    I know it’s been a minute :) dropping up real time vlogs in a couple days but wanted to post this first! I’ve watched this crap in silence for so long & the reason I go hard on these people is because the negative ripple effects of following diets like this (under the name of veganism & weight loss) can be catastrophic! I’ve seen way to many women in particular suffer as a result of following this insanely restrictive nonsense. With the exception of freelee (hers was a very old video for giggles & I like her), but with the other 2 what you are watching here is “health professionals” projecting their own eating disorders onto other people in the name of a good cause. Do better! I only make these because I genuinely care about the physical & mental health of others. Laterz & stay tuned xx

    It took my eating disorder brain a damn long time to understand the importance of adding fats to my food to absorb all the good nutrients in there... Let me tell you I got PUNISHED by my body for removing all the fats; my skin turned dry as the desert and I got hormonal acne that looked like small bugs had bitten me all over my face and neck:) THANK YOU MILES once again for bringing some sense into this mad world!!

    Definitely a part 2!🎉 thank you for highlighting how unhealthy these extreme diets are. I followed a couple of them and they made me feel like shit for not being as “disciplined” so I got rid. I love how you promote such a healthy, balanced & VARIED diet and you never push your opinions or lifestyle choices on others. This is what makes people watch, learn and make better choices. 😊

    I worked with healthy emmie. She is the worst. So dangerous. I’ve never had more of an unhealthy relationship with food. I was scared to add tahini or avocado to anything. She said things like “since you’re heavier you can get by with having a little fat and still lose” it was awful. I’m embarrassed I paid for that.

    Yesssss!!! Part 2 please. I’m 62 and vegan for 7 years. I’ve tried no salt/oil/sugar. That equals no taste. I’ve tried all fruit and craved savory foods. I’ve tried no bread, the starch solution, all raw, etc. Many times, I forced myself to eat these recipes or “experiments” to keep from wasting food. Fortunately, I came to my senses within a few weeks of trying these extreme approaches. I now try to eat as much (NOT exclusively) raw vegan food during weekdays and have cooked vegan food on the weekends. I take no medications and have perfect blood work. One thing about the “Starch Solution” and some of the other diets out here is that they don’t take into consideration what the body needs as it ages. My best friend and I ate a lot of starches upon going vegan. This was before we ever heard of Dr. McDougall. Starches like potatoes were eaten to feel full and beans for protein. But because we are older, starches caused weight gain. After ago 60, metabolism goes weigh down. My friend’s husband co-wrote a few chapters in Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s book, “Fast Food Genocide.” So we have been paying attention to a lot of the vegan/plant-based diets for over 15 years now. I like Fuhrman’s nutritarian approach. But basically, I try to make sure I’m getting enough nutrients for my age without gaining weight. And I also make sure that I am eating things that I like so that I can sustain my diet rather than forcing myself to eat a bunch of tasteless food and then getting discouraged in the long-run.

      I hear you :) I am almost 44 but yes metabolism changes for sure with age. And I absolutely cannot stand not tasty food (that's why i made my own TH-cam channel with delicious foods :) I am experimenting with raw food myself but not sure if i can do all raw all the time ...we'll see after my 90 day challenge lol. How do you manage to eat all raw all week and then cooked on weekends though? I think i would overeat that way... hmm ...

  • @idobelieveinfaeries
    @idobelieveinfaeries 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I DO think there is a difference between counting calories vs being aware of calorie density. Being aware of what type of foods have a higher calorie density can be very useful for people wanting to loose weight, or for anyone learning to regulate portion sizes, and can serve as a gateway to intuitive eating. It means, for example, that whilst eating an entire jar of peanut butter might not seem like a lot of food, its probably not a great idea for someone trying to loose weight. People who are attuned to their feelings of hunger and satiety will know this intuitively, but we have to meet ourselves where we're at. On the other hand, exact calorie counting is usually unnecessary, and often leads to obsession or harmful restriction.

Now after 8 years being vegan and becoming an RD I see how much damage this causes to people who just want to be healthy and don't know any better. So I have to stick up for chef AJ. She realized she was a volume eater so she eats large amounts of low calorie, high nutrient foods to fill herself up. I get your point about ED, but she is way better off and healthier than when she was overweight.
    So...I wouldn't throw her out completely. She interviews a lot of great people and I feel like she genuinely tries to help people.

    Look, I do agree on some points you raise in this video. However, this is kind of easy for you to say these ways of eating are "restrictive" when you're a man who can eat a ton of calories, jars of nut butters etc. while still staying shredded. Some people are not that lucky. I'm a 5'2 lean and fit woman and I do have to be careful with the amount of fat I eat (or count calories) to maintain my weight. And I workout everyday.

    As someone that had an eating disorder, I absolutely agree. When I was trying to “recover” and wanted to remain vegetarian, did I follow yours or UVs advice to eat the foods you enjoy? No, I wanted to listen to some of the crazy extreme “eat all fruit and steamed veggies” people. Because they said this was healthy. Was I gullible? Absolutely not, but I used these people to rationalize restriction. Creators that put these crazy diets out there know what they’re doing.

    I’ve jumped from eating disorder to eating disorder since I went vegan. I’m still vegan and will continue to be- for the animals -, but this toxic community has truly fucked up my relationship with food. Specially when I had absolutely no access to any knowledgeable people about a healthy vegan diet, I justified my disordered eating with all these bullshit advice. Even now I feel like I have a million different voices in my head making me feel guilty about everything I eat. I wish I had never fallen into these rabbit holes… because guess what? After almost a decade of this I’m STILL overweight and have a very unhealthy relationship with food. But most of all I hate how this dilutes and distorts the core message of veganism!

    YES! I was severely deficient in vitamin D and was told by my life coach (but not the Dr that prescribed the massive doses of vitamin D) that I needed to to be taking the supplements with some form of fat for it to be absorbed properly. Great video!

      Never listen to a life coach for medical advice their job isn’t to prescribe supplements or meal plans that’s really against their scope of practice they are just making sure you keep paying them so they come up with random “solutions”

      @@claire6568 I am actually very worried about her. She has absolutely zero muscle mass, which is extremely important as you age, and is already showing signs of developing a hunchback due to loss of bone.

    • @nicolemitsi
      @nicolemitsi 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Atheria444 agree. Evidence suggests that women (especially post menopause) actually have higher protein requirements as their hormones put them in a more catabolic state. I'm all for whole-foods (I eat mostly WFPB myself) but I don't believe in excluding/limiting essential macronutrients. I did the high starch/low fat thing years ago and had to eat so much to feel satiated and lost so much muscle mass. Nowadays I incorporate more plant-based protein (beans, lentils, tofu, tempeh, etc) and some fats (avocado, nut butter, etc) and feel so much more satiated from my meals. As a result I've gained muscle, lost fat, and have improved my athletic performance. I also worry whether she is getting enough calcium/vitamin D in her diet.

    Miles, this is one of the best videos you have posted. Although I know some genuinely want to help others, until you are 1,000% mentally healthy, you should not be instructing other people regarding diet and nutrition. Instead of dealing with mental health, some online focus on food. I'm very worried about AJ.
