Matt is my absolute favorite. People are FINALLY beginning to give him his due. I understand why they didn’t at first though, and it had nothing to do with Matt. People were heartbroken that Avi left. I was as well, and to be honest... I was ready to hate whoever took his place. But then I heard him. And I felt the energy he brought, and the range he has (which btw may be the most dynamic in the group INCLUDING Scott). What impressed the most however, is his consistency. I encourage everyone to listen to the live performance of Sound of Silence hosted by Mercedes Benz. You expect imperfections here and there from a live performance, and everyone had them.... except Matt. He was absolutely flawless.. He sounded as if they pulled the audio from the studio version. Avi will always be a legend. He’s too good not to be. But I personally feel the group has never sounded better than they do now. Everyone had to elevate their game, and now you hear intricacies and complexities from the other members that wasn’t as prominent before, because Avi took care of all that. With Avi, it’s like they had a cheat code. With Matt, it’s like they had to 100% the game themselves, and personally I think they are better for it.
Avi is great. There is no way that can be denied. I do think that Matt blends better with everyone. His voice is so smooth. His tone and vocalizations remind me of Nat King Cole. It is just so smooth. I also think the differences that Matt brings has allowed them to grow and go in different directions.
I really like listening to Matt. For me, his tone is brighter sounding and perhaps more distinct, especially when singing words vs the bass instrumental notes. Not sure if I'm conveying that correctly. It also seems like he's able to hit lower notes than at first and he then went pretty high on the new trailer. Plus that smile! He seems like he'd be genuinely fun to be around.
You stated that so well. I agree 100% Love Avi! Adore him! But I adore Matt as well. And I agree. The group has thrived since he came on. Not that they wouldn't have if Avi had stayed. But.....man, you know what I mean.
I think the group had to fumble around a little bit and rediscover themselves with Matt - nobody can deny they wouldn't have become PTX without Avi, but they wouldn't be who they are now without Matt. Both men are precious humans and add(ed) their own unique magic to the blend.
We Pentaholics tend to listen to the whole group first...then we pick someone...for me it's usually Scott because I feel he has the hardest job if he's not leading, having to sing 'around' Mitch and Kirstie... then I listen to Mitch, then Kirstie, then Kevin..then Matt...and then I listen to the whole group again ! So when we say we've listened/watched these vids hundreds of times.. we actually mean it literally 😊
Rather than just symbolically, they literally sing "in perfect harmony" IN perfect harmony. That's the part of the song where it's appropriate. In others, they do the more interesting thing of dropping in and out to build or pare back certain phrases. It's what they do better than any other group anywhere.
Thanks for another great reaction.Scott is heavily involved with arranging but they do have a permanent arranger/producer, Ben Bram, who has been with them from the start and over sees their music. As 2 of their 3 Grammys were for arranging Ben has 2 Grammys too! Ben was 'working' with Scott and encouraged him to enter "The Sing Off" competition and helped find the bass and beatboxer to fill the sound out.
The difference between the two FABULOUS PTX Basses, is that Matt is a Lyrical Bass & Avi is a Classical Bass! Which is why Avi resonates so well in their lead ups to The Evolution of Music & Aha! Both operatic pieces - Made for Avi’s voice. But Avi would not really have been able to pull the The Grinch lead, Matt was MADE for that AND for his rich role in the Sound of Silence (just 2 examples). The fact is, PTX said that they wanted to enter the chart scene with RnB and Pop sounds, remember? That’s what they said at the Sing Off because Sarah B was amazed that only 5 voices could sound so full! Of course Avi was part of that rich, full sound, but those genres were really not his style! He did a fabulous job achieving it anyway, but these genres are right up Matt’s street! He’s a natural! And for us, it’s a Win-Win situation, we had/have the best of both worlds!! I’m simply LOVING Matt!! 🤗
Love your reactions and this is one of my favourite songs of Pentatonix. I'm not sure if you realized, but everyone in here represents a character from the lion king. Scott and Matt are Timon and Pumbaa, Kirstie and Kevin are Nala and Simba, and Mitch is Zazu.
Oh, Mitch’s scarf! I found myself thinking about that bright scarf while they were singing. I was pondering if they chose it because it popped against all the brown and yellow tones because it really stands out or did Mitch insist on wearing it to be extra, 😁 or what? Now it makes sense, It’s exactly the color of zazzu’s wings! Thx!
