I believe this is the 4th time I have watched this Neon Tetra breeding series. I haven't succeeded breeding any egg scatterers yet but I am still as enthousiastic about it as I was the first time I came along this series about 2 years ago. Every time I watch and listen I find more details that may get me to a successful breeding attempt. Currently I am setting up 2 tanks again for a fresh attempt breeding Hyphessobrycon Cyanotaenia. EXCITED as ever about it.
Thanks Mark. I'm planning a return to fishkeeping following a 40 year break from the hobby. I've watched a lot of TH-cam videos about fishkeeping and breeding recently but this Neon series was by far the most inspirational.
Before I saw this series, I thought it was impossible to breed Neons. Keep up the awesome work. You are truely one of the best aquatics channels out there. You deserve much more than 8300 subscribers. Love your videos ;)
Thanks for another great video, I've really been enjoying these breeding series. Friday I was taking down my old Apistogramma triple red spawning tank (upgraded them to a bigger setup) and behind the mattenfilter I found one tiny little neon tetra fry. It's about 6-8mm long and showing just his blue at the moment. The only thing I can figure is that the egg slipped through the 45 ppi foam filter, hatched and couldn't get back through the foam. Luckily it was a very mature tank with plenty of infusoria to feed on. Anyway I thought that was a interesting little story and a good reminder to always triple check your tanks when making big changes/moves, life will always find a way to surprise you!
I just recently discovered your enjoyable channel and watched your Neon Tetra video. Just a suggestion about culturing infusoria I wanted to share with you and your viewers. These cultures start off with a bacterial bloom, as I'm sure you know. It is the stinkiest stage. I've always found it helps to add trickle aeration, just a few bubbles per second, will help keep the cultures fresher smelling and more productive. The Paramecia, which usually dominate these cultures, are also phototropic like Artemia nauplii so a small light coming through a slit cut in dark paper around the culture container helps concentrate them for making a harvesting a denser quantity of animalcules per unit of withdrawn water. Keep up your good work. You do a great job of sharing your accumulated knowledge.
Love the series of videos on these neon tetras. The amount of information and the little side notes you tell, shows how much you take pride in doing these videos. Thank you sir, for what you do! 👍. I have a school of neon and cardinals that I will attempt to try this in the very near future.
New to TH-cam and new to aquarium fish, your "how to do is " absolutely brilliant. This will be a great hobby as I age. Keep up the great work Mark, Kind regards Ben .
Want to thank you for sharing your knowledge with us...i know yu've reslly spent a lot of time d and i doing these videos and i, for one, am. Extremely graceful
Great series Mark and very glad to see your channel grow over the last several years. Would love to see more on the zebra plecos and breeding Red Chili Rasboras!! Getting my Zebras in within the next couple of weeks.
Really nice to watch your videos - I love your enthusiasm, your approach, your advice and of course - the fish! I used to be a half professional breeder for some years, but I have not had tanks for five years now (I love aquariums but I do not love to move them). I always plan tanks in my head though, and now I have found one I will go for (but all in due time, it will not go fast). I added some breeding tanks in the plan... :D For hydrogen peroxide against cyano, it works great, but be careful if you have Ceratophyllum or Vallisneria in the tanks you are treating - those plants can melt away fast, they do not like hydrogen peroxide. Keep up the good work, I am inspired again!
I'm just starting out with my water babies.. googling so much and. watching hours and hours of videos to learn everything I possibly can. I must say that if all the channels I've watched, yours is the most thorough and I've learned SO much! How do you rinse the salt water from the brine shrimp without losing them all?
Great series. Been keeping fish for 30 years. Cold water, tropical and marine, but never got into breeding except the odd live breeder...but I am keen to give this a go. Will let you know how I go.
New subscriber here. Great to now follow a fantastic aquarium channel based within the UK, Especially South Wales! Fairly local (Swansea). Now I want to try my hand at breeding neon. Great content! Cheers.
Thanks for the series. I think it´s the best on this species on TH-cam! Really liking the peat substrate. All my tanks are blackwater. I bet those fry would be more active with a proper cover of Pistia/Salvinia?
Ive been using oak leaves and old pine needles to lower my ph. It seems to be working according to the tests. Im from florida and i used alot of pine needles in my aquariums before I moved.
Hi Mark, those guys are growing so quickly! Being as informative as it is, i hope that your channel grows even faster :) Best of luck with the Zebra Plecos :) I've always loved those guys but they are not available here in Trinidad; not yet anyways :(
Congrats for a very informative and well done 4-part video on neon tetra breeding Mark. I noticed that the fourth and last part came 30 days after the first part. Does it mean the neon fry were just a month old in the fourth part? Thank you and God bless. Stay safe:)
Great videos mark love the breeding series. Been very helpful, any chance of a video on breeding ember tetras? And emperor tetras again mark thanks for the videos and please keep the good work coming 😁 from your fellow Welsh aquarius 👍👍👍👍
Great inspirational videos. I've bred danios, barbs, corys and gudgeons but I assumed it would be a lot more difficult to breed tetras. Your videos show that it really isn't too different and I think it's something I want to try in future!
Hey Mark, thumbs up, absolutely fantastic tutorial on breeding and raising neons, followed your instructions to a T and have just started my free swimming fry on infusoria, man are these fry ever so small!! One question, when can light be safely introduced into the fry tank? Thanks mate!
Don't the oh spikes matter when moving fish from tank to tank? Would it be better to slowly increase ph once the eggs are laid to get them used to harder waters of the community tank?
Hi Mark I know this is an old video of yours. Is there a chance you can let me know what brand/make of organic compost you use for your breeding please? Thank you 😊
Maybe I missed it in #1, but you paired 2 Neons, but I didn't recall info on how to sex them and identify a pair to place together. Thanks for readdressing that here (a little)
The males are more torpedo shaped and the females are more rounded. If you condition your fish after a week or so you will see the females fill up with eggs. Then you will see the difference.
Just spawn my first neons! The fry are swimming around!! Your videos were very helpful and informative. Quick question how long does it take for them to get to full size?
Phew cos I didn't lol. My first stage is up on my channel and I've given you a shoutout and a link - STILL waiting for some of the peat to drop 3 days later lol but we'll get there. Black neons first, excellent dither fish in the betta sorority.
@@MARKSAQUATICS Thank you Mark. At what age do you start feeding live bbs to neon fry? Just a suggestion for future videos you should say how old the fry are and when you start feeding different foods as well as how long before changing or adding new food type to wean from old food source. Eg. Since the video series was in 4 parts it would have help with age of the fry to full comprehend when you feed the different foods. Like first week feed infusoria, 2nd week start to introduce walter worms. Stop infusoria by 3rd week and introduce live bbs. By end of 4th week fully on live bbs walter worms stopped. Hope you understand what I'm suggesting. Could you give me a shout out in your next breeding video? Thank you again for sharing your awesome videos.😍😍😍😍
I love this series, Mark. I've learned so much. Have you ever tried breeding Rummy Nose Tetras? Would they be similar to the neons? They are my absolute favorites.
Hello! I've just found your channel a couple of days ago,and all I can say "first class"! :) In this video you've said that you're from Wales! I would like to ask if you're selling any fish at all,or they are just for yourself!? :) I live near Wrexham, and I thought if you're selling any fish and you're not that far away from me,I could buy some of these nice fish from you...:) Cheers

