Agree. Such audio features are something called Sonic Branding or Audio Branding, which is often neglected compared to visual branding, and I am impressed how Floss is one of the first ones to intuitively call this out. :) Sound, in general, is an area that could be explored more by many brands.
I'm glad you mentioned the lack of always on display. I don't understand why Motorola refuses to include it in any of their phones.

Is AOD a deal breaker? I like it, I use it, but it's really not something I care about. When battery saver is on o legitimately forget it's a feature

I got the Razr+, it's a lot of fun. Not going to lie. My last phone was a Flip 3 and this is just such an improvement. I also get a full day of use. I am at like 80% brightness and mostly texting and on twitter. The Razr+ does not have the closing or opening sound at all.
I don't know how you delt with the battery, it made that phone unusable. I got mine from ATT and it doesn't have the hinge sound.

I love the smartphone and I am satisfied with the battery! If you only use the small display, the battery runs for 2 days. and that's why you buy the cell phone to use the small display and not the large unfolded display! I'm very satisfied !

Very true thats such a good tip i always run out of battery in the middle of work on my Flip 3!(oilfield job so im out there), i just bought the razr+ and cant wait to stick to using the outer display to save battery, so excited about the outside screen being alot more usable than the samsung flips lol

Great video floss. On the outer display you don't have to scroll up to switch from full to default. Just press and hold the bottom of the screen and it will switch back and forth

Thanks for the review Floss. It might have been long but it was thorough and I appreciate that. I've been looking at foldables for 2 months I ordered my Razr plus today and your review is what made me pull the trigger. I would have preferred the little extra memory available on the Ultra 40, but they are really difficult to find and have no U.S. warranty. I use two phones the other one being an S23 Ultra which I will continue to use. I'm hoping this one will give me the best of both worlds. This one is replacing my Pixel 7 Pro. I never really fell in love with that one. Thanks again.

It was a downgrade from my S22 Ultra. But it's a great looking phone and fun to use. Way more interesting. If I get bored with the razr I can always go back.

I had all the issues you mentioned with a global version. Bugs, battery and wasn't taking a charge. I wanted it to be great but too many flaws for the price. I returned my one. Hopefully next year will be better. Best honest review as usual Flossy.
My man! Best phone reviewer for a long while now.
The last time I have had a Motorola that I like for its novelty is the Motorola Flipout way back 2012(?). Similar with this phone in a sense that the outer display (in Flipout's case is the only display) is pleasant to the eye. It's also pocket-able in the front, has Android so I can install PowerAmp (MP3 players were the shit back then, Spotify still wasn't that big), and has that swivel flip that I always enjoy, which rocks a very nice physical keyboard on the bottom half of the phone. Very handy as a backup.
Currently still satisfied with my Motorola edge x30 and I don't feel like replacing it anytime soon. This Motorola Razr 40 Ultra might change that narrative, though, as that outer display is a huge W.
I have the z flip 4 and I actually do a lot with it with the small screen . I downloaded CoverScreen OS and I can view any and everything as well as respond to text messages and all ! However , that small screen do get annoying after a while lol but I love it .

I'm mad late but just got the phone, and yes I got it over the Samsung flip for nostalgic reasons, lol. But a couple slight corrections. 1) the phone will keep your place when you close you just gotta have the app on the external display and enable the transitions feature. 2) any app works on the external display . Not trying to come at you I'm just saying. Love your videos please don't ever stop.

I doubt it, in floss's review he points out the pros and cons, just saying, maybe look at different brands and compair, like the z flip and such, too many glitches already, as Floss pointed out, which is why I always watch his reviews, 🤔

the option for flip open sound is missing from my US version of the RAZR as are some of those backgrounds that you were playing with.
But remember, Floss has the Chinese version of this phone 📱.

@@lisawesley7132yup I saw his first video and pre ordered. By the time mine arrived this video came out an I realized I was missing features. It's packed for return.
So my bugs so far have been:
Upside down flip screen
Unresponsive Volume Keys for about 10 seconds
Apps Running in the background (like TH-cam) will shutdown upon closing flip
Opening flip leads to black screen and takes a while for launcher to show
Nothing too crazy though. It hasnt hampered my ability to use the phone, and I fully expect these to resolve in future updates.
Bring on 2 mil subs Floss.

Floss you got to go to Settings, External display, app settings, choose TH-cam and set auto transition. When you do that the TH-cam video continues to play when you close the phone as a small video. You have to do this for all the apps you want to auto transition on the external display.
Saw the whole video ! more than an hour long .It was very funny and entertaining. Flossy Carter always does an excellent job !

Had mine over a week now. I love it. Even the cam quality is quite decent, which was unexpected. I did give my s22 ultra to my old man for real picture taking though 😂
To clarify, I've been a diehard Samsung devotee since the Galaxy 4 so this was a huge leap for me.
I agree, I have an s21 ultra as well and I'd take the 40 ultra (Europe) for taking photos if you don't need more than a 2x zoom, after that the s21 kills it.
Do you have the Chinese version? If not do you wish you had the features mentioned in his first review?

You're not going to experience real picture taking with any smartphone. I have yet to see one that even rivals the quality of 50 year old 35mm film cameras. You can't beat physics with tiny sensors and lenses.