That is so amazing. Props to whoever thought about doing that. It makes the whole vid so much more cinematographically appealing! I just love that person's brain.
Super reaction...one point to make...Scott maybe the "leader" for the arrangement, but historically, they ALL contribute to that (plus Ben Bram, who has been with them for years has a major input) !! BTW, Kirstie carried much of the load for these harmonies and deserves some kudos as well. Let's face it, this group is super, super talented and IMO, the best vocal GROUP on the planet !!
Ben Bram worked extensively behind the scenes of Pitch Perfect 1 and 2, The Sing-Off, and Glee, providing expertise as an arranger, coach, vocal producer, on set music director, and studio vocalist. So he has known Scott from his college days. I love that he still has such a close connection to PTX despite him having many irons in the fire besides PTX.
You love Mitch's voice like I do. You should listen to Superfruit (Mitch and Scott) doing Defying Gravity from "Wicked". Mitch is a lucky guy to have the abilities he has.
I really appreciate how you verbalize PTX's audio, as tp why it makes my ears so happy. I'm a 72 year old Viet Nam Vet, who has seen and participated in the horrors of war and I've loved these kids from jump street. Their love and zeal at performing their craft, helps to lift me out of some dark places and fill them with light. Their performances and your obvious joy in explaining how these musical savants, do what they do, gives me so many fun and happy moments. Please continue your expertise as I thank you and PTX.
I love this so much!!!!! I actually had to learn to gain an attraction to the the bass or baritone, because like yiu say, we are naturally attracted to the static harmony. Love your react!
I was always, and still am, totally in awe of Avi. My ear always gravitates toward lower tones, so now I do tend to focus on Matt. That being said...Mitch is...well, awesome.
Wow I just love this its so cool love ur reaction to Mitch it was brilliant made me chuckle Matt is very smooth in his vocals but I love Scott and Mitch most super fruit is a must watch as it's just them cheers for ur brilliant reactions to all the music videos u do love it will chat again Monday watch it go xxx
Hi fellow Tammy 👋🏼 have you noticed how many Tammy’s are Pentaholics? I think it’s because our name is Awesome. Anyway, I had a friend named Tammy George in high school. I went to N.P.H.S. and graduated in 1978. My maiden name is Block. So…if it’s you, I’d love to chat.
Ben Bram, Scott and Kevin I think are the main arrangers but they also do whole group jam session and brainstorm out stuff. There were a few songs on a particular album where Kevin did his own personal versions first and the group (probably Scott) was like "yeah let's do that!" Their mashup, New Rules X Are You That Somebody is an example and also showcases Matt quite well.
Matt is awesome! He has to live in the shadow of Avi, which must be so hard. Also worth a shout out to Scott who picks up the bass when Matt is singing his verse. It's a seamless transition! Love it.
Apart from the fact that Kirstin can sing and perform outstandingly well - man, she also looks so awesome, man, is that a woman.AND I find it sooo cute when she pulls her snout up to the side while singing... I could freak out!
I am SO thankful for you getting stunned now and then instead of cold-hearted analyze the video second by second. You are one hell of a music teacher, if you allow yourself to be that way with your students as well. Stay safe and healthy.
I have seen most of PTX reaction videos and I can easily say your reactions are the best. Love all information you tell and I'm now noticing things in their songs i didn't even know existed before. Thank you so much for doing this!
Thank you SO much @Temple Music Academy for tagging me on this so I would know you did it. So appreciated! Your reactions give me such joy as you recognize each and every member. I feel like Kirstie doesn’t get to lead as much as I would like. Maybe that makes me appreciate her so much more. You really “get” them already and I so appreciate that. Recent release with Kirstie as lead as she also wrote it is “Be My Eyes”.
Its one of the favourite things about PYX, you can listen to their songs over and over again and focus on one voice at a time and just be mind blown how incredibly talent they all are!🥰
Love your reactions to PTX - I think “Imagine” would be a good next video for you to react to, as you will definitely appreciate a little “Kevin surprise”... Thanks for spreading love into our hearts😆
From what I understand, the arranging is very collaborative. They all “jam” the arrangements and yes Ben Bram is a master arranger but I would not say it’s mostly only Scott and Ben. Kevin, Avi (and now I assume Matt), Mitch and Kirstie are also very key in the arrangement process.
