Absolutely superb Glenn my friend, you've outdone yourself! :-D Huge congratulations on such a cracking image of the dark shark mate, impeccable! The whole video experience was just ace though, felt like I'd came along with you mate! Thanks for taking the time to record and share this outing, I really enjoyed it! Clear skies!
Hi Luke. I was super stoked with that image as I had tried to capture it before from home with no luck. You do need good dark skies for these targets. The Cloud camp was amazing mate and you should definitely try and come along in the future, I will definitely be going to as many as I can as it was such a great experience.
I'm guessing this is a rich mans hobby lol, great video, now you got me wanting things I never knew I needed. Aaaaargh thanks lol it staggers me what technology is now available to home hobbyists.
Hi and thanks for watching. Like all hobbies it can be a deep rabbit hole. But if you have a DSLR camera you can get into Astrophotography with just that and build slowly from there, its what I did
Absolutely brilliant. One of the Best sharks I have seen for a while, the star colours are gorgeous. The little galaxy you captured in there too looks so good.
Great video - Thanks for taking us with you on your astro camper trip. - Liked it very much! ...your night sky time lapses and Dark Shark nebula are awesome!! Clear skies
@@tullyfisher its kind of ideal. Just installed a mini lc to my rig so I can remote to it from inside the van. I used to go camping on my motorbike but was so limited to what gear I could take (Astro especially) so sold that and got the van.
@@AstroblokeI guess that was a very good decision with regard to AP! :) Can I ask one thing: How do you manage your astro gear power consumption? I shortly saw some connection at the camping site. So will this be mandatory when making trips or are you using an external/ separate power supply or the van battery as well? (Still thinking about buying a 500W Jackery or something for my setup ..at some point in the future.)
Awesome Video Glenn. Loved the timelapse and images with the big tree and the capture of the sun set. Looked like a good event. I would love to start going to future cloud camps my self. Amazing image of the Dark Shark. Fantastic job mate.
Thanks Ben. It was a great trip and experience and I highly recommend you come along to one if you can. The dark skies really helped make a difference. Clear skies mate
Wow, never thought you would get three clear nights from the look of the day time. Glad you all had a great star party. First time I have seen or heard of the Dark Shark - very cool. Hope you continue to have good luck with your Astro Van trips.
Thank you Richard. I was kind of weird, cloudy during the day but come nightfall it all just cleared to show this beautiful dark starry sky. I was very lucky. It’s a target I have been after for a while . It’s in Cepheus. Up and left a bit from the Iris Nebula
Great video & image Glenn I were spoilt by the weather when I went to my first star party in Hereford crystal clear nights & warm sunny days in March 2012. Glad you had a blast I remember watching Mick's live feed when you were all there.
Thank you mate. I was definitely spoilt weather wise. Maybe having the surname Clouder (no that is not a joke) lol is a blessing. Maybe one day we’ll meet up on one.
The only star party we're going to this year is at Kelling Heath at the autumn star party we may get to go to another one but can't be 100% right now due to lack of free days off work. Would be great to meet up again though.
Hey Glenn, I was watching your video at Cloud camp, great video and great image of the Dark Shark nebula, its first time I have seen it, thanks for sharing bud🙂🌠
Thanks Jason. Would be a good one to try from Alpha Scorpii 👍. All those cars and planes whizzing about probably oblivious to the beauty above them. Had a great time, looking forward to your new camera results, CS!
What a great trip! Amazing to get 3 nights of clear skies. Love the Dark Shark, but I think your timelapse work is also really good, I particulalrly like the blue tree timelapse, gorgeous.
Thank you so much for the kind comments. I love doing timelapses and so pleased you think they came out well. The blue tree o e with Orion constellation behind was a my favourite, bad battery planning cut it short unfortunately
Amazing image Glenn! I will probably have to wait a bit before I get to shoot that shark again. I will go mono on it this season. My OSC version is on my Telescopius account.
Thanks Joe. I am glad it felt like I took you along as that was my hope. Wish you could of been there with me. I’m really pleased with the image results too, clear skies man
Really enjoyed that Glenn. Lovely video and amazing pic. I’m def coming to next CC. Just need to get a smaller tent, I’d never get my gear in the car with the huge air beam tent we’ve got.
Hi Jim. Thank you mate and will be great to see you at a CC. It was great fun mate, like PAS but with tents. I am watching your star colour video, this region has lots of lovely stars for that. Some subs were out of focus so may see what I can do. Clear skies mate
Currently figuring out the scope I want. I want a visual scope to look with whilst I learn astro on a 200mm telephoto. Gonna get me a 130pds! Cheers mate. You convinced me
Nice one Dan. Yes that is the big question. I nearly took my EQ8 and CT10 because all the big targets are not visible here now. But decided to keep it simple as it was my first trip. Had a great experience and I am sure you will too, clear skies mate.
Great video Glenn, looked like you had a fantastic time! How lucky to get 3 clear nights in a row at Cloud camp! Awesome image of the Dark Shark, and beautiful shot of Orion! I’m going to have to get to a cloud camp some day! Great job mate👍 Clear skies
Thank you Simon. I was so lucky with the weather and well pleased with the image I got. You definitely need to get to a camp, you would love it. Hope to see you soon mate. Clear skies
You win just for the "You're going to need a bigger scope line", LOL But DAMN, that is a helluva photo on such a difficult target. Was out at a dark sky site and just before leaving decided to take a shot at it, only got 7 3 minute subs, just to see what I could get and a 50% moon was up, but it looks promising, so definitely next on my bucket list when I go out there on a moonless night.
Thank you Nick, appreciate your comments as always. Its a very tough target but OSC can capture it well as long as you are in a very dark site. So will depend on your sky conditions. When I tried this target from home it was a fail. The Bortle 6 skies just washed it out
I'd love to know what settings you chose for the timelapses and for how long you generally timelapse to achieve them? How many cameras did you have doing them? Also, how did you 'lightpaint' that tree? Those stars with the dark shark are pinpoint and I'm wondering what the small galaxy is in the field also just off the shark's back?
Thank you for watching. I use 2 cameras to take my timelapses. The day to night one was with a GO Pro10 in nightlapse mode, I also use my EOS R with various lenses and just set that manually. The go pro can be plugged into a battery bank allowing it to run all night if I wish. The dark shark came out grea but then we were at a really lovely dark sky location which helped lots. That galaxy is a spiral galaxy known as pgc67671. I didn't even know about it until I had edited this image and saw it myself for the first time. Nice bonus.
@@Astrobloke What exposure setting/shutter speed etc using the EOS R and time delay between shots? I like the timelapses as much as anything. Were they taken on a simple tripod or driven with the AZ GTi? Or both?
@@markwelsh9068 i cannot remember the exact settings but normally i set at Iso800 f2.8 then a 5 sec exp with 5 to 10 sec interval. Longer interval for faster moving stars this is all with my samyang 14mm. If using my 24-105mm F4 RF Lens I’ll push the ISO to 1600 or 3200. The EOS R is not noisy. Ny older 70D was not as good so lower ISO like 400 and say 10sec exp. From just a fixed tripod. The only timelapse do e on my AZ GTI was the last one of Orion sinking to the horizon
@@Astrobloke Cheers man. Appreciated. Are you still doing the video on all the software and connections etc? If you are, please remember to make it easy, yet detailed, for simpletons! 🙂
