I can't even stand the Dance Moms lady and refuse to watch any of it, but she hit the nail on the head talking about JoJo and her mom. I feel really sorry for her. I hope she gets distance from her family and some MASSIVE therapy to realize how fucked up her life has been. And hopefully have all of her own bank accounts in different banks than they currently are so her mom/family can't have any access to them anymore.

    It feels really weird for her to say that she admits she’s not a good singer but still considers herself an artist when she hasn’t written a song herself. So what is making her an artist if it’s not the singing or songwriting? (Or really the choreography tbh)

    • @ChiIIi...
      @ChiIIi... 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +37

      I think you got the meaning of artist wrong. And artist is just someone who creates art it doesn't matter if it's bad or if it isn't. Music is considered art and since she makes music she is considered an artist.

    • @StarwarsCustomizer12
      @StarwarsCustomizer12 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +39

      @@ChiIIi... I get that, but it feels odd for someone to say they’re an artist if they are not creating the music and say they don’t sing well. It’s like me who admits I cannot draw well, tracing a picture poorly and then saying I’m an artist. Did I contribute some kind of creative amount to it to say on a technicality it is an art piece by me? sure but would others then agree with me when I say I’m an artist? Probably not.

    • @Superrocksocks1
      @Superrocksocks1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      @@StarwarsCustomizer12artist just means you are involved in an art. it doesnt have to be good or creative, especially in mainstream music, to be called an artist. someone could be a terrible benchwarmer in high school football, they’re still an athlete because of the role that they were given even if they hardly play. regardless, a lot of artists dont write their own music and depend heavily on autotune, especially today. they’re still allowed to be called an artist since its a classification and the only requirement is that they perform an art. also, your comparison is a little off. any musical artist can release an original art since everyones voice is unique to them. the same cant be true for a physical art like drawing or dancing, because those moves/art can be copied by anyone and its unacceptable unless its augmented. tracing someone elses art is quite literally copying them and plagiarism whereas singing someone elses song is considered a cover and acceptable since another persons voice would be unique.

    • @StarwarsCustomizer12
      @StarwarsCustomizer12 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      @@Superrocksocks1 I’ve never said they aren’t an artist. I’ve only said it sounds odd for her to say in the same breath that she’s not good but still considers herself an artist. On a technicality, yes, she is still an artist no one is debating that here. Does it still sound odd? Yeah. If that benchwarmer was going around trying to get interviews with the sports broadcasters saying I suck at football but I’m an athlete and am reinventing football with my new playing style of “gay football”, they too would probably be dunked on like Jojo is.

      I would say the music and singing and coreo are more like the tools an artist uses. Like paint brushes or clay, a way to get her idea across. She's still the artist with an idea, but she's not an artist defined by which tools she uses if that makes sense?

      @@thehousecat93I agree that she will have to reckon with this, but I think it's important to keep in mind that she was still a kid when that happened, and is still a kid now. it is not fair to hold a teenager fully responsible for perpetuating a cycle of abuse they have been trapped in since they could form memories. that kind of treatment is all she has known, and she has been told her entire life that it is a good and appropriate way to treat people.

      @@johngradycole92 I could be wrong, but I just recently saw a breakdown here on YT of the XOMG problems and for at least a good chunk of that time, Jojo was an adult. As someone who loved Dance Moms growing up who watched Jessalyn and Abby's treatment of her in real time, I agree in the one sense that she is the product of all of the abusive adults in her life ... buuut, as someone who also experienced extensive childhood abuse, there often comes a point where you decide that you never want to do to another child what your own parents did to you. Jojo has yet to have that moment and is instead continuing the cycle, despite a LOT of people who have called her out on it. It's her own choice now not to change, lots of people grow up abused and don't become abusers.

She never had a normal childhood or was able to find out who she was on her own. As someone who also wasn't able to have a childhood experience for different reasons it makes me sad.

Also unfortunately for jojos marketing team, the transition from squeeky clean child star to raunchy adult artist is significantly smoother today than it was 10yrs ago, mostly thanks to miley n those before her taking the worst of it. After bangers nothing any child star does to switch images will have the same impact, it all feels either like not a big deal or like theyre being a cringey try hard. Once she's learned it one specific way, it's impossible to teach her the right way. You can see even back in her dance moms days, she was horrible at making adjustments. And unfortunately this behavior has followed her to adulthood.
    It doesn't help that she's now SURROUNDED by yes men who are being paid to be there for her. When she dances badly, nobody tells her because they're all dancing in HER studio with HER NAME ON THE WALL. When she sings badly, they can't say anything because their salaries are all being paid off by Jojo and her mom. Jojo can not take criticism and/or adjustments at all. I find it so funny that she said she said she wasn't the president just the CEO, when typically they are the exact same thing, but when they aren't the CEO is above the president. She's... not the brightest cookie.

      It’s honestly the perfect metaphor for Jojo, “I didn’t create this, but now I’m trying to make as much as I can for this business”

    I'm so glad you mentioned Hayley Kiyoko she isn't mentioned enough and she had the biggest impact and change. When she came out everyone hated her but she survived and honestly I think she is way more legendary than Miley Cyrus or anyone for that matter. From Disney star to lesbian artist was a huge controversy then. She deserves way more recognition I remember she was the IT girl of lesbians when I came out. She paved the way for gay people especially gay women. I think she was either the first or one of the first lesbians to go mainstream.