For any Pentatonix song, after listening to the whole song the first time, i rewatch it with separate focus each time. First bass (Matt or Avi), then Mitch, Kevin, Kirstie and Scott. After that the bass is usually my primary focus (as a perc, I do love me a good bass.) And, depending upon the song, I will focus on the other members...but if Avi is in it, he pretty much has my full attention...Unless it is the Aha! Singapore Star Vista Live video, then it is split between him and Mitch.😄
Thank you thank you thank you for pointing out Matt's bass line ;it is so insane! I absolutely love the reaction with technical highlights. Been in music a long time and it's fun, for me, to hear. Had to add thanks for the Nerd out.
Matt is brilliant i hear so many say they miss avi bring him back but i think matt fits in perfectly with them great addition to the ptx family 😊 Great reaction as always thank you ptx are the best and mitch is just amazing maybe you could do some reactions to superfruit music from Scott and mitch defying gravity is amazing the promise 😊
They will release a "new" song tomorrow "Amazing Grace". I'm sure it will be fun to react to it. From the few snippets we got so far it's absolutely amazing. Or do "Come along". It's a crazy fun song to react to.
Once again you hit it out of the park for me! I have some musical background, definitely not professional, but enough to know what you are explaining. As Pentatonix have always described themselves as choir nerds and you describe yourself one as well, I think that is why you get so excited about how they sound and what they do. You made the comment that they always sound so fresh and I love this. I have been watching them since they began back in 2011, and all their music is still fresh for me, no matter how many times I hear it. As a Pentaholic their amazing works of musical art will never get old for me!
I love your blissful expression when you listen to them. It probably mirrors mine. Their arrangements kill me but then there is their rendition of said arrangement. A real singers workshop. There is sooooo much to listen, notice and appreciate. Those key changes, that set, their smart outfits, that gospel twist, that peaceful ending... Matt is the new bass but I love how his voice blends amazingly well with Scott in the higher ranger, just like Mitch and Kirstin’s voices can. And Kevin, oh my goodness Kevin! They are riveting. Love your comments and reaction. 🤗
Lucky like number 315!! Hey there 🤗 So glad you enjoyed this one I know I sure do 🎼 I still get goosebumps when Scott follows up with his "WOAHOAH" after Mitch's line "It is where we are" 😊 Yes more Pentatonix please 👍 See ya later 👋🗻
Thank you so much for this video! I love your reactions! And until you mentioned "listen" after the modulation and then your expression when we heard Mitch. I had Missed it when I watched it the first time. Appreciate that!
I really LOVE your reactions. Nerd out all you want because I totally do too. While I can't sing worth a darn, I have a good ear and can pick out their specific voices and what they are doing. Matt, the bass....what a vice! They are all amazing
I’d offer.... they all are involved in arrangement.... and IMO is exactly how you pick up the “build” around each singer that moves to the front... while others continue to build around it as a whole.... really enjoying your reactions to them..... And we have another Pentaholic! Welcome DJ
Thanks for this reaction! I really love it, stay save and cool (as always)❤ Mitch always nailing his part, i have goosbumps every single time when he got this high pitch :D Ah and Matt.. Matt for me was the best in Sound of Silence (but that u already know!)
Great MITCH SLAP. When they sing “perfect harmony” in a perfect 5 part harmony, it gets me every time. My favorite is Mitch because he’s, well Mitch. Then it’s Mr. freak of nature Kevin. I’ve watched them from the beginning and watched them grow up. I also raised four daughters so understand that you love each one of your children just differently.
@@TempleMusicAcademy Same here. I'm fostering 4, 4½ week old kittens. I've had them for over 2 weeks. One died Monday, another one died Tuesday. My heart was broken. I had a lot of love and support from friends and family, and this song just reminded me of that. It definitely made my day!
Great reaction! Always on stand by for your next PTX. check out 'You're a Mean One Mr Grinch' to hear Matt solo and 'New Rules x Are You that Somebody' for another Matt-Kevin masterpiece. Thanks! Greetings from the Philippines .🇵🇭
I knew you'd love this one! I've been anxiously wondering when you'd get around to it, and you didn't disappoint. Once again, your trained ear picked out so many things that I didn't hear before. Thank you, thank you!