Also, I'm having a bit of trouble breeding my 24karrot White Cloud Mountain Minnows. If possible, can you make a video for 24karrot White Cloud Mountain Minnow breeding? Thanks in advance!
I’ve had small plecos about 4 inches long eight adults neon Tetris before, it’s happened twice with me, so I stopped keeping them with plecos. One was just a regular Pleco, I don’t even know what they called them and the other was a rubber mouth, both were about 4 inches long when they did it. And there were algae wafers in the tank at both times.
Hi mark how old are the Fry's in this video? Thank you I successfully bred my neons my Fry's are free swimming 1week old thanks to your videos. Thank you sir :)
Awesome!! Thanks sir mark for sharing this with us by the way im planning to breed neon tetras too i also want to breed my rosy tetras it is the same process as the neons? Btw great series i subscribed
Love the videos lots of info and simple to understand I have a question ,have you ever breed Oscars I've always wanted to but haven't cause I've heard it's very difficult
Thank you. Oscar's are very easy to breed, once you have a fertile pair simply add a nice piece of slate on the bottom ,feed them well and they'll be away once settled in. Best kept on their own tho.😀👍

Hi mark I have a quick question that I hope you can answer... So I have done the whole set up and its been about a week now and all that I am getting it that the female is chasing the male around any idea what that means?
Ryno Duncan ok. Have you been feeding lots of live food pryer to putting them in the tank.
MARK'S AQUATICS I got them from the store and they went straight into the brewing tank
Ok. If you can ,put a divider in the tank and feed live food to them for a few days and keep them apart .then remove the divider.

Ryno Duncan you can use froze. 😀👍
Why are you keeping that tank plant free? Wouldn't guppy grass or something to hide in make the neons feel more secure, or is there a problem with adding plants now?
