I almost exclusive wear Merino wool blend socks based on Finnish military socks.
The moisture vaporization is insanely good, while still keeping your feet warm in the cold. You just never get sweaty feet, even in the middle of summer.

I'm also a huge sneakerhead and after long periods of wear, especially in my faves, Travis X Fragment lows, my feet would hurt & blister up. This video convinced me to by a couple pairs of Bombas & wow, pain is non-existent. Thank you so much! 👍

I haven't tried merino wool socks yet, but I'm thinking of trying them soon. I have a merino wool long sleeve shirt that I love. I prefer more natural materials as I find they are better for my skin. I work all day on my feet, and my feet and shoes tend to get stinky after many hours, but I believe wool socks help greatly with this.

Wool seams to wick moisture away from my feet. 1st 2-3 hrs after starting work my cotton sock would get soaked with sweat even in during winter. 100% wool may get a little moist at end of day but not soaked. I haven’t been getting blister on my feet either too. I’m definitely wool sock guy.

100% wool socks changed my quality of life drastically. I spend hundreds on footwear, so paying a tiny amount for crappy socks makes no sense.

Hi! I didn't write the original post but there is something I want to comment about this "100 % wool socks" thing. There are indeed 100 percent wool socks. HOWEVER! their qualities vary. I'm a knitter and didn't know how many wool socks I knitted and wore. Many socks, which I still wear today, were made more than 4 years ago. Most of the sock yarn consists of 75-80 percent wool / 25-20 percent polyamide for creating persistence. There are two or three relatively famous brands, that offer 100 percent sock yarn, however, they are very rare and quite pricy.
Now, if you visit a Christmas market, let's say, in Germany, you can easily find 100 % wool socks for around 10 Euros. I must say tho, most of them are made from non-sock yarn and can soon deteriorate.

I got a pair of merino wool socks (from smartwool) at a ski resort because I wore through my socks at the beginning of the day and it was the only type of sock they were selling. At first I thought it was insane hat anyone could sell a pair of socks for $28 but after just one day I was completely sold. I now only wear merino wool for skiing and hiking as they are just so much more comfortable and the moisture/temperature controlling aspects. Just the other week I was backpacking with my cousin and after a long day of hiking through snow and wet stream covered trails, his socks became very crusty and so gross he opted to use them as a fire starter, while my merino wool socks looked (and smelled) fresh as can be.

I've had Bombas socks for about 4yrs now. They do feel great. I haven't tried the merino wool blend for PB but have used their other styles because the higher content of cotton. My foot doesn't do well with socks that use non-cotton fibers (poly, spandex, etc). I found that they are the only ones I've worn a whole through at the big toe and wearing through on the heal. I've written Bombas over a week ago and still waiting to hear back so my feelings about their warranty is up in the air. Even if it's "dude, they are 4yrs old", it would be nice to hear something back, anything actually. With as many pairs as I have, I'm able to rotate them frequently so it's not like I wear the same pair over and over. I've had other brands that are older than my Netscape email address and they haven't worn through at the big toe... Just saying. LUV your videos Dr Z... How do you think the merino's would do in this Arizona heat?

to be clear the socks are not 100 percent merino wool they are a blend, which in it self does not make them better or worse then full 100 percent merino wool. it is that just saying they are merino wool sock leads us to believe they are 100 percent wool

Wait, when you buy 1, they donate 1 to somebody in need? So they literally give away half of their inventory to charity? So they could reduce their cost of goods sold by 50%, and sell them for much cheaper than they currently do, if they weren't donating every other pair? Wow...is this the deciding factor that anybody uses when purchasing a pair of socks: are they going to donate a pair to somebody else? Weird.

  • @obamalastname34

Wool socks today are ugly asf I always look for traditional ribbed pattern. For durability issues buy worsted or chunky yarn boot wool socks.
For people who suffer sweat its probably the socks is large for you or it's because of the softener even lanolin decreases moisture wicking capability so always use 5% 6% vinegar later when handwashing. Last reason would be that the wool socks don't come in contact with the skin in between your toes.
So a toe socks would be actually better for full benefits.
For people wondering if plastic free wool socks is possible just look for worsted or chunky weight socks and the elastic on top can be made from undyed organic cotton mix with natural rubber for the seam a mercerized or non cotton thread can be added.

Sock knitter here, merino wool is terrible for socks and wears out quickly. Everyone loves it as it’s super soft but it doesn’t make good sock yarn. Blue faced Leicester is far superior. If your wool socks aren’t lasting 10 years they’re not well made
