I somewhat agree. The acting of the two male lead actors is wonderful. These were two seasoned actors who knew exactly what they were doing, with the dialogue of this script. In my opinion, something goes wrong with this film as Joan Crawford speaks her lines. She was stiff and un-natural, and her style is a mis-match for the actors in her scenes. The acting of the other two women is agreeable, though they appear as in-experienced and light weight in comparison to the two male actors. I have watched three other Joan Crawford films. In these her delivery of lines was more fluid and more realistic. My thought is that something going on in her life, through the time of making this film, was dragging down her performance. In this film (Queen Bee) she seems distracted, while playing the part of a woman with laser sharp focus. Your comment is appreciated. I have been watching these segments just because the other acting is, as you say, beyond incredible.
Like Robert Ryan, another decent actor, he had to do a lot of stuff that was 10th-rate and below him. I read somewhere long ago that Ireland had gone off the rails, behaviour-wise, causing the film-moguls to keep him out of important roles.
After Eva realized she possible going to die. Why did she suddenly go Ape crazy like that? If were myself I would sat still waiting until Came to Stop sign or rail road crossing then jumped out.
I lend my dvd of this movie, never got it back. What a pair the gorgeous Joan Crawford and the splendid John Ireland!!