Kevin puts in the 4th of the cords. Kevin's voice and skill shine and fill out all the beautiful cords. He has the magic part that brings it all together.
I’m so glad that I found your channel at this point in time, bud. I’ve only recently started going down the PTX rabbit-hole (repeated listens to Daft Punk, Amazing Grace & Hallelujah). This is my very first time hearing this PTX arrangement, and it’s so great to experience it through your perceptions. I truly enjoy hearing a piece of music for the first time with a bona fide Music Theory nerd (that’s a compliment, not an insult, btw). I love how you point out those subtleties and nuances that we listeners seem to miss on the 1st pass. Great ear, my friend- and dang, what an absolute BEAST Mitch is when he goes stratospheric! Much respect for your nuts-and-bolts analyses, bro. Looking forward to more!
if you see this, i recommend listening to their cover of cosmo sheldrake's come along. it's a fantastic vehicle for matt's range and it really showcases how well they work as a group.
I have this thing I do to challenge myself. I will listen to a Ptx song 5 times, each time focusing on a different member of the group. It is really hard to do & I am not very good at it, but it's anvenjoyable challenge! Matt is amazing, but all of them are! Kevin is out of this world talented too. I think you already know that Kevin plays cello & sax, & sometimes plays celloboxing with Ptx but I don't think he has ever played sax with them.
I really like the way he noticed the little parts mitch had during the harmonies, nobody else I've seen who has reacted to this has pointed it out or noticed it yet.
It’s so refreshing to hear someone finally give Matt some kudos. Avi was and still is amazing but Matt is a technically brilliant bass and overall musician that is so crazy good.
Just to let you know, PTX is releasing a new video Thursday. Amazing Grace. Looks beautiful, and Matt's singing the lead. Another song they do that matt is the lead, is the grinch.
I think Matt was the perfect choice. Not only is he great on what he does but he has such a nice vibe and captivating smile and energy, which is exactly what PTX is all about. Love them as singers and people as well.
I am totally digging your nerdy comments, well all your comments. You've won me over after watching just 2 videos. And YES thank you for pointing out Kevin's beatbox/percussion, his talent blows me away every time but doing that 80's drum beat from mid to end was what I was drawn to. That takes nothing away from Scott, Mitch, Kristin and Matt because this was amazing.
I love the way Mitch says "fuck" to dress code. There they are, with a huge sun behind, in an African set and Mitch wearing a coat and scarf hahaha....he's soooooo my favorite. Love him!! 😄
Him at the beginning: holy wow
Me: **grabs popcorn for later when Mitch slaps those high notes**
Matt is my absolute favorite. People are FINALLY beginning to give him his due. I understand why they didn’t at first though, and it had nothing to do with Matt. People were heartbroken that Avi left. I was as well, and to be honest... I was ready to hate whoever took his place. But then I heard him.
It's not like I don't like Matt, I just like Avi better and prefer the group with Avi.

Hell yes. She's amazing

Hey Jo! Im glad I saw this bc it creates a multitude of questions lol
^^ ALL of this!
They could make a special version like at "can't, sleep, love" to every song.
@@ellenhofrath you mean like the interactive version?
@@lexymich22 yes, exactly. So you can focus on each one at a time.
They sing it themselves: "in perfect harmony".
Absolutely stunning
absolutely right
Rather than just symbolically, they literally sing "in perfect harmony" IN perfect harmony. That's the part of the song where it's appropriate. In others, they do the more interesting thing of dropping in and out to build or pare back certain phrases. It's what they do better than any other group anywhere.
His name is Matt. Listen to the bass line he does on Havana. It's awesome
Havana and also New Rules. Both bass lines in those songs Matt is absolutely incredible.
I love Mitch’s smile when he knows he’s about to do something special

(I’m starting to think Matt’s voice is actually a better blend than Avi’s. I know, sacrilegious)
Avi is great that's why I think he went solo. Matt blends with them really really good, even better than it is with Avi.

