Not me literally choking up from Karlach's heartfelt words while simultaneously laughing my ass off from the awkward cuts to Mapo's "Yup this sex scene is happening" face 😂 But seriously the voice acting and voice direction is so damn good, it's got such a natural feel to it
When you romance Gale, after talking to Tara, a really sweet conversation with Gale triggers that’s so romantic and he will also talk about his last name and his mother.
I love that scene. Houndor sauce! I will say Gale and Karlach romance is similar in their genuine sweetness and depth, though Gale was never this explicit, though he makes up for it in magic.
@ when it comes to romancing Gale, I always opt out of the magic scene (even though it’s very romantic and beautiful) and tell him I want him physically instead. It’s less impressive of a scene, but afterwards Gale will comment how he had forgotten what physical touch and romance was like. Apparently Mystra only ever “loved him” through illusions. Gale’s romance is just so *chefs kiss* for me
@@acfan1988 oh he still says the line about the pleasures of sleeping with mortals even if you do the weave scene. I've never seen a difference in his dialogue. Though I do get why people chose the physical seen over the magical one.
In my playthrough as a Gith Bard I was surprised at how beautifully my relationship with Lae'zel turned out. She actually has a sweet heart inside that gruff exterior.
Lae'zel journey through the game is such an experience, only enhanced by one of the best romances in the game (tbf, they are all the best, well, at least 5 out of 6 origins). It is especially cool how genuinely off-putting people found her, "abrasive", "mean", "rude", "is she supposed to be even remotely likeable?" and took it socials how they don't like her. Extremely good character writing.
The Lower City is the best. TONS of hidden side quests. Take your time and explore EVERYTHING. Talk to EVERYONE. Also definitely check out the Elfsong Tavern and you should rent the room! It’s great
I'm glad you found Tara 🙂 I was wondering if you'll find the quest at all because you forgot to talk to teh Courier boss, but thanks to keen gnome eyes, Gale got to see his Tressym.... or maybe the ownership goes the other way. A fun fact semi-related to that: Sharess is the goddess of cats (and some other less meaningful things) in this universe!
Shocking that they finally fixed Yenna, she spent the entire game at my camp talking about the soup she never makes. So Orin generally will only take certain characters and if you happened to have all those characters in your party, something unique happens.
Oh, wow, this episode with Karlach was just beaaaaaauuutiful!! 🤌🤌🤌 Samantha(VA) nailed it, the writers nailed it. I’ve seen just pieces of this scene earlier, and all together it makes just so much sense. P.S. from what I’ve heard earlier Orin was meant to take your love interest, but it made players rushing things to much, so she takes someone out of your party, and someone you don’t romance. For me it also was Laezel, I had the same scene. And I also was so torn between what to do next, Orin or Gortash and etc. My conclusion - don’t rush it, investigate more, it all comes naturally.
I agree wholeheartedly that there should be an option to "undo" misclicks, because the 3D world can sometimes cause surprises even to the most careful of players. Maybe a pop-up window every time you left-clicked on a red item without hiding, that asked something like "Are you sure you want to use this object now?" It will cause an alert if you do." I haven't used mods yet myself, so maybe the problem is already solved by modders, but in my opinion play-testing should've been enough to make the feature available in vanilla game too.
They're an even bigger issue in Larian's Divinity games. I learned to save constantly because I accidentally stole things all. the. time. At least in this one, you can talk your way out of it or give the item back sometimes.
I didn't know you could trigger the Orin kidnapping before going into the city! This is the kidnapping scene that I got my first playthrough, but I haven't seen it since.
31:21 . This secret desire thing is unique to each companion and some of them are very sad, for example : Astarion's secret desire is to be Safe . Karlach's secret desire is to be Alive .
Time to start using those Elixir. After a Long Rest, you should have each character use one since it last for the whole day. Keep the really good ones (Bane, Universal Resistance, Fire Resistance) for the hardest fights. Use everything else. When you have a Bonus Action and don't know what to do, put some poison on your weapon. You won't run out. There's really only two fights where you're gonna really want those good Elixirs (poison is often useless on strong monsters).
