I’ve used your channel as my continuing education for my last interview and saying you provide real world scenarios and up to date techniques for the UI/UX industry. I did get the job by the way.
Mike. I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Last week, I started my first UI/UX Design job at an agency. I've been watching your videos from the beginning when I was just getting started and you were the one that inspired me to not pursue college for design. I worked my tail off and it finally paid off. You've been the most relatable, honest person out there speaking on line about this stuff. This video is so true.
Congrats Nate. So glad for you man. I’m just on the same spot as you. Any knowledge you’re able to share will be deeply appreciated. We can connect outside here if you don’t mind. Thanks
ahh, i have a ux/ui designer interview tomorrow with no portfolio, background, i applied due to personal interest and have nothing to showcase. I've been terrifeid about it and anxiety has been piling up becuase I feel like i won't be good enough compared to my competitors who have outstanding profiles. im so glad ive found your youtube, this video really helped me feel better and hopefully I could show them that I am the person they would like to wokr with because its a passion of mine despite the lack of experience. thank u !!
After 50+ applications I finally actually got my second interview in the UX Design field ever. The first one lasted 2 minutes after she asked if I had specific experience designing salesforce. Going back to this video now. Its in 3 hours!
When they ask if you have any real project experience. If they don’t have experience working in a tech environment - get them to look at all the other positive qualities of this candidate. Don’t be ashamed. Don’t feel like they re laughing at your because you have no experience. NO I don’t but I’m looking forward to learning as much as.I can and working with the product development team and engineers and seeing this project through. Ive been watching a lot of TH-cam channels of prominent people in the industry talking about the ins and outs of seeing a product through. I’m really looking forward to working on a real project and using all of the other assets I bring to the table. I’m a quick learner and I’m very excited to get started and apply everything I know into a real project. I do have graphic and web design experience working on real projects. I have worked with startups and helped improve their brand voice and increase engagement.
As someone whose putting together his first portfolio for next few months ; you have no clue how this video would help me in 2018 when i actually appear for my first interview ! always had this question back in my head! thankyou so much mike! you're the king.
As an aspiring UI designer who is very eager, but looking for the right next steps to take..this is EXACTLY the type of the information I was looking for! Thank you!
shishihenge its never too late. I just started taking this seriously after 10 years of being your run of the mill advertisement graphic designer. Good luck to you!
Same here I was doing graphic work which turned into direct mail programming so I've been out of the loop since 2008 and I am done with direct mail. I want to do creative work again!
my freakin predicament right now....did web design for 6 years.... went to 20+ UI/UX interviews... couldn't convince anyone to hire me...there are so many experienced competitors in the market during COVID-19
Well, I wish employers would be as considerate as you mention here in the video. Unfortunately, the reality is that they outright reject you without even contacting you for an interview based on your lack of experience or during the phone conversation they just cut off the interview process by telling you they are not interested to move forward in the process because you don't have that golden number of years in your resume that they want to see. If you are not from the country, then it's more worse where they don't even bother to ask anything further after knowing that you are not from around here.
I have a good portfolio, revised my resume 5 times, got bachelor + certification in UX, got 6 months internship, got 1 year contract work and I still cannot land a full time job. Wtf do they want from me ? I'm so tired of interviewing. Wanting to work shouldn't be this hard. I am considering bank robbery now 🤣
Hey Mike...very smart advice selling yourself. Just joking...thanks for giving that boost I needed. I have to disagree with you on this one. Here in England it always bogs down to look your experience and nothing else. I have experience in other IT field not UX but still that is not taken into account. If all recruiters were like you and not thinking short term then I would have better chances and them seeing beyond and recognise my potential. But I keep going and looking while on another job. On a plus side, a friend needs my assistance on building his website for his new company so I can now add that to my experience. This hopefully boost my chances for getting into UX. Thanks Mike you are a star.
Hey Mike, I just started watching your videos, they are helping me to overcome the interview fears. would it be possible to review my portfolio? It would really be of great help to me.
Hey Mike! I wanted to know if you can add concept/personal projects to your resume? If so, what do you look for on a resume in terms of concept work when you are hiring Visual Designers?
Hi Mike, I have been a graphic designer for the past 15 years and now planning to make switch to UX. Have a lot my work more related to it and have done a live project of redesigning a website, but hiring companies are convinced. Need your help in this case...
Hi Mike, i have one question, Q: what professional skills i should add in my CV as a senior UI/UX designer, actually i am trying to make my CV sins one month and i am still confuse about it because i think it is not looking professional and not representing my capability, i have lack of strong words which i want to put to explain my skills.
everything what you said is very useful - thanks for that. but I have one question - if I'm begginer UI/UX designer, I don't have experience and any commercial project what kind of job should I looking for ? As a junior ? Internship ? Or try just as a UX/UI designer ?
Adding to this video, should you apply to UxUI design jobs that require +3 years of experience even if you’re a noobie or have less experience? Is it worth a shot to give it a try?
What about if it is quite a saturated market and a lot of UX/UI designers are furiously competing each other to get the same job from the same company. And you are the one who has less experience (you are the newcomer)? - How can we overcome that? - From what I have experienced so far, a lot of hiring managers or hiring agencies don't really care about you, they care about filling in positions (agencies). I find most of the time, they don't care how much passion you have and your journey. But more to experiences. - It would help me a lot to deal with it if I know good solution to this! It is how the market in my country (EU) is right now and I plan to find a job in UX design in the next 6 months or so (now I'm studying it). Thanks.
i'm 22 & just plunged into the world of UX/UI design and i'm a little anxious bcoz i cannot wait to do some practical work and gain hands on experience. your videos are seriously gem 💖. And nobody better than a UX designer can answer this question which i want to ask and i.e whether coding/programming is essential for a UX designer? i have done plethora of research on google and have found out that having basic knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and a little bit of Javascript is enough for a UX designer, is it true? P.S: i seriously don't like coding and programming but just learned above 3 languages for the sake of it.
I’ve used your channel as my continuing education for my last interview and saying you provide real world scenarios and up to date techniques for the UI/UX industry. I did get the job by the way.
Congrats!
Just seen this comment, awesome! Congrats!
Myron what was your background before this?