I mainly got it for the small screen. I am a fan of compact phones and the last one I had was the Xperia XZ2 Compact . That was perfect. But no other android phone came close to that. This moto is as close as we will get
Fully agree. I prefer smaller phones, but I fancied something different and decided to give this one a go. A nice blend of big/small phone and even some simple games are more than usable for killing time. Already looking forward to what more flip phones will bring to the table in a year or so

@@Benzo97 yep, after my Sony had issue with charging. I switched to Pixel. And been getting pixel since. I switched to this one from the pixel 6. Hopefully Google make a Pixel Flip, I'll get that day one
Ultra is actually the global (or at least European version). AFAIK, it's only called 'plus' in the USA (and maybe Canada). Was going to buy this one, but changed my mind last second, just too many concessions for the price. Like you said, if this was in the $600-$800 region, it would be worth the punt, but at $1000, there are so many better options out there. Very tempted by the flip phone form factor (I walk a lot, so something small to fit in my pockets would be great), but I'll wait to see what Samsung comes out with in 3 weeks, otherwise it will be next year. The fold phones also seem interesting as a tablet replacement, but only one I'd be tempted by right now is the Vivo and that would have to go back to China if there were any issues as they are withdrawing from Europe.

1. US version of this phone does not have the flip open sound unfortunately.
2. Chinese version you got is called the Moto razr 40 ultra. US version is just called the Razr+. (hopefully this has less confusion, but not sure if you can still edit the title of the video)
I was wondering what the difference was. AliExpress kept calling it razr 40 when I ordered a case I was hoping I'm not waiting 6 weeks for the wrong case.
What phone has the best battery and camera
I can confirm that the U.S. version does not have the "flip open sound" setting, though I personally wouldn't want it anyway (unless maybe it sounded like the Star Trek communicator chirp). To your point about lack of continuity when switching from one screen to another, that must be an Instagram thing, because I can't duplicate it on any app I've tried. BTW, it's not necessary to hit "Continue" when going from inner to outer screen. That's a setting @ Settings > External Display> App settings. You can select "Don't transition," "Tap to transition" (which gives the Continue button), or "Auto transition." I agree that the fingerprint sensor works flawlessly. However, since the power button is serving double duty as the sensor, it means you won't be able to get a case that covers the buttons; there will always be a cutout. Most people probably don't care though. I know I don't. I could not reproduce the fault you showed where pinch-to-zoom stopped working on a video after switching from internal to external and back to internal screen. Maybe an issue with that particular video or app? Overall, good job and a fair presentation of pros/cons!
I agree, it's definitely an IG thing. I like to use Shazam to discover music on many post. If I leave the IG screen for even a second, even tho it's on a split screen, the content I'm watching scrolls away.

I've been using the 40 ultra for a bit. I always rotate the phone when I use the cover screen though. Certain apps that look funky stretched out work better sideways. Love your content floss, can't wait for the new razr review/unboxing

Everyone needs to check and test the proximity sensor on the Razr+. I went through 2 of them in a week. Finally sent the 2nd one to Motorola and they verified the proximity sensor was indeed dead on arrival on both phones. They have a replacement one being shipped to me and I’ll have it tomorrow, so let us see if it’s really fixed.

Great review as always! I agree with you. The phone cost way too much for a mid range camera. People are only buying this phone as a flex don't get me wrong the flip style is cool AF. And I'll probably get one one day once those cameras and battery life are way better. Next Samsung flip better be bringing a flagship camera for the price.

I got the Motorola Moto G stylus 5G 2023 and I’m gonna do a full review on it this coming week as well but it’s my main phone but it feels nice, the display looks awesome on it!!!! But we’re slowly moving up on it. It’s got the QUALCOMM snapdragon six GEN one processor 120 Hz refresh rate headphone jack and the stylus of course but yeah, I’m watching this review that you did on my new Moto G stylus 5G, 2023 lol

hmmm... I live in the UK (global edition). Bought mine 3-4wks ago directly form Motorola.
Came with a 33w fast charger and a phone cover in the box (+ free promotional tablet)
Your Chinese version seems to have more Motorola Razr specific apps and features baked in.
Compared to yours, mine has no dedicated: media/ music player, messaging, or phone app, so the external display features are not as rich.
Also less external display panels to chose from, no flip sound option, and keyboard resizing issue in external display.
Yup, Ive also noticed a little glitching and some bug esp on the external display.
I hope Motorola roll out an update with the missing apps, sort out bugs and improve the link between switching between the 2 displays.

Great video floss! I got me one of these phones after watching you unbox it! T-Mobile has a great promotion right now to get this. Unfortunately there isn't a setting to make a sound when you open it up. TH-cam full screen is a bug on all my Android devices not just Motorola. I love this phone! My favorite feature is that it has Ready For. Samsung flip doesn't even have Dex. I'm staying with my Galaxy fold for my driver. This makes a nice backup. I do use the desktop mode on the Motorola everyday

Hi Floss, I saw white shoes breathing in the beginning of the video and it reminded me of my cat who was breathing the same way and turned out to have a heart problem. We have had lots of cats and I noticed it right away with shoes. Maybe it’s nothing but I just wanted to warn you. Hope that’s ok 😊