Tressyms are very cool so pleasing you had Gale with you it is very nice when a match up lines up (: The date with Karlach is adorable, i am currently romancing her on my 4th playthrough i tried on multiple playthroughs before but the trigger in ACT 1 was a little buggy back then much smoother now.
Assassin Astarion with bloodlust elixir is freaking *amazing*... Gale with battlemage elixir, Shart with peerless focus... all make for really fun battle encounters. Something I got in the habit of doing is immediately after having a long rest, I'll have everyone in camp drink an elixir (and I'll also cast Longstrider on everyone) so that just in case I need to go back to camp and pull someone into my party, they'll be buffed and ready to go :) There's been much less "waste" of elixirs & potions by the end of my campaign, since they haven't been forgotten about, collecting dust and grime during our travels. I'll also keep arrows/poisons/toxins in the main inventory, rather than in a pouch, so while I'm in combat, all I have to do is hit Tab and they're right there in plain sight, and likewise those get used more often as well. The only consumables I really do have to keep in a container (and I love to use the Curious Book for this) are scrolls. I just make sure that the Curious Book is in the top row of my Tav's inventory, so when I need to use a scroll, it's easy to find the book in the middle of a fight.
There are a lot more interactions with Tara when you play as Gale origin, through all acts. Well, not the full new game of interactions ofc, but plenty enough to flesh out their relationship. This Orin kidnap scene is one of the rare ones. There is a certain logic by which the game, and thus Orin, chooses who to kidnap, but won't essay on it. I would say that all romances are really well done, and it depends more on companion/personality relatability rather than "aaaa hot companion", even tho won't deny that the game is pretty horny (and there was a bug on release in approval scene that made companions extremely horny, thus all the speedruns to sex with Lae'zel). I would even say specifically because of Gale it catches plenty of players off guard and reminds them that what one person might think as innocent flirt, the other one, especially the one who doesn't read the clues all that well and a bit socially inept, might take seriously. Still hope that maybe Larian will be the studio which will bring 2 approval systems/meters into RPGs, romance and friendship, that are separate from each other, or at least revive and push forward rivalry/friendship system that was in DA2 (it was quite cool, it wasn't great for some cases since it felt necessary to push to either full rival or full friend, but design at its core was the right one and possibly the best in RPGs with some adjustments). My favorite romance in the game, and favorite companion in general, is still Lae'zel, even after playing through Gale, Shadowheart and Karlach romances (also including Minthara ... whatever relationship with Minthara my Durge had, not really a '"romance")
Funny how the mind works. I'd go crazy if I sorted with pouches like that, I need to see everything in games. Not just to remember, but there's something about clutter in a nice colour mix that appeals to my mind. I'll even multiclass dip sometimes in this game not just for theme reasons, but to populate the hotbar. :D
As much as I'm an Astarion girlie through and through, I fucking love Karlach. She remains the only one to actually make me cry every bloody time with her scenes. She is fucking adorable, and Samantha Béart is phenomenal.
Another Astarion girlie here, and yep, the same. I’ve never been able romance anyone but him, but I love to see other romances in someone else’s playthroughs. And Karlach is just the best, for me she’s like the best friend, and here story makes me cry. Probably the only one expect Astarion’s. Another great story is of Shadowheart, but it doesn’t make me feel so deeply.
Same here!!! I can only bring myself to romance Astarion but i adore seeing the other companions scenes, especially Karlach shes so sweet and deserves the world!!