As someone who is job hunting at the moment, this is so helpful and such a confidence booster. Thank you!

Thanks for this! New to the UX team and this was very helpful, especially after rejection letters. Interviews ARE tough!

Learned so much from this Brother. Continue to be blessed, Mike. Shout out from Lancaster, CA
This was a breath of fresh air, thank you so much
If only this channel has been around since 2014, I would’ve reached my career goals by now.

What’s your outside experience? What market do you live in?
Thank you for covering this! I needed to hear this today.

You are a really nice human being! Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us!
This is very relevant to my current situation. I am getting a lot of call from recruiters. Please make more videos on this!
Thank you for the confidence boost!
Thanks Mike! Your words keep me pushing.

Hi Mike, should i add my practice projects to the experience?
Great video, thank you for this! :)
Make a podcast how to handle and answer bad feedback from stakeholders and how to react

What to do when you stuck during the interview? forgot the words or can't come up with the proper answer?
You are awesome!!

What do you mean by deep levels of interaction?
Thanks brother!
How do you decide between designer and developer?
Adding to this video, should you apply to UxUI design jobs that require +3 years of experience even if you’re a noobie or have less experience? Is it worth a shot to give it a try?
Is there a top age limit for looking for a job as a newbie UX designer? Does the industry care about this issue?
Hey Mike, I sent you a message through the academy, but didn’t get a response! Appreciate these great videos! Thanks

Use your interview to promote Mike. LULZ.
Pretty sure saying you wanna "learn" in an interview is viewed pretty negatively. Employers want to hire someone that can do the job. Bad advice here.
