience of Job.
That's not a sheath.... It's a work of art!
Thanks for watching!
Something with a leather stacked handle would look sweet in that sheath. That sheath is to beautiful to even put on a belt. Such nice work my friend.
Волшебник!!!!уважение!!!!
The thing that struck me about this video, the main reason I watched it, was that I couldn’t imagine why someone would use both leather and kydex to make a knife sheath. I thought perhaps you’d use the kydex as a backing to stiffen the sheath and protect the back from wear.
Using it to make the mouth to protect the leather from the knife is frankly genius. Traditionally in many places bone or horn are used but shaping those materials can be tricky. Thanks for the idea.
Gorgeous.
Thanks!
Easily the most beautiful sheath I've seen in many a year. WOW!!
Thanks for watching!
As always, such an outstanding project. I don't know how you sleep at night with all of those creative ideas flying around in your head!!!
Ha. Thanks! Problem is I just don't have enough hours in the day.
Fantastic work! Your channel is a real treat.
Such clean and precise work. You make it look easy.
Thank you very much!
The truest sign of a master is to make it look easy.
Work of art created by the master of leathercraft.
"Wow!!!" from Oldenburg/Germany!
thanks!
Amazing craftsmanship!!!
Thanks!
What an awesome design. This was amazing to watch. 👏👏
You just keep outdoing yourself. That one fine pig sticker holder. On a side note. I miss your old tunes you used to play a year ago
Thanks! I think I know the tune you're talking about. Maybe I'll bring it back on the next one.
Real fine craftsmanship. Beautiful, functional sheath.
Thank you very much!
Much better than that cheap knife deserves!
Ah. That's harsh! It's a good budget knife
It's a COLD STEEL knife, @thejerryj!
おとな版?出来るかな😊❤?
Absolute pleasure watching you work Sir, thankyou
Thank you kindly
I have the same knife and I can assure you that it's worthy of that sheath. It's a perfectly balanced fighting knife. I can get mine screaming sharp. I like your attention to detail. No I can't make a sheath as nice as you. But like you I'm proud of my ability. I have put some people in awe of how sharp I can get a knife. 50 years of experience helps. My dad used to say please not so sharp this time. I always got a inside laugh about it. But he was serious.
Thanks for watching! I agree; it's a very nice knife, especially for the price. I've got a whole set of sharpening tools. In my opinion, if it's not sharp it's not really a knife --- just a knife-shaped piece of metal.
Another awesome video! Your craftsmanship is wonderful to watch. I always enjoy watching you make some incredible, yet functional, works of art! Cheers!
Awesome, thank you!
Wow wow wow, that looks like an awesome sheith you have done, I'm new to leather work so know how hard to keep everything looking totally professional. Stay safe & mostly stay strong!! 😁
Uma verdadeira obra de arte. Parabéns
Beautifully done! Awesome to watch. Also, fascinating uses for 123 blocks!
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for subscribing!

I had to think for words for a moment! Thanks. Great work, very practical, May be our pollies should look at this. You need a knife and you need a fire starter at any time , any where, despite what they think.. One of the best pieces of leather work on the net. Well done.. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching!
Great job! Bravo master! From Russia with respect!
Thank you very much!
Stunning craftsmanship....WOW!!!
Just amazing. I am off to make a knife sheath now. Thank you.
Harika!!! Hunerli eller ve muhtesem videolar. Lutfen uretmeye ve paylasmaya devam et. Her videonun sonunda sabirsizlikla bir sonraki videonu bekliyorum.
Wow!!!!!!!!! That's amazing. Now I want to go make me one
Absolutely beautiful work, true craftsmanship.
Thank you very much!
Absolutely stunning work! Love your technique
Thank you so much!
Gorgeous work. Wish I had information on this exact sheath for the same exact knife! I just subscribed btw. Thank you for sharing your creative talent with us!
Nice sheath. Like the other guy said: “the sheath is worth more than the knife.”