Hey there 🤗
So glad you enjoyed this one I know I sure do 🎼
I still get goosebumps when Scott follows up with his "WOAHOAH" after Mitch's line "It is where we are" 😊
Yes more Pentatonix please 👍
See ya later 👋🗻
Highly recommend New Rules X Are you that Somebody. It's amazing. It really shows off Scott, Matt and Kevin especially, well all of them really, lol
Thank you so much for this video! I love your reactions! And until you mentioned "listen" after the modulation and then your expression when we heard Mitch. I had Missed it when I watched it the first time. Appreciate that!
Another Pentaholic that found your site. I love your reactions. I have been a fan of theirs since The Sing Along. Home Free too!
I really LOVE your reactions. Nerd out all you want because I totally do too. While I can't sing worth a darn, I have a good ear and can pick out their specific voices and what they are doing. Matt, the bass....what a vice! They are all amazing
I can see why makes you such a great teacher... You love it!
You look just so happy when you listen to them. :)
I’d offer.... they all are involved in arrangement.... and IMO is exactly how you pick up the “build” around each singer that moves to the front... while others continue to build around it as a whole.... really enjoying your reactions to them..... And we have another Pentaholic! Welcome DJ
Also, check out Aha, Live in Singapore... really shows Avi's LOW range and Mitch's 6 octave range!
Matt is a sublime bass! Love him!!
I love that you're so genuine and really enjoy the music, keep it coming! Hugs from Sweden! :D
I am absolutely LIVING for your facial expressions! This is a great reaction. The sincerity is heart warming and quite welcoming. Thank you kindly! 😊
Thank you for the kind words. I’ve had a difficult day today and this made me feel better ❤️
@@TempleMusicAcademy Same here. I'm fostering 4, 4½ week old kittens. I've had them for over 2 weeks. One died Monday, another one died Tuesday. My heart was broken. I had a lot of love and support from friends and family, and this song just reminded me of that. It definitely made my day!
this is my #1 favorite cover by PTX! I can't wait to see them live one day!
Good shit 🔥🔥🔥🤙🏽
❤
I knew you'd love this one! I've been anxiously wondering when you'd get around to it, and you didn't disappoint. Once again, your trained ear picked out so many things that I didn't hear before. Thank you, thank you!
Feels like an unpopular opinion, but Scott hits HARD it my soul, and might be my favorite, together with all the others of course
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I find I hear Scott all the time. He's the anchor for me, with everyone else circling him. They're all incredible, aren't they?
Kevin puts in the 4th of the cords. Kevin's voice and skill shine and fill out all the beautiful cords. He has the magic part that brings it all together.
When I first heard Matt in "New Rules x Are You That Somebody?" I got floored by how good he was. You should listen to that one!
Another fantastic review.
I love their version of "Shallow" and "Its a Mad World'!. amazing
if you see this, i recommend listening to their cover of cosmo sheldrake's come along. it's a fantastic vehicle for matt's range and it really showcases how well they work as a group.
It's always such a joy watching you reacting to them.. please don't stop! And you're so right, Matt is fantastic!
Mitch always amazes me. No matter what he is singing, it always looks effortless.
It is so awesome to watch you react and just LIGHT UP! I love watching people feel the music like I do.
Fun fact: this song starts in A Major, modulates 3 times (1:23, 2:38, 3:07), ending back in A Major. Almost like the circle of life.
Imo this is their most beautiful sounding song behind Hallelujah
Just to let you know, PTX is releasing a new video Thursday. Amazing Grace. Looks beautiful, and Matt's singing the lead. Another song they do that matt is the lead, is the grinch.
Wow! Can't wait!
What?? I can't wait!!!
I love them all so much
I think Matt was the perfect choice. Not only is he great on what he does but he has such a nice vibe and captivating smile and energy, which is exactly what PTX is all about. Love them as singers and people as well.
Yay you finally did this song awesome man thanks for taking your fans into consideration we love you buddy
Love him!! 😄
Love your reaction to PTX, Thank you so much. I never get tired of listening again and again to their music!
Thanks for you reactions and giving names and descriptions to the incredible things we Pentaholics know we love but don't always know how to describe.
There is NO BETTER TIME than THIS WEEK to check out their "IMAGINE" cover - trust me!!!!
They just make you smile when they sing🌹
PTX JUST DROPPED A NEW 🎵 🎶 🎵 SONG!!! Amazing Grace!!!
Love your reaction, love so much this song, love Pentatonix 🌸