Potions are interesting, I think some are easier to manage especially the ones that last until a long rest. I would prioritize those, maybe reshuffle the inventory to have a pouch for the potions that have limited turns and keep the long rest ones in a separate bag? Either way, you’re fine I didn’t even touch the Cloud Giant strength one until the endgame and by that time I had like 17 of them. Could’ve had Karlach throwing folks all throughout Act 3
Second playthrough series I watch in a row that has respected the "Belfry for bellringers only" sign while breaking and entering without hesitation everywhere else. Apparently polite signs work better than locks.
it's a shame you didn't pick the dark urge background because you pay attention to details and would probably figure the mystery of his identity along the way
seeing the Karlack romance just made me Realize how shafted Wyll's Romance is, like, come on, add more to his, his is only a couple minutes long in total.
orin’s kidnapping is one thing i wish they implemented a little more differently. it sucks having a party member gone for many quests unless you rush towards orin, which with act 3 being so broad and up-to-you what you want to do usually, it feels weird. it definitely gives some stakes, but i think it should have happened until you had spent some time in the lower city at least.
Don't know how far you already are in real life, but it's probably a good idea to do that 9-Fingers thing Jaheira mentioned As. Soon. As. Possible! ... For ... Uh ... No. Specific. Reason!
Yeah, your amazing inventory management makes it way harder to use consumables ironically. I just throw scrolls and potions on all my characters and then in mid combat I go through them on the combat dial so Im always reminded
Damn you've shown me so much i haven't seen yet and I'm on my 3rd playthrough. Never kept jaheira alive lol she always died on me. So a lot of that content is new to me. Haven't romanced karlach so that's fun! And I've never seen that orin cut scene or the talk with Gale and the cat. You're awesome 😎😊
I save scummed the hell out of this so none of my team mates would get taken (since I use all of them) and didn't feel the tiniest bit of shame about that.
There's a priority order of who gets kidnaped from camp (Astarion and active romances can't be kidnapped irc). My first playthrough was Minthara and the Orin as Minthara scene involved The Nightsong instead. It has a lot of versions. I always rest before changing areas to make sure i never missed anything, i only knew about the city sewer version from other people playthroughs.
Try Lae'zel or Gale, both very different and outstandingly written, and especially Gale can have some wild consequences. Lae'zel romance in really just more insight into her arc, it is outstanding tbh. People say Astarion is great, and I don't doubt it, just never worked out RP wise with my characters, and also lots of say that Durge/Astarion is the best, so I gotta try. I like Karlach romance, more as Wyll origin lol, but still, it is cute, but sad at the same time, really well done. Personally, on 1st run, just because of early access headcanon, I've romanced Shadowheart. It is beautifully written indeed, but more on the conventional RPG-romance side in comparison to some. The wildest sex scene tho is with non-origin companion, and also the only one that was there since early access, not many players will see it, kind of almost rule34 self-realization by the game. Especially best experiences as female avatar character :)

Damn, Mapo gnome is so reckless LMAO. Ive beat this game 4 times, Ive never had the balls to go after Orin first. I assumed if you do your throwing away the person she took. Ill be honest, Ill be slightly disappointed if you can just spit in her face with no consequences.
Well, depends on perspective. I saw this as an urgent rescue mission and did it on both of my first playthroughs, thinking it's either very urgent or just reckless not to.
Oh wow, ive never seen that camp scene with Orin before, my reveal came much later once i was pretty established in the lower city lol
Mapo coming in clutch with that unique content 💪
There are 10 variations for that event.
There are 2 possible triggers for it.
First time I played bg i didn't even know there was a doppelganger until i got to the undercity.
I think this way happens when lingering in Riving ton for multiple rests.
That clutch DC 25 to save Yenna was crazy! I literally wished for an 18 as it rolled, too 😂
Seconding someone’s suggestion last episode about doing Jaheira’s story sooner than later! Loving the playthrough so far!!!!
Not me literally choking up from Karlach's heartfelt words while simultaneously laughing my ass off from the awkward cuts to Mapo's "Yup this sex scene is happening" face 😂
But seriously the voice acting and voice direction is so damn good, it's got such a natural feel to it
Never seen this Orin sequence, wild
I've had an unhealthy obsession for Mapo to go back and talk to the showering dwarf in Rivington. 🙏
