    I finally did it! I hope you enjoyed following along on my first time shooting 35mm film :) As mentioned in the video, I currently don't have a proper overview of film stocks I want to try, so if you have any recommendations please tell me! :)
    Have a good week,
    Teo

      Do it! I found it very enjoyable - so grab that old camera from your parents attic or else where and do it (don't procrastinate on it like I did ooops :D)

    Welcome to film photography! Hope you enjoy shooting film. I just discovered your channel and you seem to have pretty good stuff. Based on your style, I'd recommend you to shoot on Cinestill 800T or Kodak Vision 500T film stock.

      Ohh yes I am! :D
      Ahh ok, thanks for the recommendations! I've indeed often eyed Cinestill films👀✌🏼

    Using the same light meter app here, sometimes just to get a feeling of the current daylight brightness. Like guessing the 100 iso ev value and then checking with the app haha

    Love it, man! Your videos are always on point, I really enjoy your approach to photography compared to others. I love the reasons and descriptions you have for every photo. Since you're a fan of the greens, I'd check out Fuji Pro 400h. I feel like it fits the vibe you have going on, especially seeing your digital work and how greens and cooler tones are very prominent in the overall tonality of your photography. It's a prosumer film but it definitely has the look you're going for. Superia 200 & 400 are great more consumer-friendly options as well. I've probably shot more Superia 400 than any other film, I've got like 15 rolls right now. I've shot 2-3 rolls of Superia 200 and actually prefer the look of it over 400. I have extreme magenta shifts with Superia 400 when I develop and scan it at home, and it takes a bit of post-work to get it looking good, I never had that issue with 200. It seems like labs have Superia 400 locked down and know how to balance that all out, everytime I sent 400 off to a lab they do a great job of getting it to look like the classic Superia color with a heavier green cast that's prominent in the shadows and cooler skin tones. Anywho, that's just my 2 cents. Look forward to seeing more of your film work!

      @teocrawford  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohh thank you Spencer!
      Cool, Fuji Pro 400h sounds good - as of it being a Prosumer film I guess I'll still wait a while before shooting that and get some practice with the cheaper ones🤷🏻‍♂️
      Well thanks a lot for your 2 cents!🙇🏻‍♂️

    This is an impressive first roll Teo! Mine was not good as I didn't know how to meter properly at first. Also shooting with expired film yields interesting results and some photographers prefer expired film; my first few rolls were shot with 20-year expired (not stored properly) Kodak Gold 200. I loved this film stock and the expiration didn't lessen the quality really, but it did give a 70s/80s vibe which I happened to be going for. I would recommend that one especially for golden hour shots. Portra 400 is also very popular because of the colors and fine grain; I enjoyed this stock as well but it's more expensive than the Gold 200 - I also prefer overexposing with this stock. I'm currently trying Portra 160 and waiting to see how those shots come out. If you did want to try B&W then I recommend the Tri-X 400; I've never shot with B&W before and did so with one roll of that with a point & shoot camera and was pleased with the results, but I prefer color as well (plus you can always edit a photo to be B&W even though some would say that's cheating lol). Experimenting and waiting for the results (even when they're bad) is so fun! I bring a notebook with me when I shoot to note when I overexpose or do long exposures so when I get the photos back I know what was a screw up vs what worked - I recommend the note taking, it will help you learn and keep track of things! Shooting this way also teaches patience and discipline in my opinion; I'm shooting like crazy with my digital camera and I only like a handful of shots lol but I'm learning a lot from that too so there are benefits of both mediums for sure. Looking forward to seeing more film work in the future. Stay safe!

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey thank's a lot for all the info! Portra has been on my list, I definitely want to try it out! I've actually already got a roll of Kodak Gold in the fridge waiting to be shot :D
      And yes, I also enjoyed the waiting process - it was somehow annoying to have to wait so long, but all the more rewarding and satisfying when I finally get to see the results!
      Ohh taking notes is a good idea - I kind of see these videos as my form of note-taking :)
      More is on the way! Stay safe too!🙌🏼

    Have you been able to shoot Fuji Superia 400? Or 200c? I know both of these tend to shift towards the greens.

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not yet! But I've got an eye on those Fuji films. I was quite upset lately as they announced the discontinuation of FujiPro400H, because that one was also very attractive for me😔

      @@teocrawford me too, never got to shoot it and now I don’t know if I will get to. Superia 400 and C200 both have great colors but so far the dynamic range isn’t as good as portra or gold, need to get some more gold 😏

    This is wonderful! I personally enjoy Fuji film stocks. Don’t get me wrong Kodak makes wonderful films but I feel from the video you would enjoy dipping your toes in Fuji color stocks. I also wanted to ask if you’d be doing your own development? Or just sending off to a lab?

    Beautiful shots considering the age of the film.
    May your freezer/fridge be full of film for years to come!

    You seems to COMPLAIN a lot about this and that in almost all those pictures you took which is so annoying to hear. Embrace the imperfection of the film stocks (be it expired or not) because that's what it make aesthetically pleasing.

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohh no, I wasn't intending to complain😬
      I just stay rather critical with the photos and myself, but maybe I should indeed embrace the nature of film even more.