You should really only slick the edges after you have assembled the panels and sanded the edges so as not to do it more than once. Saves time and work.
Thanks for watching!
You are truly talented at what you do, there's no denying that. I would like to see a video where you do into a little more depth in actually explaining the process of what you are doing and why though.
Thanks! If there's any part of the construction process you have questions about please feel free to ask here in the comments and I'll answer. I've done videos before where I talk in detail about what I'm doing. They never seem to do as well as these type of videos where I just stay quite and build.
Thats was the most satisfying thing I ever seen on TH-cam. And one of the most beautiful.
Thank you! And thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
😮worth more than the knife 🎉❤
Beautiful as always! Excellent work my friend
Once you put the blue masking tape on, then add tuck tape ( the red tape used with vapor barrier installation) no more stretch due to the tuck tape and still easily removed thanks to the blue masking tape
Good tip. And thanks for subscribing!!
OK don't get me wrong here because in the end it's amazing work. I was confused about a few things in the middle but man that is what it's like for guys like us that do this at home and have to use what we have to get the job done. Not that I'm a leather worker but it still applies to us working men with common sense. Thank you for this video
Thanks! If you have any questions about the construction, just ask them here!
So good to see a craftsman at work
Beautiful sheath... looking to get something like that for my Ka-bar... with USMC and the Marine Corps emblem embossed in it. Left handed, though.
Master Craftsman!
That's the best work I've ever seen making a knife sheath it's absolutely fantastic work really enjoyed watching every minute of it very we'll done 😊😊
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Magnífico trabalho. Parabéns!!
I'm looking for something to do for a retirement gig to keep me creative and out of trouble. In my 20's I made a few basic holsters and rifle scan adds in the late 70's but didn't continue when I moved for a job. Your videos have rekindled my interest.
And to think I found the oem sheath for my drop forged survival knife to be great. This work of art is absolutely gorgeous and I wish I could buy it. Thank you for some zen time today.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful and solidly functional work. I like the pouch for the DMT stones. I think the sheath totally outclasses the knife.
Thank you! And thanks for watching and subscribing!
Friend, your leather work is art. I’m new to leather working and I have learned a lot from this video. I liked and subscribed. Thank you
Awesome! Thanks!
What a master piece!
Thanks for watching!
A very very nice leather sheath 👍 The leather sheath has more value as the knife.
Шедевр! Лучшая работа,руки мастера каждое движение как балет,высокое искуство.!!!
Absolutely beautiful sheath great job
Thanks!
Beautiful Workmanship, thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
As always, a simply amazing and mesmerizing display of talent. Please keep making these great videos.
Thank you very much!
I learned a few things I haven't thought of before, thank you very much.
One thing though: I do not know what your fume exhaust situation with the laser is. Burning away kydex is close to being dangerous. Kydex being a PVC, it releases chlorine gas when burned. Not only is that all kinds of hazardous to you, it's also corrosive and may damage bith your laser as well as the exhaust pipes.
Thanks! Yes, I'm aware of the hazards of burning Kydex (and other synthetics). I don't work with Kydex often at all. The last time I did I used tin snips. However, this was a complex little piece that I needed cut and scored precisely. My laser has air assist and a good ventilation system that I have piped to the outside. I'm also working in my garage with the garage door open and fans running. It's still a risk/benefit decision; I decided the relatively short period of time I ran the machine cutting and scoring this piece was worth it.
What gorgeous workmanship! 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks for watching!
Really beautiful sheath Great job
Thanks 👍
This is really beautiful work! 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵

Great job best I’ve seen
Thanks! Of course, all I see are the imperfections. But if you don't see them, they didn't happen!
Dam nice work !
Appreciate it!
A $10 knife in a $200 sheath. Beautiful piece of work
they are 90-100 dollar knives (and worth that) but can easily be had for 65-70.
I own one, it's an insane bowie to be honest
